Hehe. Thank you Thank you. To be fair I've been studying Japanese for like 3 years now, so ya I guess you got me. But even if I wasn't a Japanaphile...Hmmm how to put this. Nintento, Sega, Turbographix, Neogeo. Who cares I guess I'm old but... um... Ya I stand by my statement that video games and Japan go hand in hand.
Microsoft slapping a bunch of computer parts into a pint sized box and announcing "Wowzers we have video game console now" doesn't mean that suddenly they are "in a better position to tackle gaming". Not dissing my country of the USA, I mean we make bad assed games like Doom and Quake but.... Come on man "OMFG KAWAII~ NIHON~~~!" fanboyism? lol... OK I guess I am biased but aren't like 80% of video games actually from Japan? 15 years ago that figure was probably more like 95%.
"I say that MS is better able to target homebrew because they've been doing that on the PC for a good long while". I will introduce you to my other fanboyism: Linux. And it's not just that since abandoning MS 5 years ago my 20 year computing experience suddenly got 10X better...it's that Microsoft's lousy-assed OS did the unforgiveable crime of actually jumping through hoops to go around me being even pretty careful, and it deleted all my stuff. OK long story short Microsoft asked if I wanted to make main hard drive ready for windows...I said yes. So it ignored my 2 gig primary hard drive, and repartitioned my 30 gig secondary hd as a 2 gig hard drive. So ya I had a reason to jump ship, but even so, every day I am glad I don't have to put up with that crap.
Which is why I think you and I are both probably big computer nerds but....we see life in a completely different perspectives. To me "Microsoft" and "homegrown" in the same sentance seems absolutely and completely ABSURD, lol. Uh, ya 50 billion company + "homegrown" lol. I'm not saying that Sony has it either........at this moment if you think X-Box 360 has any way shape or form better homegrown support than Nintendo's upcoming Wii....then you need to check out Wii...Wiiiiiiiiiiiii man hehe.
BTW there are 120 million people in Japan, and you make the statment that there are more gamers out there than that? Well I guess that'd be hard to prove either way but don't like 1 in 5 Japanese own the new DS handheld? That is like 1 in 5 people in the country. How many people in US have super DUPER Microsoft console, and what percentage of that is to number of people here.
MS has a almost complete lock on the PC market, but I will stand by my original statement that video games=Japan, and I think I have explained to you that calling me such a vile fanboy may be over the top!
Of course, I started the name calling!!!! Sorry about that buddy:)
I didn't mean to treat you bad
Didn't know just what I had
But, honey, now I do
And don't it make my brown eyes
Don't it make my brown eyes
Don't it make my brown eyes blue
I dunno man. MS may be the new coming of Jesus or something, I mean I know they are an awesome company, but Sony has JAPAN. MS may be super-great programmers of wonderful OS "Windows" and they may make a million different proprietary languages for themselves, but we're talking about freaking VIDEO GAMES here. And Nintendo was making the argument that N64 didn't need a cd-rom, because who would ever possibly need that much data-space for a game? Well look how well that turned out...PS with like a million RPG's, and N64 with just few enough that you don't even have to take off your shoes and socks to count them all, you can do it all on your fingers!!
Ya I was being sarcastic. Microsoft makes holy crappy OS and it really makes me mad that they are trying to leverage their influence into the video gaming world. Call me old fashioned, but video games and Japan sortof go hand in hand... MS and video games...not so much.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't feel you give Sony enough credit as to their position or influence in the video game world, and you come across as super duper MS fanboy:)
Heh. I have a very strong feeling that in the end this will be similar to PS vs N64. PS3 has what 10 times the game storage capacity of XBox 360...not an issue now....maybe an issue in a couple years? N64 may not have been such an utter flop (at least in my eyes) if it had more than a handfull of RPG's, and while obviously XBox 360 has RPG's... I dunno in the end I'm just a Microsoft hater and while I love Nintendo, N64 was a huge flop...
I don't know about you man. I've downloaded Mozilla or Firefox at least a dozen times on Windows machines, without IE. You realize that ftp is included in Windows? Holy cow, what the heck is wrong with little text based browser like w3m or links? Why do we need a buggy insecure piece of crap? Are people so insecure that they need to ally themselves with a company like Microsoft and defend their piece of crap software when it's totally not necessary, in fact detrimental to the life of their computer?
Not having a browser installed = pain in the ass to get one installed = bad idea.
HOLY COW!! Do you really need linux users to explain to you how to use your own magnificent OS which you shelled out mega bucks for but don't even know about "ftp"?
Sorry not trying to make it personal and it's not a big deal...I don't blame you, it's a lot easier to just fire up the default browser and use it to download Firefox. It just seems sortof like playing Russian Roulette when that default browser is Internet Explorer!!
Bundling IE doesn't prevent OEMs from doing their customers a favor by installing Firefox and making it the default browser. There's no good reason not to bundle it.
Ah, actually there is a good reason not to bundle it. It's a piece of crap!!:) With other browsers with a much better track record, actually should state that with other browsers existing that do not have a track record of destroying people's computers, I think that's good enough of a reason to not bundle it. Heck you wouldn't hear about government web sites being hax0red because of some stupid glaring IE security hole if it wasn't bundled, unless the maintainer actually chose to download it and install it...which could probably construed as an act of state sabotage or something!!
Sorry for coming across as a jerk!:) I just orded DirectTV today and one of their web pages has this huge "We coded this paege for Internet Explorder" thing going on. Their feedback form was totally weak, it only showed half the line, and there was no submit button. Doesn't say a lot for the html coders who made the decision to try to alienate this customer for whatever reason. Fortunately don't need Internet Explorder to watch NFL!!:)
I can't speak for the original poster, but a lot of people don't vote because the issues that both parties run on are in general, retarded. In some states you are lucky to have a candidate who stands up against the racist Marijuana Prohibition of like 70-80 years ago, and in fact both the Republican candidate and the Democratic candidate both support the completely hideous policy. So who is dumb? Voting for someone who doesn't really have a moral leg to stand or, or say voting for someone of whom, of like 40,000 issues you may agree with him on 21,000. As for the other policies, voting for him or her is actually against your best interest. I feel that the current "one vote, one candidate" system is fundamentally outdated and absurd considering that you end up putting someone into office who just does whatever the Republican or Democratic party wants, not neccessarily voting for what you or the other people who voted him in wanted, or even on the issues they said they were supporting during the election.
In any case, I may be wrong, but didn't more people vote for Kerry than for any other presidential candidate before the 2004 election? It just ended up that more people voted for Bush in this election. Bush won fair and square, but I don't think that making a broad general attack on Democrats, calling them stupid for not getting out and voting really helps the debate any. I'm not one of the people calling Democrats the same as Republicans, I'm just saying both are equally retarded, as is our current system of voting. So do we even have a 50% turnout on voting right now? So if the Republicans put Bush into power again in a "landslide" and a "mandate", that means that what like 26% of the eligable voting base agrees with some of the issues that Republicans claim to care about, and that's a huge mandate. Right.
I mean when you go to a football game and you have all these people in the stadium cheering for the same team, you don't check with the guys sitting next to you to make sure that they are of the same party as you or you hate their guts. IT'S RETARDED TO LUMP 40,000 ISSUES AND SPLIT IT UP INTO 2 PARTIES, BOTH OF WHICH ARE COMPLETELY FULL OF SHIT.

I hear you that there is something to be said about a well-written man page. That being said I prefer by a ratio of about 250:1 having the options to change program behavior available from an options menu, with handy tool-tips on mouse over on the check-boxes, than having some developers pick and choose what functionality is available to me without having to jump through hoops. I know a lot of people think simpler is more beautiful but I definitely like being able to convieniently change options to my liking. Don't get me wrong Gnome is a great environment but Gnome makes me feel like I have to just deal with dozens of little annoying twirks just because some developer prefers it that way, or someone with Mac-envy is trying to sneak a lil of that in here somewhere, or things are simplified to the point of either being completely useless or at the very least a lot more time-consuming to do simple things. Of course I'm just generalizing the emotions I feel when I use Gnome, and I know a lot of people love it for the very reasons I don't:)
My 93' Sunbird got like 33 MPH too, with about 170k miles. I'm trying to get rid of it actually, but it's having stereotypical (to this model) water cooling issues so I'll probably just junk it. (My 2000 Civic gets like 32 MPH, but is much nicer than the Sunbid:) )
I dunno man. If I have to click 3 times to get something done just because they were making it "simple", when the corresponding KDE dialog has it all right there and it's 1 click...man I don't really care about that "simplicity and aesthetics" stuff at all. Actually I would say I completely disagree with your statement regarding ease of use/usability. I don't want to be mean, but my problem with gnome is much like my problem with Microsoft windows interface. Theres like a million little things that make me go "WTF" comparing them with KDE. I guess it may just be a matter of being used to something but in general simplicity and non-configurability are HUGE turn offs for me. I mean I don't want so complicated as to make it a head-ache...but I think you would have to be completely off your rocker and out of your mind to claim that KDE is REALLY that complicated.
Gnome is a great GUI environment and all...but...enough simplicity is enough. I recently compiled Firefox 1.5 and now when I try to save a file it uses a gnome save dialog, even though I'm in KDE. I tried to fix it, but if it really matters to me I'll try again. I'm sorry but that save interface thing is just ugly, dumbed down, and totally non-functional. Windows 3.1 had a better save dialog. I'm not stupid, K:) Don't get me wrong, gnome is a good environment and all...just not for me.
So what you are saying is that Microsoft Windows is like alcoholism? You know, the whole definition of insanity thing: continuing to do the same thing exactly the same way every time and expecting different results? Sure, people shell out good money for Microsoft Windows all the time, but that doesn't mean that they are sane.
I read your comment about how the police aren't supposed to be involved with politics, but that simply isn't true. When states have decriminalizing marijuana on the ballot or when a bill advocating decriminalization of marijuana is in a legislature...hooo boy. Those police lobbyist boys are all over that.

It'd be worse if you were/mudding/ and your mud had a "go into certain areas, if you get player killed they can loot you and you get more penalties like losing a level, losing certain eq, losing stats, etc. I've been *this* close to having this happen to me when my isp dropped on me like 4 years ago... and I didn't appreciate the "OK, lets go through the checklist. You don't run windows? The problem must be on your computer!" Then 3 days later when most people in town don't have a connection it's obvious they were bullshitting. If I had got chaotic player killed because of their retardedness and then had to put up with their lame attempts to accuse my computer of being configured wrong instead of reporting the outage...I would have been very mad.
It's a learned thing. While most people would think that a peice of executable code signed by "Bill Gates" of "Microsoft" would be trustworthy, I don't want it anywhere near my computer.
Not since the day I decided to be lazy and not disconnect my main hard drive like I had 10 times before. Windows 98 installer asked me 3 times if I wanted to install windows on my "main hard drive" and I said yes, because I had my new crap 2 gig hard drive hooked up and bios had recognized it as "primary" and my 40 gig hard drive with all my data was hooked up as secondary.
So windows leaves my 2 gig primary hard drive alone and installs windows on a new 2 gig partition on my 40 gig hard drive.
I contacted Microsoft repeatedly and after they stopped ignoring me they said sorry your shit out of luck!!
So do I "trust" anything from Microsoft?
Nope!!!!
But you might:) And it's 99/100 going to be ok for you. But still.... I DON'T. It's up to you:)
I agree with you. Unfortunately, I think you fell pray to an anonymous coward troll who was being deliberately obtuse:) I mean a computer comparing words to a dictionary may have a hard time comprehending...but a person who reads English? There have been studies that you just need like the first letter and the last letter and then you can like leave the vowels out and most people can still comprehend the word, except for boring people who will reply just to complain about your inadequate use of the English langauge. Too much bitchslapping by high school english teachers!!!:)
Japanese is markedly different from Chinese, other than some of the same letters:) Generally google or babelfish.altavista or anything has a hard time translating Japanese to English. I mean you get the idea, but the trolls on Slashdot would cut you to pieces in their meaningless, retarded, airheaded corrections if you spoke with 1/10 of the grammatical errors that the current Japanese>English engines put out. ANY translation is good though, especially like this algorithm in the article, as most Americans think that 26 letters is a lot. Chinese has how many thousands?
Indeed, that is a great utility. It is also very usefor for situations when you are opening a lot of links from a news page or something and more than one has a flash presentation, so they dont all start playing until you're good and ready to watch them:)
O.K. Mr Anonymous Coword CUNT, would you mind fucking explaining why having a few grammatical errors in your post makes your entire post invalid? Are you too fucking stupid to be able to interpret POOR ENGLISH to understand what he is saying? You are really that fucking stupid? A few spelling errors, a few grammatical errors...WHO THE FUCK CARES, CUNT.
You are the fucking cunt who goes into practically any convienience store in the nation and makes the next person in line wait for minutes while you bitch out the illegal immigrant at the cashier station about his poor use of the English Language. Fuck you, cunt. You don't have the right to NOT BE OFFENDED. If you are so fucking offended by bad english, there's more effective ways to go about solving the problem than making yourself a tool and complaining about something that billions and billions of other anal retards like yourself have already complained about, namely.... - - - someone making a spelling mistake or a grammar mistake and you are so fucking stupid you cannot comprehend what they mean because they fucked up so bad!!!! Fucking cunt! Fuck you!!!!!!!!!
OK, so this is the sheet of material NASA can put between the external tank and the shuttle to ensure FOAM falling off doesn't hit the shuttle at near supersonic speads. I'm sick of hearing NAYSAYERS say this is retarded.... you have a shuttle, you have an external tank a few feet away. You have a problem with shit falling off one and hitting the other. SO FUCKING put something in between. Holy cow, is it so hard?
Do you remember Mutant League Football on the Genesis? It was basically the exact Madden engine of that year, with dramatically altered environments, rules, teams, etc. Was one of my favorite Genesis games.
You mean this is a strong, thin, substance? Why couldn't we put a layer of this on the space shuttle to be pulled off after in orbit, to protect the hundreds of tiles that enable her to reenter the atmosphere. Why can't we put a bunch of two by fours between the shuttle and the external tank holding a screen of these to make sure that foam falling off doesn't hit the shuttle.... Why can't we just wrap the external tank in this to make sure foam doesn't fall off and hit the shuttle. I got shut down suggesting such a thing to prevent foam hitting the shuttle, with the article...I ask again....why not? We spend sooo much money on the shuttle anyways, why is this such a bad idea to implement? I want the 3 remaining shuttles and all their crews to come back home as much as anyone!!! At least till we implement a 21st century vehicle!!!
Indeed. When the shuttle that burned up was about to launch, I was waiting. CNN and Headline News and Foxnews and MSNBC all let me know before hand. I didn't have NASA TV. So I waited. And waited. Finally, One of the channels had Columbia, a minute or two after launch. It was a little dot. Well thank you very much Mr. Apathetic retard "Liberal Media" guys. Fuck you very much for letting me watch the space shuttle blast off. I guess it was more important to talk about whatever the hell you were talking about. You couldn't spare 5 fucking minutes of your fucking programming time to showing the space shuttle blast off, for one of the last times, likely, hopefully. Well, I came home from work a week or 2 later and you assholes all had the space shuttle on tv, disintegrating over Texas:P

Why?
Indeed, that is a great utility. It is also very usefor for situations when you are opening a lot of links from a news page or something and more than one has a flash presentation, so they dont all start playing until you're good and ready to watch them :)
ieeeeeeeee
If you are so fucking offended by bad english, there's more effective ways to go about solving the problem than making yourself a tool and complaining about something that billions and billions of other anal retards like yourself have already complained about, namely ....
Well, I came home from work a week or 2 later and you assholes all had the space shuttle on tv, disintegrating over Texas :P
