  1. Re:Why don't they sell songs at $200 a pop? on RIAA Foiled By "Innocent Infringement" Defense · · Score: 2, Informative

A penalty is fine, but a 2000% penalty? The percentages aren't that high on anything else...

It gets worse, it's actually a 20,000% penalty.

    Original value = 100% ($.99/song) or ~$1.00
    200% = 2 * 100% = ~$2.00
    ~$20.00 = 2,000%
    ~$200.00 = 20,000%

Can a band sustain itself without a record label, while still releasing music in an album format digitally?

Nine Inch Nails is sans label and is doing quite well, Trent Reznor does seem to be missing some of the polish on The Slip (first non-label non-instrumental album) that he had on Year Zero (last label backed production), but it was a free album, Ghosts I-IV (instrumental non-label album) was an interesting experiment.

I think its safe to say its not just my personal observations, as most religions will have some difficulty if life is found elsewhere then their 'blessed' earth.

They'll just rewrite their sacred texts again, and in 2 generations no one will be the wiser. They'll add an 's' to each instance of 'Earth' and 'earth' in Genesis and explain it as all celestial bodies and say it was some new translation. The sheeple with lap it up.

Or what would happen if the heart enlarged and crushed itself against the ribcage because it got too big?

Cardiac Hypertrophy is a serious issue, and two of the alleged causes are stress and high blood pressure. It really doesn't get big enough to crush itself against the ribcage, but it becomes so large that the muscles that cause the contraction of the ventricles aren't able to work as efficiently, which leads to less blood volume movement, which leads to fluid build up in the system (edema) which ultimately leads to Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), not a pretty way to go.
