I looks like this thread is the whole point of their project. Find a way to make solaris as usable and attractive as Linux. Folks on the MyNix is better than YurNix trip need not apply. I would like to see an OpenSolaris project feel like Linux and a Linux distro feel like Solaris. This way someone proficient in one can comfortable use the other. Not only would it make some of our lives easier it would improve the quality of both by aligning them towards the same standards.

It came out just in time to save me from Windows hell.
The irony is Vista comes with almost all new hardware. Well, at least in the consumer market. Speaking of which. Last month, Microsoft passed 40 million sales of Vista, but most of those appear to be to consumers rather than businesses, which have been slow to upgrade. It would explain the number of people "purchasing" vista. As usual they slop all of the mandatory OS that comes with new machines in just as if someone asked for it.
So true. You would get a lot more time than the thief.
FTA: She was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Harold Kahn to the 44 days she had already served in county jail and three years' probation.
It disgusts me when a thief's punishment is giving money to the government, probation fee's. It is specially disgusting when the victim never recovers anything but the probation office collects every week.
No offense but, Insightful? Please! What software bundled with ANY version of Windows does "hardware defects checking"? OMFG! Linux could have every driver, DSDT, filesystem, protocol, api, howto, and built in ball warmers designed specially small just for CEO's! Dell still would talk this BS before admitting they were doing it to save money.
Good point. I remember when certain unnamed people, that grow'd up on what is now True64, used to refer to Linux as "a unix emulator" Now, I couldn't imaging someone not having at least one Linux box on the network.
No. He is making a very significant point. "There's lots of support for Windows, but Windows itself actually supports very little." Everybody knows that unless Microsoft sees a self serving point to support something they don't.
Fascinating information. I'm currious. I just bought a new laptop. Top of the line stuff, dual core processor 7900GS 2G of ram... On my old laptop (turion 1G ram X700) I played games like total war and oblivion using wine. The settings were not max'd but I'd do 1024x762 oblivion no AA below average distance. After I got the new laptop I thought wtf I'll let it boot the winderz and see how oblivion runs. I couln't even play with settings lower than my little laptop. It would stutter every time I got next to a flame, whenever it had to load criterz it would come to a crawl. Now the question. Do you think the OS has something to do with it?
OK. Then here you go. The disease is people like bushwaker. People that go to fiction class every Sunday, hate people that go to different fiction classes on different days, and are so ignorant even a science fiction writer could come up with better solution to clean up their stupid mistakes. Unfortunately the bushwakers make up 37% of the US population and almost all of them vote. Maybe a "insert genre here" writer could come up with a solution to get the other 60% to the polls. afaict THAT is the solution.
too many gamers these days cry when you tax them like that. there all slamming it into god mode. i'm not a fan of the "2 shells" 20 imps maps but making it scary enough to fear for your life is an id trademark thanks to doom. imho doom3 was right on the mark.
If I'm not mistaken, the Art of War deals pretty specifically with choosing one's sides/opponents carefully.
I think this might be the key. They don't know which side to take so they are throwing out BS until one looks like a winner. MegaCrap isn't known for being the first on the block on anything but stealing other peoples stuff.
Definitely wrong. I have more friends working for companies that make money using open source software while working on their own proprietary projects. I don't dislike software that requires me to pay for it unless it has bugs in it. A perfect example would be the two new windows users in our shop. They picked up nice laptops with the latest and greatest microsoft software. DHCP didn't work. They couldn't see the workgroup. They couldn't install the AV provided by the shop because of some weird permission issues. They couldn't share files with other co-workers, even those with microsoft software. Needless to say, ~$1,000 of software was removed from two laptops and replaced with open source software.
The only reason people, like the article's author, think in the terms they do is because they are, too often, not capable of using something different.
Good answer. Someone asked me if they should host their own site or use SalesForce. I told them neither. Use Google to host their sight. Then they can take advantage of the tools Google offers. Someone on a budget can go a long way using the Google.
we'd have to rely on better processor design. Not to mention we'd have to rely on better software design. The way Moores law effects software, by allowing it to bloat, is the anti technology.
I don't think there is anything slippery about it. The people who buy media share it via computers. Computers are connected to other computers. Computers and the lines connecting to the computers are connected to the power grid. The power grid is used by the companies that sell media. The media companies give money to the power company. The money that is given to the power company allows the power company the ability to make power available to the people that own the computers and the lines that connect them. Therefore, the media companies are liable for making media available.
And it's stainless steel. You can chop your coke on it and not have to worry about snorting rust!

But Windows-Key u r doesn't reboot anymore, which is used much more frequently.

And Quake2 STILL stutters every three seconds.

Thats the rumor. Windows IS more bloated so... btw. Did they finally put resource sharing it in?
or should Microsoft stick to its knitting while applications take advantage of (possibly) more resources?

You can always use a computer fax application to send a fax to that telephone number every 3 seconds.

I don't know of any game that runs under vista. I thought everybody was still un grading to XP. Not that Vista is an up to anything.
