    If images are used more often, spammers will just start hashing pictures and doing the same with pornographic sites and the current captcha breaking technique of having them identify the object. You compare the hash of the image from the 'gmail' or 'hotmail' account, look it up in your database, and post the lemmings response.

    Then you just modify one random pixel in the image each time you display it and that's their hash database fucked.

    PS3 Linux has slow video because Sony blocks access to 2D and 3D acceleration on the Nvidia chipset. This project uses 3D shaders to accelerate video decoding. So I'm struggling to see how using advanced 3D functionality that PS3 Linux doesn't have to replace basic 2D functionality that PS3 Linux doesn't have is going to help.

    Well Microsoft forgot to tell Checkpoint to change Zone Alarm. Loaded the Security patch this morning and after reboot I had no Internet Access. Figured out the problem by checking the firewall logs. Shutting off Zone Alarm and switching to Microsoft's firewall sorted this issue immediately. The Zone Alarm website seems to indicate that this problem only occurs with Windows XP and that Vista is not affected. There will be a lot of people who will not have a clue what has happened.

    Ha ha, you use Zone Alarm.

    Yeah, both those drivers are written by Nvidia. So, if the drivers were identified as the cause then go bug Nvidia.

    The "open source" nv driver is deliberately obfuscated by Nvidia, so don't expect anyone else to fix the fucking thing.

    It might seem like a big job, but there's huge ranges of reserved addresses you can skip. Let us know how you get on.

    If linux was faster on this cluster they would be listing it on the top 500 with linux not windows HPC. Also one of the most important things to look at is how efficient the cluster is, this one had 77.7% application efficiency on 9,472 cores which is very impressive. Windows HPC deployed and was testing linpack on over 1000 machines in less then four hours, I would like to see rocks do that. At least try and build up an innocuous looking comment history before you do this shit. Frankly, the complete lack of effort on your part is just an insult to the people you're trying to troll. I could cut & paste a single ASCII character from Penis Bird and it would be a better troll than you are.

    A Cisco router may be cheap, comparatively speaking, but an audited and verified version of Linux/FreeBSD running on a commodity P.C. with tested hardware would be a lot more trustworthy. I was going to argue with your assertion that a commodity PC (probably made in China) is necessarily more trustworthy. But then I noticed that you started the sentence by describing Cisco routers as cheap, and there just didn't seem much point in challenging the accuracy of the rest of it.

    The problem with this is that I use a 2ndary DNS server, 4.2.2.2, as a test to see if the Internet is "up". Yeah, so does everybody else. Which is why, so I'm told, they occasionally change the name of the server to something like "please-do-not-steal-service.verizon.net". At least they have a sense of humour about it.

    Why shouldn't all decoding be moved out to the speakers? Just send them binary data and let the analog rendering be done as far from the noisy elements of the computer as possible. Why bother with decoding at all? Just send a digital signal to plain old analogue speakers.

    It's easy to simulate. Just login to a remote system via VNC/RDP and then run Wireshark on it. Remove any filters that Wireshark might automatically add to save you from yourself. You can also recreate this with SSH and tcpdump.

    I would make sure that it's not a very important remote system though.

    It's cleaner and probably quicker. It may be less prone to quirkiness under VMware, but it's definitely quicker under Wine. The speed of 2D graphics and I/O has always been pretty damn good under Wine.

    I am also wondering what if any compatibility problems Photoshop in Wine would have with pressure sensitivity with, for instance, Wacom tablets. This is an area that has received a lot of work recently, and lots of people are using Wacom tablets with no issues.
