It doesn't always work. When my vocational school went, I remember that coaster getting almost to the top... then coming down backwards. It's not supposed to do that.

Most of the problems come from the useless state and federal standards. Get rid of them; all they do is take up space that SHOULD be used to teach stuff that will actually help us one day.
Secondly, schools should not be saying 'our way is the only way'. If a student wants to take advanced courses, and is able, let them for christ's sake.
By shoving the ideal that everyone is intellectually equal down our throats, we lose a lot : the lazy bastards are still lazy bastards, but the ones who could have truly excelled have been brought down to the same level.
Schools really shouldn't be spending thousands of dollars on crappy technology, either. My school district just bought a bunch of
HP Thin clients at around 460-480 dollars each. And I could build a similar computer for about 250. Instead of funneling my tax dollars to a computer company as crappy as HP, I think that the money should be put towards teacher's salaries, which, in my district, are supposedly the lowest in the state, but are at least
well below the state average Have the a student organization to do the computer work; hell, half the time, me and my friends know more than the people who are getting paid, which is truly pitiful. But, you know, that's the price we pay for 'catching up with the rest of the state'.
While i was reading it, it showed it's age in several ways, the most obvious to me was the part about not being able to install apps to palmos. I can easily install apps to my device without any hacks.
Um... buddy? How in the HELL do you close the internet? If you're connected, you're at risk. And the internet doesn't 'break' your computer; the ad-ware, et cetera, breaks it. And what the hell is 'this new firefox VPN'? And it's not microsoft's internet... just say IE... that's much better than calling the internet M$. I shudder at the mere thought.
And why the hell do you need a porn search-bar? That's what google images is for!
sorry, but you obviously know next to nothing about the workings of much at all.
This was in what, st petersburg? You would think that they would have at least one person who would think to check the guy's internet history, e-mail, etc. If they're so concerned about it, they should just check it themselves.
In the article it has somebody quoted as saying "It opens up a whole new area for ethics, legal boundaries and responsibilities. It's a whole new frontier."
The person only meant responsibilities of the would-be 'hackers' or 'thieves'. But what about the responsibility of the owners of the access point to secure their network? Leaving your wireless network unsecured and then calling the cops when somebody 'steals' it is like leaving your car running overnight in New York City and thinking that nobody will steal it.
Am I going to get sued when, inferring that since I like Musical Artist A, and my friend likes musical artist A, and also likes musical artist B, that I should give artist B a chance?
this has been going on for years. These same ideas are used in amaroK, on Audioscrobbler, all over the place. How can they patent something that's been in use for a long time and is probably already patented?
That's not as bad as it is here. I live in a dying town, and the school district is constantly 'upgrading', making it seem as though it is getting closer to competing with other districts in technology. Well, now we have toasters and an ActiveX program called citrix. Guess what? It doesn't work on Linux, it doesn't work on mac, it doesn't even work on older (3+ years old) computers. And you know what the tech department is saying? That it's the computer owner's fault; they should buy a new computer. I'm sorry; not everyone runs windows; not everyone has the money to buy a brand new computer.
Ok... But still. Firefox has done better. And how are they supposed to conduct a true survey? Go into people's homes and watch what they use?
And... why exactly does it need to do that, in the modern era? Why identify yourself as internet explorer? THERE SHOULD BE ABSOLUTELY NO NEED TO.
I did a school report on this. The actual definition of a hacker is one who enjoys working on computers. I'm proud to be a geek; I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't negate others' 'right to privacy'; i don't cause riots. I just enjoy computers and learning more about them.
For those of you who are wondering how apple is going to keep people from using it on any computer, just remember: almost everything used in an apple computer is proprietary hardware. You keep that portion, you have it. The dev kit was probably only leaked b/c they don't quite have the proper hardware, but that's a small problem. The actual version most like will not run on a normal x86 processor, and even if it DOES, most people will still buy apples, b/c they want it to be 'easy'. That's why you don't see many computer-illiterates installing linux. They hear it's 'hard-to-use' and that they have to install it themselves. That seems so daunting to them, when it seems like peanuts to me.
Maybe they're trying to get back into the market. Plus, it's all done on a die. THere's technically no real 'wires' in the sense we think of. It's all a pattern etched onto a piece of silicon. It's really cool, actually.
When I was in eighth grade (I'm in 11th now0 we had two of these at the middle school. They were pretty much only used for the computer classes, and the teachers used them to show stuff to the entire class. Pretty neat stuff, really. Wish i had one. It's like a giant touch screen. Giant touch screen = shexy.

Will it work in Linux? I don't trust my mom and dad's computer >.>
That's good. Now if only they could fix the problems and not just the symptoms.
While i was reading it, it showed it's age in several ways, the most obvious to me was the part about not being able to install apps to palmos. I can easily install apps to my device without any hacks.
That's actually a great idea. Somebody wanna do this, please?

THere's a firefox extension that gets the weather... It's nice ^^

I misread that... >.>

Agreed. And I quote myself "YOu shouldn't need a help file to use a help file!"
Tell them to buy a laptop >.> Or a pda... or something >.>
It requires them to OFFER to block it. SO if you want your porn, say, "No Don't block it" If you don't want porn, say "Block it." That simple.

That really is cool. THat will mean faster, smaller processors. for probably only around the same price we pay now. That's good.
That would be 1/16 >.>
And yes, I did know that IMMEDIATELY

You don't need them hooked up to any network except to upload results. Just hook them up then, and that will, in most cases, solve the problem.
