I know several teachers in Canada that have been told the same thing, although I'm not sure whether or not it was an official prohibition. Between things like this, the dumbing down of math (no calculus in high school, or at least it was proposed), and all the non-competitive grading, these students are in for a large shock. The last studies I read showed that trying to build students self esteem this way actually had the opposite effect in the long term.
It's dangerous to tear down someone who is vastly smarter than you, especially when they're right about something. The danger of doing it may temper some of the sillier political games.
Seconded. There's a few artists on there that are were good enough to make me stop what I was doing and listen... soemthing quite rare these days. I remember Ruth Theodore being one of the more unusual ones.
It's quite sad that you need to with most (all?) versions of Windows. This should be the default state, especially with viruses coming right from the factories in digital picture frames, etc.
Here in Canada it gets quite cold, yet we tend to use air conditioning more than 11 days a year. But yeah, perhaps they should indicate how many AC days would be required without the technology.
The really good part of democratic govenments is that you can actually change the rules to improve them. The really bad part is that it's mostly just a theory, and rules only get added, not fixed.
While everything you say is true, many people would get great value from integration into an IDE that's a bit more automated. Don't forget those forced to use Windows... they deserve your pity.
For those with a compatible device, RockBox has this feature (volume adjust between tracks) with a couple of nice variations like not adjusting the volume within an album. I seem to remember that some MP3 tag information is required for it to work though.
You don't even need to pay anywhere near that much. Blocking ambient sound ain't rocket science, and the headphones that block the noise physically are also quite comfortable. I like these ones (Canadian site). They have more expensive ones as well, but I actually use these in my wood shop, and they work quite well.
I would think the people who actively buy a Linux version would also be more discerning customers, more likely to return it if it wasn't exactly what they wanted.
There's not fery much new detailother than stating that it's about "TCP state table manipulation". I'd guess they're keeping details to themselves until a fix can be found. My guess is that others will discover it just based on the broad area described.

This is SlashDot. It's generally not a major concern.

It`s sad, but I think this should probably be modded informative rather than funny.
That's right. Won't someone think of the lawyers.
You can have the oil, but only if you take Celine Dion and Ben Mulroney as well.

If they're a non-profit entity, there are a different set of rules that must be obeyed.

Oh deer ... we never thought of that.
Like most companies, IBM is only 'not evil' when it's extremely convenient, or there's some marketing value to be had.
I'm not sure .... are you a multi-billion dollar corporation with an image problem?

If you're going to make spelling mistakes, at least have some fun with them. Instead of 'a registerd church', try 'a registurd church'.
Just tryin' to help out.
So ... exactly how many is a Brazilian? I hope they have an automated install process.

Sure, that's that they'd expect you to think.

Waterboarding and rope burn.

Invisibility will help. What do you think the eye of the storm is for ... duh.
Wow ... that's some serious outsourcing
