There could also be, depending on the content injected, a possibility of cross site scripting. I'm not saying I know how it would be done, but who then is liable for any damages done?
I think SUN has done all they can do as far as open sourcing Java. From what I understand, they couldn't open source every component because some were proprietary and licensed for use in the SUN JVM. A couple of examples were the 2D/image libraries that were actually owned by Kodak, and sound libraries or codec libraries owned by...? uh, can't remember.
Anyway, what the OpenJDK project is seeking to do is fill in all these gaps left by the removal of the proprietary components and integrate the sum into a simple package. There should be plenty of options out there, like for example Cairo for 2D, OpenGL for 3D, etc...
Please correct any mistakes I've stated.
Even if that isn't true, I believe that all office live offered initial was basically a place to store and share Office documents. There was no functionality to actually create or edit Office documents.
This was the first thing that popped into my head too!!! Glad to see that I'm not the only one to be annoyed by experts-exchange.com.
However, an even better idea is to have a little trash can next to the link allowing you to delete EE completely of the internet. But this will do for now;-)
If you do have GPS on your phone you'll find that it probably IS "useful if you're truly lost". For those that don't have GPS and until they can get the triangulation between towers to work better you might be right that it's just a toy. However, it will certain save some time bringing up a map of your general vicinity.
See your location on the map, with or without GPS. Save time and tedious keystrokes finding where you are, what's around you, and how to get there.
If you have a GPS-enabled device, this blue dot corresponds to your GPS location. At times, or if you do not have a GPS-enabled phone you might see the blue dot surrounded by a light blue circle (as shown on the right) to indicate uncertainty about your location.
I think that we have to differentiate between the kinds of data that we're talking about Facebook controlling here. Hopefully, we're not talking about credit card info, social security numbers, etc, but more likely how many times your "Pinky the pig" widget has been feed that day, by whom and how much he now weighs. Hopefully, none of these widgets/apps will be collecting sensitive personal information, and even though widgets/apps using storage will perhaps have to be approved by Facebook, hopefully no one is stupid enough to entrust these disparate widget/app developers with their data in the first place.
An additional threat is really to the widget/app developers who can now have "their" data taken away at any time, perhaps for any reason by Facebook. Perhaps Facebook will want to give exclusive and preferential privilege to a particular widget/app developer because of some behind-the-scenes deal and pretty much wipe the completion out at the flick of a switch. They could pick up a widget from where a "discontinued service left off" and the end user wouldn't even notice.
BTW, I don't have a myspace, facebook, etc account, and only imagining what might/could happen.
Although still in it's infancy, JavaFX kinda sounds interesting. I've played around with it a little bit, and it's definitely fun. There are several examples out there showing you how it's done and they get the point across pretty well. It's supposed to be an alternative to Flash and Silverlight and although showing promise, it definitely falls short in it's multimedia capabilities(sound and video). Multimedia would perhaps be the killer feature to add to Java 7. Anyway, they're supposedly optimizing Java 7 to handle JavaFX and JavaFX Script and this is perhaps one of the features that "might" encourage people to upgrade.
what you're describing sounds a lot like what they wanted to do with XUL Runner. Each mozilla app could be packaged as a plugin for XUL Runner. So, you would have XUL Runner installed and then you could just download and install the firefox plugin, the thunderbird plugin, the sunbird plugin, etc... They had scheduled this for firefox 3, but it looks like it's not going to happen at least for now.

Getting off topic a little, but I'm surprised that during all the recent talk of Flash, Silverlight and JavaFX, no one brought up XUL or WebKit as an alternative to a rich application framework(don't know what else to call them...). Neither of these is that ready to compete (mainly because of multimedia issues) with flash and silverlight, but they're no less ready than JavaFX at the least.
We examined all internet related folders and files before October 19, 2004, during October 19, 2004 and after October 19, 2004. Most significantly, we noted freeze.com, screensaver.com, eharmony.com and zedo.com were being accessed regularly.
before, during and after. This would indicate that this type of behavior happened before and after she was there. Not sure how it follows that she was responsible for all of the activity.

We found no evidence of where this kind of surfing was exercised on October 19, 2004.

what if you're using a 3rd party library that has references to the dtd, schema or whatever? you don't really want to go through and change all of them.
what if XML files, for instance, are being exchanged between your application and others and they are including a dtd that doesn't reside within your domain?
I myself am suffering from hearing lose after not realizing that i could adjust the volume in my car for about 9 months now. Sure Hondas are nice cars, but you think they would make this little fact a little more known. They should also tell you that you don't have to push the right pedal down all the way when you want to make the car move. I've gotten in several accidents and have many tickets already. I'm currently looking for some people to start a class action lawsuit against this company putting out products that could and have negatively affected me. If anyone is interesting in joining in, message me.
google in a way, might already have this. I don't know, but google base, with a "favourites" template could provide this functionality quite easily, do you think? I've read a little about turning your base entries into rss or atom, and there will be, if there isn't already some type of base web api's to add, edit and delete content.
it may already be there in the sense that it is quite possible that google base can already do this (i think). Perhaps all they need to do is add a "favourites" template in base's configuration page.
LOS ANGELES - The Recording Industry Association of America announced Tuesday that it will be taking legal action against anyone discovered telling friends, acquaintances, or associates about new songs, artists, or albums. "We are merely exercising our right to defend our intellectual properties from unauthorized peer-to-peer notification of the existence of copyrighted material," a press release signed by RIAA anti-piracy director Brad Buckles read. "We will aggressively prosecute those individuals who attempt to pirate our property by generating 'buzz' about any proprietary music, movies, or software, or enjoy same in the company of anyone other than themselves." RIAA attorneys said they were also looking into the legality of word-of-mouth "favorites-sharing" sites, such as coffee shops, universities, and living rooms.

Since sony sees nothing wrong with installing a rootkit while simply playing a music "CD", why would they not resort to the same thing when packaging software along with their hardware products? So, has anyone investigated whether these rootkits come preinstalled on VAIOs or come bundled inside the crap software that sony makes you install on your computer to upload music to Walkman? This would surely damage what's left of their image.
Anyone?
Yep, I remember hearing about such a suite about 2 years ago. Back then it was of course speculated to be a subscription based office suite, but the general idea was there.
Anyone else remember much about this?
Sorry to sound like an old man, but I just don't get the point of music on your cell phone. I'm not trying to be a troll, but I really just don't get it. I know that it would be better to just have one single device to do all (phone, camera, music, etc...), but with the limitations of memory, battery, portability (as in moving to the PC) I personally wouldn't want this all-in-one wonder. Can someone please explain this to this old man?
There could also be, depending on the content injected, a possibility of cross site scripting. I'm not saying I know how it would be done, but who then is liable for any damages done?
Someone's already thought and implemented this:
Web Tripwires
But you're right, perhaps websites should start providing something of this nature.

On a related note, amazon adds permanent storage functionality to EC2:
http://aws.typepad.com/aws/2008/04/block-to-the-fu.html
It's one thing to reject code. It's another to know whether the code is protected by a patent.
Even if that isn't true, I believe that all office live offered initial was basically a place to store and share Office documents. There was no functionality to actually create or edit Office documents.
Wouldn't it be better if he drafts it prior to assembly? That way he would have more time and hopefully it will be more thought out.
This was the first thing that popped into my head too!!! Glad to see that I'm not the only one to be annoyed by experts-exchange.com.

That article was lame and not very informative. Better link: http://www.google.com/mobile/gmm/mylocation/index.html
I don't think that Pidgin can render HTML, or least do it yet. Although why you would really want to do this is lost to me.

Meh, the most fun I ever had was in the back seat.
Have you ever had a 3 way in the back seat? Not as fun as it sounds. Especially when you have a crappy driver.

Btw, JavaFX was previously known as F3 (Form Follows Function?) for those that may be looking up more details and examples of it.

how about "onelight"? simple and not confusing like so many other linux app names.

Or maybe to distribute copies of GBrowser, GOffice and GOS products that we all know are being released later this month.
