    this looks really interesting for diving.

    Not really, it is very hard to create the proper pronunciation of words with a regulator in your mouth. You clamp down on the mouthpiece with your teeth and it blocks your tongue.

    If you have a full face mask on, it would be easier to use a radio that is integrated with the mask.

    The safest way to avoid BSE is to stop eating beef

    I know -- I already avoid beef.

    However, I cannot donate blood in the US because, 14 years ago, I spent 4 months in England. If this test can be used to eliminate any question that I have these prions, there would be no need to "indefinitely" defer me.

    Wonder if they can adapt this to be an accurate test for prion related disease like BSE (mad cow disiease). If it could be used for both humans AND other animals, the food supply could become safer.

    No doubt, I wonder what Vi$ta will do to the cost of a new PC.

    They're pretty damn affordable now, but to get all the extra memory and such will be a huge price hike, not to mention the OS itself.

    I shudder to think about it (I also shudder at M$ in general -- Pinky and the Brain always pops into my head -- if only Pinky had an inside job there)

    Zero G's should result in perfect sphere, but would the return to Earth's gravity warp them?

    I scuba dive and one "trick" we use is to rub a bit of toothpaste around the lenses our goggles then rinse out. Works best with regular paste, not gels. I keep a freebie sample from a hotel with my equipment. It usually lasts the better part of the day so even if you have to do it well before the race, you should be good.

    Hmmm, I'm torn.

    On one hand, IF it hits its intended target, that is one less "consumable" missile defense that has to be manufactured and paid for--> not a "one and done" defense.

    On the other, it's one thing when stray bullets strafe a school like in New Jersey, but oh my, imagine the holes this could leave.

    Automation does not always equal improvement.

    I am perfectly at ease having battery back up for my computer, but you would need one for your door too. A standard sliding door can be pushed open fairly easily during power outages - imagine having to push 17 slats just get through.

    Our energy use already surpasses its availability in peak times (recall rolling blackouts in California, the heat induced blackouts in NE US). Now they want to add DOORS to the grid? I wouldn't think there would be a lot of consumption per door, but still...

    Not quite -- Miller-Urey succeeded in making organic molecules

    While necessary for life, molecules are not living organisms.

    Oro's experiment created the base adenine, which is one of 4 nitrogen bases in DNA. Again, not life.

    I am not oa rocket scientist but, looking at the present external tankdesign, it doesn't appear to be vacuum insulated.

    I know it would add weight, but couldn't they have inner chambers to hold the fuel that are separated from the outer wall by a vacuum layer (like a thermos bottle)?

    I think the weight difference would be offset by a safety factor -- namely less ice build up on the foam.

    it is actually just like being a carrier for a disease (genetic or otherwise) -- In this case, you have the worm but it doesn't affect you. But you can pass the worm on to another.

    I think a better term would be a vector, but hey, I hold no sway over the press.
