The thing about marriage is that it is a partnership. There will be times when your interests are mutual, some times when the interests of one don't interfere with those of the other, and some times when you have conflicts. It's all in how you resolve the last bunch.

When I had to do interviews, USEnet was one of the things I looked at in order to find out about potential employees. Things like getting in flame wars frequently showed potentially disruptive behaviour. Posting to technical groups (usually) showed a tendancy to be helpful, and illustrated the technical knowledge of the applicant as well.

This isn't new folks - wll okay, it's MyFace or SpaceBook or /digg and not DejaNews or AltaVista, but it's still the "same old".

While this may yet be a bad thing for the Americans - depending on what their elected officials actually do commit as law - it could open up opportunity in other countries. Rather than the US having the advantage that it does now with the open internet and the mass of wealth and technology, this could help shift the scales so that other nations have a more competitive footing.

I think your definition of culture might need some expanding - check out last month's SciAm about orang culture. Their definition - roughly the ability to pass knowledge to the next generation - fits better, and if you were so inclined you may be able to fit that to your original ants.
