Okay I didn't dampen the room but I did spend 45 minutes adjusting the speakers (it envolved a protractor and a frikken laser and some string). The extra 2 channels that are filled is a valid point but atleast im future proof (as much as anyone can be) PS That was a good comeback. Verily I salute thee sire, you and your merry band of ner-do wells!

I think the best way to avod piracy is to embrace in an I-Tunes making the cost of a legal copy of a track/movie so cheap as to make illegal downloads not worth it (what with the quality issue and occasion accidental pron download).

On the subject of pirated movies howlong befor DVD rips will include a DTS/Dolby Digital Sound Track, it pisses me off when downloading a movie (that I already own.... yes that should cover me) that my lovely 7.1 THX system only has 2 channels to play with. grr.

Seriously though, people in a space station are very expensive in the long run and although they provide fascility for micro-gravity research ect alot of this could be achived with and un-maned drone.
People on the moon however I think is a much better idea as with a few basic supplies it could become self sufficiant what with all the free water and an ample back yard to stick solar pannels, make hydrogen fuel and grow food stuffs. Plus the added bonus of hulking great lumps of rock to shield from radiation.

  18. Rockets are so in-effcient on NASA Scraps Shuttle And Returns to Rockets · · Score: 3, Interesting

The biggest breakthough we can hope for is for the brainboxes at NASA/ESA to make a launch vehicle that doesn't carry it's own fule. The advantages of such a system are huge, lower mass (several thousand ton of fule less) means less fule all oth which makes for a cheaper and safer launch with heavier payloads.

    Sudgestions my are:
magnetic pulse/rail gun to repel/shoot the craft (probably work better on the moon)
fire the fule at the craft at a plate unter the craft (exploding on contact)
Space elevator go solar! That Jap station with the 3^2km pannels might come in useful.

  22. I dont know what to expect so. on Hurricane Relief - What Would You Bring? · · Score: 1

Best think is to assume the worst (no power/water/food), I most of this is you centric as you need to take care of your self first. I've also assumed you will be there for more than one day, if this is not the case then ignor the section on sleeping. In general you need the think of the following when packing.

    Stuff to Wear
I would advise a good pair of hiking boots and lots of good socks to keep your feet comfy, I do not know howmuch water is there if it is a lot then army surplus swamp boots are a good choice.
Hard waring cloaths like jeans and a shirt you can ware over a t-shirt. With jeans it is worth taking two pairs; a dry set and a wet/dirty set, wear the wet/dirty ones in the day and the dry set in the evening when you have finished working.

    Stuff to Sleep in
If accomedation is an issue the a good tent is neeted pref with a fly screen.
Dont for get a sleeping mat as the ground is realy uncomfortable without one and will ruin a nights sleep.
A good warm sleeping bag, it is best to have on that is too warm as you can unzip it to cool off

    Stuff to Eat
As you have a u-haul pack tins (and a tin opener!)/de-hydrated that cant go off and high energy foods like nuts, chocolate is also good as well.. it's chocolate!

    Stuff to Drink
Bring clean water and lots of it if there is not any available each team member will need between 2->4l of water a day if they are working hard.
Water sterilisation kit may also be use full, I would advise boiling then adding a chlorien baised purifyer, there are addatives you can add afterwards that will take away the taste if you want.
Keep your clean and dirt water separate, never gather untrerated water in the same container as you drink from!
    Tea/Coffee/fruit concentrate

    Tools
A Good First Aid kit (Always assue that you may have to deal with a serious cut/breakage), there are many available from camping stores ask the staff there. You may want to add some anti-dihoretics to the kit as this can be quite serious.
    Blankets
    Small Axe/Saw
    A Good knife
    Mobile Phone
    Light, tourches(+spare batts)/gas lantern
    Gas Stove
    Fire lighting kit
Lots of rope and gaffer/duct tape
    Plastic ground sheeting

  23. Re:Typical Sony on Microsoft, Intel back HD DVD over Blu-ray · · Score: 1

I think the crux of the matter is sony has spent alot developing HD-DVD in the ame way that the developers of HD-DVD cost quite a bit in R&D. To the victors go the spoils and this is the real drive by each party to re-coupe costs and (step 3) profit!

This could of been avoided if everyone had got together at the begining and worked as one team but with politics (both office and national) this can realy happen so there will always be conflicting standards. I beleave this will get worse not better as nations like china start to assert themself in the world, after all if 2bn Chinese decide to use there own format it is a sizable market.

Considering there were arguements over the colour of the first prototype wheel should all technology be banned, in this reporters oppinion the answer is, Yes.
