In fact, pretty much what I can get from/. right now.
The thing is _they dont have it_, even internally if a reporter wants something old he usually has to go to the archive (read basement) and digg for hours. Obviously its better at big newspapers, but not by a mile (they got dedicated people that do the digging, archives are in photo form, there might even be and index). What they find is usually just a copy of old newspaper, no revision history, no raw sources. Its not like in those cop shows where someone jumps out with big fat file full of pictures and hand written notes for 30 year old case.
Newspapers are SCARED of google, not because google knows how to archive this stuff, but because google is able to monetize it.
Uhh... just so you know: Dragon Age's lead SKU was the PC version.
The graphics are better on PC, the controls are better on PC, and the online elements integrate nicely on the PC.
-Better graphics? yes, with PC 2x the speed of Xbox you get better gaphics
-the controls are better on PC ? are you kidding???? until the patch you couldnt use mouse wheel cos it would glitch and block you out of weapon change functionality, not to mention a HUGE controller LAG (even when your gfx hits 60fps) due to mouse input aliasing and a bugged vsync.
-and the online elements integrate nicely on the PC again WHAT? cant invite friends to my session due to game publisher running ONE overloaded server for the whole world, I couldnt log in for full week for crying out loud.
People have no idea how to deal with multilane roads that have a stop sign; almost no-one will let a left turn through, all sorts of problems like that.
Maybe you should teach them this and test it on Drivers License exam instead of usual round the block with automatic transmission then, eh?
Yes it would, so would turning off the lights and letting people make choices. You dont see many gridlocks in Taiwan where its customary to ignore the lights.
I hope that the Chinese exports to the US do not mean the USA loses all control of the technology behind the venture.
Could you please elaborate what part of this "technology" USA owns and controls? You remind me of a guy that thought Tesla Sportster was a great American invention when in fact whole car is shipped into US in a form of modules that are merely screwed together by some immigrants at the back of Californian dealership.
"The Obama administration is hoping a shift to renewable energy will inject new life into the US manufacturing base and provide high-paying jobs"
Love this part, "new life into the US manufacturing base" by buying more Chinese crap:).
Before jumping to conclusions I'd like to see the context for this scene.
This scene is meant to visualize players reaction to No dedicated servers for MW2. Young russian gamer mows whole airport full of fat Americans with LMG in frustration.
Its a crime (felony) to criticize food products in some states (Texas for example). Your basically fucked unless your name is Oprah and you got $1 mill laying around to defend yourself.
...commercial spaceflight sector can provide a level of safety equal to that offered by the venerable Russian Soyuz system, which has flown safely for the last 38 years, and exceeding that of the Space Shuttle.
So the astronauts are saying that Soyuz is safer than the shuttle. Interesting.
The cancer that is Games for Windows Live has been growing before MW2. The funny thing is that dedicated servers aren't even against the GFWL rules, Section 8 uses GFWL on the PC and you can run dedicated servers (I heard you can even run dedis on a PC for the 360 version so even consoles get to use dedicated servers). I don't think it has mod support but I think Dawn of War 2 does and that's also using GFWL.
Overall though GFWL is inconvenient and crappy and Steam is a much better option than it.
but but.. but MW2 wont use Windows Live, its gonna use Steam:)
I suspect the real reasons behind it are that they want you BUYING their official DLC (not getting free mods from other players) and because routing the game through official servers only means that they can control piracy a lot easier (since you can't just route your pirated version into a private server somewhere).
yes, that worked great for L4D... oh wait, I can play it online cracked
That's nice that "A US company and its Chinese partner" are piloting the bus, but I think it would be much more interesting to know who designed and built it.
Chinese did, and that "US company" is also Chinese. Now shut up and go to Walmart buy more Chinese stuff.
yes, stand alone servers code that wes already implemented for cod4 is more "difficult things to test and support" than P2P multiplayer system that fails EVERY TIME new game is released for at least few weeks (just try to play Operation Flashpoint:DR match), depends on end users upload speed, favors the host, lags, disconnects, drops, DESTROYS PC gaming communities replacing them with matchmaking, removes any possibility of Clanbase ladder or any other form of competitive gaming.. and so on.
Because its starting to affect PC gamers. Just look up what Infinity Ward did with Modern Warfare 2 - they "Xbox Live"'d it to hell and locked out ALL the things PC was good for (mods, stand alone servers).
and this wasn't even $250, they didn't count APRS radio, camera and the rest of the gear. I can send payload to the moon for $250 if I count like they did.
Somehow I don't think universe moves in Planck tick intervals. Not to mention implications of so many possibilities. There are no known analogies in nature that would suggest such phenomenon occurs.
If I want education, I'll watch Science/Discovery/History
Better avoid American shows. Just the other day I watched "Lock N' Load with R. Lee Ermey" where host happily omitted Pinfire mechanism invented by French Gunsmith, instead declaring American inventors as fathers of modern shotguns/ammunition. Rewriting history much, eh?
If the many-worlds interpretation is correct then at each run of the experiment, the experimenter will be split into one world in which he survives and another world in which he dies.
Yes, because life is somehow magical and whole cosmos revolves around living creatures, oh wait, i meant Humans, other life is non important. You forgot to throw religion in there somewhere, it would suit nicely with its 1500 years of Earth centered universe..
It would be an interesting exercise to check out the U.S. systems and review how they could be improved.
Burn down all Fast Food chains, that should do it.
Access to all archives
Good searching (like with a google appliance)
Revision history
Access to raw source material
Access to comment pages on all stories

With the CPU/GPU horsepower available, there is no reason why you can't host a game and still get stellar framerates.
its not about frames, its about pings/lag

Wouldn't matter.
Yes it would, so would turning off the lights and letting people make choices. You dont see many gridlocks in Taiwan where its customary to ignore the lights.
The Lotus Elise frame is glued together, not screwed/wielded(!)
and its glued where? and I was talking about what being done in Cali?

Just like AK47/74 is more reliable than m4/16
ah, so all it takes for a successful mission is to take some bitches on board.

it should be fairly trivial to filter servers based on
there wont be ANY SERVERS, just game sessions, if the session starts you CANT join in.

I can get 120/20 for $67 in Warsaw.
I haven't seen a desktop in a long time that had ECC RAM
You mean like EVERY single AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3 board that ever existed? Thats only half of the market so its quite understandable you missed it.
