My argument is just as strong as the argument I was responding to, which claims that the quality of the media affects whether or not someone is going to listen to an argument -- ie, judging the book by its cover. However, using Lessig in the first place is an appeal to authority, a rhetorical technique which often works best if the authority is recognized as such, so the quality of the video is secondary to the subject (not the topic) of the video.

If our lives were closer to natural, it would be more obvious. That tecnhology has enabled us to all but remove the need for evolution, then biological adaptations approach moot.

-- The ancestors of Northern Europeans (and those of us whose ancestors originated there) have light skin and eyes because it was advantageous to have less melonin for Vitamin D production, and blue eyes allow in more light than brown eyes.

-- Africans and other Equitorial people are darker of skin and eyes for exactly the opposite reason. Likewise, being a carrier of Sickle Cell Anemia is an advantage in Africa, as it is a natural protection against malaria (although actually having sickle cell is a drawback)

The fact that we now have sun glasses, sun screen, vitamin supplements and medicine means that "white" people can manage in the tropics and that "black" people can manage farther north.

Of course, when it comes down to fights such as the Yugoslavian war (Serbian and Croation are the same language with different alphabets), Indian/Pakistan (Hindu and Urdu are the same language with different alphabets), etc... the lines are blurry and it becomes an issue of perception more than anything really substantive.

However, to say that evolution and adaption work for animals, but are irrelevant to people is pretty god damned stupid.

However, yes, OP was using sources which don't really back up what he was trying to say.

If Hitler had taken out the Russians, we wouldn't be having this coversation right now. Anyway, despite whatever war propaganda you may have heard, it is quite obvious that it was not a priority of the NSDAP, nor of Hitler, to pursue agressiong with the Western allies.

France and Britain declared war on Germany first, then it was several weeks before the Germans did anything about it, and then merely to close the Western flank.

Roosevelt goaded the Japanese into attacking us so that we could fight it out with them -- but that also meant getting into it with Germany and Italy due to the Tripartied Pact.

Yes, World War I was a complete and total waste of time. Not a shot had been fired on German soil. Germany had not lost any territory. The Western Allies were about to capitulate and peace was going to be agreed upon. American involvement in the war merely prolonged it, allowing the French, who should have lost, to force Germany under the yolk, and that created the situation which lead to WWII.

The Civil War is not a foreign war and so it doesn't count for purposes of this discussion. I was born in New York, grew up in Virginia, with extended stays in New York, New Hampshire, and Ireland, and frankly just consider myself "East Coast" if I must be anything -- so I would just as soon keep out of that one.

Then again, I also don't care of those "break away" provinces break away -- let them for all I care. I also support Chechnya, the Basques and a slew of other things. Freedom good, Empire dickish.

My father was an airline pilot for years and recently retired. His opinion of the matter is that the reason TSA searches little old white grannies (and myself -- constantly. I've pretty much given up on flying because I **ALWAYS** get taggged) is that they don't WANT to find anything which they might have to deal with.

They harass pilots and take their nailclippers -- as if the captain of the plane needs nailclippers to hijack a plane that he's already in command of (mind you, there is a fire ax in the cockpit that can chop through the bulkhead).

The term the pilots use most often for it all is "political eyewash." Not that it matters, because after 911, passengers aren't just going to sit by for a hijacking ever again. The "rules" have changed. This is no longer the 1980s. Its not like the "Delta Force" movies anymore.

Racist or not, it would probably be more reasonable to search people who actually fit the known profile of like, you know, everyone who has ever hijacked a plane ever... but that might mean that the TSA people would actually have to do something. Much easier just to harass grannies from Iowa than to try and thwart "terrorism"
