to develop operating systems that are impervious to viruses, trojans, worms and rootkits & etc... probably could not be done to 100% certainty but it can be implemented so the bad software is the rare exception to the rule rather than wide spread chronic infections like you see with that software from Redmond...
that would more than likely put Microsoft in to a niche corner and out of the desktop operating system & office software suite business...

microsoft has had a monopoly on computer viruses since they released windows version 1.0, not that i would want that monopoly to be broken up because then avoiding viruses would be much more difficult if there was viruses on all OSs like they are on windows
if the human race can not make life great on this planet then living in space where being even more efficient and much more benevolent is required to survive will never succeed.
humans are just inherently too stupid and greedy to survive for generations in some space ship or artificial planetoid type thing considering the track record we've made here on earth.

me too, that why i run IceWM with rox-filer drawing the desktop icons and wallpaper = basic and lightweight, but still quite usable
