FALSE. They censor those who have right-wing viewpoints.
Nonsense. I'm frequently attacked by the "right" on Reddit.
No one censors them.
...now right-wingers do have to deal with Redditors responding to them by brandishing pesky 'facts' which they often interpret as "attacks" but the fact that they can rarely rebut the facts proves they're not "attacks."
Name calling and whining over what someone else does with their platform. Indeed, that is what snowflakes do. I love how conservatives demand how other people must act and speak while calling liberals authoritarians for demanding that all people are created equal and must be treated so. Cry harder, it's working, you're winning!
It's also ridiculous when "conservatives" complain about what private corporations like Reddit choose to do with their own platform.
Hey "conservative" snowflakes - That's how capitalism is supposed to work.
It's a computer that you cannot copy a file to? Seriously? I cannot conceive of how that could work.
An iPhone "computer" of course has a file system - But you can't easily mount it. It's similar to early MP3 players of 15-20 years ago where you could only use proprietary software to copy files on and off them.
Can't you just copy *.mp3 and *.ogg onto it? The filesystem mounts as a USB device, doesn't it?
On Android, yes. The file system just mounts and you drag your stuff over. That's what's so nice about Android.
...but on an iPhone? No. The only way to synch local content on and off an iPhone is via iTunes. It's a messy, clumsy procedure on a piece of bloatware, but if you persevere, it can be done.
Not in my wife's case, Anonymous Coward. She's been trying for years, but there are very few roles at her level in our city, and moving cities isn't an option right now.
What will replace the local iPhone synchronization features if iTunes dies?
Exactly. If I want to copy a several-dozen.MP3s from our PC into a playlist on my wife's phone, how do I do that if iTunes is gone?
...and please don't say "you'll be upload them to the cloud." I shouldn't need to eat up bandwidth and route traffic between Vancouver and Cupertino simply to copy data between two devices 10 inches apart.
Obviously this will be directly connected to the Intel Management Engine just like current Intel wired network cards so it can do whatever it wants without any OS control?
Let's hope so.
Imagine if you laptop was stolen and you could turn it on via an encrypted SMS and then have it ping its lat / long back to you.
Or imagine if you could remotely brick it or wipe the thief's drive.
Imagine as a remote IT tech being able interact wirelessly and directly with a PC, even if it's at a blue screen.
If you use Facebook on mobile (not the app, just the website), you will get advertisements on pretty much any product you have viewed on Amazon or done a google search for.
Well sure.
...but what I'm talking about is Facebook mining the data it knows about who I am, what I like, and where I am to serve up *new* content they think I might be interested in. They fail terribly at this.
Here's why I remain skeptical about conspiracies around this:
I've been an active Facebook user since 2010. I probably post 2 or 3 times per day. Facebook knows where I live, what I like, how old I am, who my friends are, what my politics are, what TV shows and movies I like, where I've travelled, what airlines I fly... On and on.
I don't run ad blockers.
Nevertheless, in eight years, other than the odd T-Shirt company, Facebook has never once served up an ad for something I'm interested in. Never. Once. They have no clue. All they do is serve up ads for things I've already searched elsewhere, like Timberland shoes or random nonsense they think a 50-year-old male might be interested in.
My Android phone knows everywhere I go. Again, nothing I'm interested in. Nothing.
Ditto Twitter.
I'm not going to stress about this until one day I truly have a Keanu "whoa" moment. And that hasn't happened yet...
It seems that that challenge always comes down to batteries. I have a nearly-four-year-old Samsung Galaxy S5 that still works fine. The camera is great and I see no reason to upgrade for now. Part of the reason that's the case is the battery is user replaceable. I just pop off the back and pop in a new battery. I'm probably on battery #3 now. It's also got a microSD slot, so I know I'm never going to run out of storage.
I think dying batteries is likely what drives a lot of upgrades.
YouTube is superior for video-sharing for three reasons -
1) You don't need to have a YouTube account to watch videos. I can send my (77-year-old) dad a YouTube link and he can just watch it. While this is possible with Facebook, it's a pain and you're constantly told to sign up.
2) Facebook sticks ads in the middle of videos. I suppose YouTube could do this sooner or later, but right now they don't.
3) Facebook search is hot garbage. With YouTube I can pretty much find whatever I'm looking for fairly easily.
One day I need someone to explain to me what Viemo is for, though.
Google Flights Will Now Predict Airline Delays -- Before the Airlines Do
Headline is misleading. Google doesn't know 'before the airlines do.'
What Google will be doing is telling you before the airlines do.
The airlines by and large know which flights are going to be delayed, why, and by how much. They don't need Google magic for this. They just don't always choose to tell you (or their frontline staff), because reasons.
Google is going to tell you anyway, even if the airlines haven't.
You literally have to choose who to believe in every case where you are not present to directly witness events.
No you don't. When Trump says the Access Hollywood tape is fake you have your own ears to prove otherwise. When Trump says millions attended the inauguration you have your own eyes looking at photos to prove otherwise. When Conway talks about the Bowling Green massacre you have hundreds of reputable news agencies reporting otherwise. You don't have to have been in Bowling Green to know the facts.
You have no right to privacy of your license plate
Ever been stopped a red light with a police car behind you? Glanced in your rearview mirror and seen him typing into his computer? That's the cop running your plate. Happens all the time.

Hey "conservative" snowflakes - That's how capitalism is supposed to work.
Asshole Reddit mods catering to the snowflakes. Jumping on the anti gun bandwagon.
Meh, Reddit is a private company. If you don't like their rules go make your own pro-gun Reddit. That's how it works.

Its very easy to switch careers nowadays.
Not in my wife's case, Anonymous Coward. She's been trying for years, but there are very few roles at her level in our city, and moving cities isn't an option right now.
Here's an idea don't use an employer supplied phone for personal use.
Most people, including my wife, don't want to carry around two phones.
...and if your employer is going to pick up the tab, why not?
Realize the "walled garden" thing didn't work out? Purchase something other than an iPhone.
I have an Android Samsung Galaxy S5 - But my wife's iPhone is employer-supplied, so she can't easily switch.
Buy your wife a phone not made by Apple as a gift.

Why do you hate free market capitalism? If you prefer, you can always write, record, and produce your own music to listen to. No one is stopping you.
With iTunes gone, how do you get your own-produced music from your PC onto your iPhone?
Like this storm I never heard about.
Do you live under a rock, Anoymous Coward? This storm was all over the news - CNN, ABC, CBS, CBC, BBC, NYT, WaPo - Everywhere. It was a huge deal.
Obviously this will be directly connected to the Intel Management Engine just like current Intel wired network cards so it can do whatever it wants without any OS control?

I wouldn't worry about robotic overlords. Not if their conquest depends on Bluetooth.
The Bluetooth is there because humans occasionally put packages on the wrong truck.
Robots never would, so robots wouldn't have / need the Beepy Bluetooth gadget.

(For now), Bing still has a 'view source image' option.
Seems to work fine.
Youtube does stick ads in videos all the time.
Huh.
I never see ads in the middle of YouTube videos, Anonymous Coward.
At the beginning? For sure - But never in the middle. Maybe it's a regional thing. (I'm in Canada, eh?)

I just finished rewatching "Serenity" while working today!
I want your job.

But there's nothing preventing someone from putting a dozen other, different ones, on their car as long as the legit one is displayed (free speech!).
Nothing other than the law that says you can only have one license plate on the back of your car, you mean?
