Not really, it is very hard to create the proper pronunciation of words with a regulator in your mouth. You clamp down on the mouthpiece with your teeth and it blocks your tongue.
If you have a full face mask on, it would be easier to use a radio that is integrated with the mask.
The safest way to avoid BSE is to stop eating beef
I know -- I already avoid beef.
However, I cannot donate blood in the US because, 14 years ago, I spent 4 months in England. If this test can be used to eliminate any question that I have these prions, there would be no need to "indefinitely" defer me.
Wonder if they can adapt this to be an accurate test for prion related disease like BSE (mad cow disiease). If it could be used for both humans AND other animals, the food supply could become safer.
From TFA you quote (right after your quote, no less)
Now Biron and his colleagues have shown that the worm brainwashes the grasshopper by producing proteins which directly and indirectly affect the grasshopper's central nervous system.
This is the local governments (State and NO) fuck up... New Orleans always knew this would happen, and they did not spend the money to fix the levees first (The fed were ready to do it...
Hmm, seems the Feds were aware of the danger too -- since 2001.
I scuba dive and one "trick" we use is to rub a bit of toothpaste around the lenses our goggles then rinse out. Works best with regular paste, not gels. I keep a freebie sample from a hotel with my equipment. It usually lasts the better part of the day so even if you have to do it well before the race, you should be good.
a 150-kW beam and capable of knocking down a missile will be ready by 2007
Hmmm, I'm torn.
On one hand, IF it hits its intended target, that is one less "consumable" missile defense that has to be manufactured and paid for--> not a "one and done" defense.
On the other, it's one thing when stray bullets strafe a school like in New Jersey, but oh my, imagine the holes this could leave.
Maybe, but it's only a matter of time before Balco reps meet algae at the lab and give them "the cream." Wait til algae get buff on 'roids... watch what they can carry then.
I am perfectly at ease having battery back up for my computer, but you would need one for your door too. A standard sliding door can be pushed open fairly easily during power outages - imagine having to push 17 slats just get through.
Our energy use already surpasses its availability in peak times (recall rolling blackouts in California, the heat induced blackouts in NE US). Now they want to add DOORS to the grid? I wouldn't think there would be a lot of consumption per door, but still...
synthetic biologists themselves fret that rogue scientists or "biohackers" could create new biological weapons -- like deadly viruses that lack natural foes
Oh you mean like the polio virus they assembled from parts?
what are the natural foes of a virus? Immune systems, maybe? What else?
I am not oa rocket scientist but, looking at the present external tankdesign, it doesn't appear to be vacuum insulated.
I know it would add weight, but couldn't they have inner chambers to hold the fuel that are separated from the outer wall by a vacuum layer (like a thermos bottle)?
I think the weight difference would be offset by a safety factor -- namely less ice build up on the foam.
it is actually just like being a carrier for a disease (genetic or otherwise) -- In this case, you have the worm but it doesn't affect you. But you can pass the worm on to another.
I think a better term would be a vector, but hey, I hold no sway over the press.
I know, this is slashdot. The only sex acts involve, what...
Hands?
this looks really interesting for diving.

Doesn't get much better than a show with smart ass comments about others.

Exactly what we all do in life
Hell, now I have to log onto
Malaysian Astronaut Idol
Of course, since Stallman once said something intelligent
Well, He's one up on you, DA.
No doubt, I wonder what Vi$ta will do to the cost of a new PC.
They're pretty damn affordable now, but to get all the extra memory and such will be a huge price hike, not to mention the OS itself.
I shudder to think about it (I also shudder at M$ in general -- Pinky and the Brain always pops into my head -- if only Pinky had an inside job there)
If perfect spheres are needed, I wonder if it's possible to meld the elements in space - like in the ISS.
Zero G's should result in perfect sphere, but would the return to Earth's gravity warp them?

Q: What if this happened to people, but the behavior was at least passable, until it was 'too late'
A: It does happen -- They become politicians

Things I've read seem to disagree with you

But when the bullet comes down it will do so at the speed of a rain drop. Not exactly dangerous since bullets aren't too heavy
Really? You obviously never heard about the dumbass klansmen?

Lawpoop, as in rhymes with "scoop", not "ope" like the Catholic leader. ;)
I am posting instead of replying b/c there are already several separate posts that have it wrong. Gasp and shock, I know.
Type I diabetes is NOT associated with diet.
This article refers to an autoimmune disease, not a lifestyle induced one.

Not quite -- Miller-Urey succeeded in making organic molecules
While necessary for life, molecules are not living organisms.
Oro's experiment created the base adenine, which is one of 4 nitrogen bases in DNA. Again, not life.
You've stated that the safety factor is greater than the weight penalty
No I didn't -- read your own post. You QUOTE ME as saying "I THINK" and then you want me to show my math? What metric can I give you?
What I THINK: less ice on foam = less danger from falling foam.
I am not oa rocket scientist but, looking at the present external tankdesign, it doesn't appear to be vacuum insulated.
I know it would add weight, but couldn't they have inner chambers to hold the fuel that are separated from the outer wall by a vacuum layer (like a thermos bottle)?
