Ah, that's what "mute" is for. I say if they're going to assault my eardrums with their crap, I'm not going to pay it a bit of attention. If they were considerate and interesting (far too many incredibly stupid commercials out there, and far too many ambiguous ones where you have no idea what they're advertising), I might actually consider buying their product, if it seemed to meet my needs. As it is, sometimes I decide NOT to buy a product based on their shoddy advertising.
Absolutely! Most people don't figure out what they want to do until they've been in college for a while. Isn't that what those useless gen-ed classes are for? First-year credits to go towards whatever you eventually choose? I know I changed majors three times and because of that am having to go to school longer, but it's worth it because I like the path I'm taking now. It wasn't my first choice and it wasn't what I would have picked in high school. But I'm glad I wasn't forced to decide when I was young and silly and more worried about my prom dress than how I was going to make my living for the next 50 years.
Is anyone else reminded of the scene in "2015" in Back to the Future 2? With all the advertisements very much like this? At this rate they may exist in 2015.
As for flying Deloreans, the verdict is still out.
I am also a grammar Nazi, but what many people have told me is that they get confused because when using proper nouns, the apostrophe is used to indicate possession (ie, Nancy's book or London's population.) I suppose I can see their point...
Hmm...another example of how America seems to be extraordinarily bad at looking to see how ideas worked in other countries before implementing them here. It seems such a simple concept, and yet...
Haha, good point!
I like this because it's kind of like they're admitting that nobody likes Vista and that they're still going to have people wanting XP, despite the fact that you can't find a new computer loaded with it anymore. People are willing to go out of their way to get XP versus Vista.
Hmm...I just Googled that Emerson guy. I just posted based on my observations, but if he's got the same idea maybe I'll look into his literature =) he probably knows more than I do.
Thanks for the lead!
The problem is with a lot of the women, if you ask me. I'm a woman in the IT field and I like hanging with the guys I work with, we can tell off-color jokes and go out to bars together, and we do that sometimes.
The problem is when women demand to be treated the same and then are oversensitive to the way men are just being themselves around her. In order to be treated the same as men, you'd have to understand them and think like them. Women are made differently--equally, but differently. And most women should not only be treated as such, but should REALIZE that. Most women do not really want to be treated the way men treat their peers of the same gender, they just don't seem to realize that men have a different 'code of honor'. Women seem to think that men are always respectful to one another and have this very idealized and very wrong idea of what male/male relationships are like, and I'm guessing it's because men act differently around them. As a result, they get offended by the things men say and do when they're just doing what she requested.
Yes, wordy, I'm sorry--I'm a woman!;) but the point is, most women need to be treated a bit differently in order for them to feel comfortable, they just don't realize it. I feel fortunate that, for the most part, I am better friends with men than women, and I understand the way they think and act. I can enjoy being around 'the guys'. (My boyfriend feels fortunate too, LOL.) But I am an exception, not the rule.

Personally, as far-fetched as it is, I'm kind of hoping he wins. I'd like to be able to replace my own battery. Less downtime, etc...maybe I'm just a control freak?
That kind of design worked with the iPod because most people don't leave their iPod on 24/7, nor do they rely on it in an emergency. And they certainly aren't going to be left in a potentially dangerous/inconvenient situation if they have to be without an iPod for a week or however long it takes to send it in.
(disclaimer: I don't actually have or want an iPhone, I'm just making general statements. I do have an iPod and I did replace the battery myself, thanks to the help of the friendly folks at http://ipodjuice.com/. I just think it would be better if it were user-replaceable.)
Back in my day, we had REAL fuzzy dice, not these fancy fake moving pictures you kids have these days.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought "ounces" when I first read that.
I need another cup of coffee.
Hi, Bill!
But they still won't be allowed to chew it in class.
Mod parent "funny", this is the most hilarious post I've read all week!
Except that my brain exploded from the horrendous spelling and grammar.

I suppose I am missing something. What's the point of it being open source if people can't use it?
...wow. We are such nerds. :D

Why thank you! ;)
...Sort of. But "feminine" and "ditzy" are not synonymous. That book seems more suited for the ditzes.
It makes me so glad I'm not cool :)
Don't you mean one bolt of lightning? :)

Mod parent up, this hits the nail on the head.
Yeah. I know. It was a reference to the spoken line in the movie. Have you ever seen it?
yes, and they're not going to white-collar resort prison. No, no, no. They're going to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison! :D
