can the cia train squirrels? i have one trying to claw its way into my house. i need to know if it is getting paid by the cia or the electric company. sssshh. here he comes.
don't most unix admins keep eyes open on ports, connections, user information, etc...? not scared yet. taking advantage of visibility tools and keeping up with what tools are available should be a skill owned by every administrator.
it examines tools to probe known issues of unpatched daemons with known exploits. sorry, i'm still not scared. if an administrator does not keep a system up to date throw them out the door, run over them twice, THEN tell them they are fired.
that being said, i'll agree, the book is very good. it details modern tools and how to use them. some of the tools let the administrator get ahead of potential 0 day exploits and weed out poorly written code. it gets my vote for the top 10 must read books for network/system administrators and at least top 5 for security engineers.
microsoft hopes that integrating a popular voip plugin with office will add more users to the group that say things like, "we need to have an exchange server?".
having to sign up for online accounts so you can "register" the game before playing it, bullshit. having to convert currency into proprietary nonrefundable "points" to lock someone in, bullshit. the game distribution/investment industry makes billions of dollars a year. they do not need to squeeze every last penny out of every last customer to profit. fuck them. they are complete and total piles of shit. needless to say, i USED to buy games. the only time i'll put a game cd/dvd into my computer is if someone has and idea on how to crack it. it goes on the machine, gets cracked, uploaded, and removed. that being said, i HAVE been known to buy copies of games that have been released to the foss community as a thank you. maybe they will learn. sony, stream, microcrap, @tari, will never see a dime from my wallet.

people need to tell their reps that it was a mistake to allow media companies into the isp market. they should be broken apart. no more sony+anyisp or warnerbrothers+anyisp. imho, the best time to call your congress_dumbass is the year before the election and once a month until the polls close.
Although [flash memory is] technically a type of EEPROM, the term "EEPROM" is generally used to refer specifically to non-flash EEPROM which is erasable in small blocks, typically bytes. Because erase cycles are slow, the large block sizes used in flash memory erasing give it a significant speed advantage over old-style EEPROM when writing large amounts of data.
oh your right. i forgot about eeproms emulated using flash which i guess is what they all are now. back in the day eeproms could only be flashed between 10 and 100 times.
Because in Texas religious belief is part of the "social government" and economy. People that go to church are not just "church goers", they are members of a church with all of its hierarchy included in their socioeconomic lives. The church member's status in the church is related to the respect and job opportunities they are given by other members. People not of the church have no predetermined respect for them. In order to gather respect, and underlings, people have to be made into members. This is perpetuated like a pyramid scheme. That isn't to say there isn't a benefit to this. Once a person becomes a member they are granted certain opportunities, job, job status (manager vs. grunt), etc... depending on where they fall in the hierarchy of the church. For example, a Deacon in a church is not likely to be working fast food. Children taught things like evolution, free thinking, black/gray/white vs. black/white are not as easily made into members.
that would be very cool! i was thinking more of a multimedia function for it. ie. plug it into one of the hdmi ports on my tv. set it up with a static ip address, or dhcp reservation. once configured i'd put the usb wireless nic on it and it would be physically invisible and accessible from any one of my other machines. streaming audio/video to an mplayer instance on it would be trivial.
Will that be before signing up for an online account or after the online registration? I'm assuming it can't be done until you've purchased your popcorn, soda, and candy.

in addition to MacTenchi's comment.. out of order fragments will get dropped by any good router or ips so you can't go that way and duplicate fragments are discarded by every decent firewall. now udp packets echo'd from client to random client until they need to be re-assembled is another story. the greater the ratio of client to packets you have the greater the difficulty for someone to re assemble it.
huh? it was a story about a boy who gave people rides on his totally awesome horsey. oh. and it had puppets like star wars. oh. and it even had an ASTRO NAUGHT!

EEPROM can be reflashed
Only a limited number of times. :(
Why cant they just do this in Texas

or better, a usb nic bridged onto the board. it might make it a little think but...
i don't see anything that looks like network chips on the board. it would be nice though wouldn't it?
eyeball-injected DRM solution
I'd wait until the second patch is out before seeing it if they are going to put you through all of that.
