And you're probably one of those people that are always claiming that "Corporations have only one responsibility - to maximize profit." You can't say that a company only needs to make money, and then turn around and bash a company for their 'abusive' labor practices.
It doesn't matter if it's still usable. What matters here is that doing something as simple as listening to music has been shown to decrease the network performance of a computer. Completely unacceptable.
are they even allowed to do this? "Oh, well, we can't be bothered to make a system for your operating system, so we'll just force you to use something else!" Duh...
Ugh... a local ISP (westpa.net) has their broadband service here... Their limit is 4GB a MONTH. The charge for exceeding that is 10 dollars/GB or partial GB over the limit. Jesus, in a week of running azureus, I racked up nearly 100 GB of transfers!
there is always at least one person demanding the child porn - the person who actually makes the sick shit. Catching the sickos who do this will be more effective than the guys who wank to a little girl naked.
People mature differently. I know a couple teenagers that are more mature than my 32-year old cousin. Leave it up to parents and oneself to make this decision.
Ok, to clarify things - the only thing they HAVE to give people is any modifications to programs licensed under the GPL. If they modified the Linux kernel running on this (which they most likely did) then, yes, they need to release that. If they wrote a custom app for this purpose, that does not need to be released.
there's a big difference here - when you download an album, you aren't passing their work off as your own. When you sample, and don't give proper credit, you make money from work you didn't do.
Google doesn't engage in the illegal activities that MS does, such as discounts for only offering windows on machines. Also, google doesn't bundle their services or products with any operating system.

You ever read failed states or hegemony or survival by noam chomsky?

Heh... I loved that book. Ayn Rand is a great writer. Objectivism is what my philosophy is based on.

mim@moralityinmedia.org there, guys. Have fun :)
Too bad they've taken a backseat to intel :(
That book that Torvalds co-wrote is pretty good. I think it's called "Just for fun". Great read.
I had this idea like 2 years ago.
this is a horrible idea. Using the client's whole computer, hard drive contents included, to sell ads is just wrong.
Not everything is an arrangement. You can get new prints of the original scores, and those can't be copyrighted.

How do you know that netscape didn't make a more compelling? Couldn't it have easily been the "I'm fine with what I have" mentality?
Freddy Mercury was a fucking GENIOUS.
That one was just on Adult Swim last night :D Anyway, moving on... this guy shouldn't be allowed to talk. I'll get the hot glue.
nope. my cousins who are both in their mid-twenties don't have any credit cards. Debit cards, but no credit cards.
Could you please be so kind as to provide a link to one of these? I've been looking for one, and I can't find a good one.

Will this have any effect on quality?
While i find this (mildly) interesting, I have to wonder how this is either 'news for nerds' or 'stuff that matters'. Really...

Er... actually, the original program to send messages to people instantly WAS open...
