You could, but it would be expensive and wouldn't generate much power (unless you got a hell of a lot of rain). The generaters would be costly (to be small enough) and would produce very little power for very few days.
Maybe it has to do with self defense? In FPS the enemy is usually trying to kill you. In Civ they aren't (if they have a treaty).
Still doesn't explain military combat where soldiers have physcological problems after. That may have to do with them starting to rethink their actions (it being real people). Where as in your game you don't rethink them after the fact.
Maybe it is a genetic link. Scientist have tried to explain behavior with genetics, this could be an example.
Australia is descended from criminals who would have questioned authority (thus their low numbers). Where as the descendents in Germany would be from the survivors, those who followed orders and weren't killed.
Hypotetically if you put up a totalitarian gov't in Australia and killed of those who questioned your authority the next generation might follow orders better, being descended from those who originally followed orders.
I actually have my gnome theme set to mimic Windows Classic. Save that my one panel is on top of the screen, and has a pineapple instead of a start button. I have found a lot of themes which are basic looking.
'Having to walk a mile or so home' Wow, a mile around my school is owned by the school (3 schools near each other) and the fire department (2-3 trucks in a garage and a large empty field). I live 15 minutes away if you ignore the speed limits (drive like the cops). It would take all day to walk to or from my school, most places are no longer built for walking, but for driving.
Using slashdot search and ordering by date, and clicking next 30 I got
http://science.slashdot.org/comments.pl?cid=441212 2&sid=41804 on Tuesday October 08, 2002. But it appears to not be the first. Google doesn't show all the results either. The one I link to does follow the simpson quote exactly. (talks of insects)
Thing is, in the rural areas (places that don't have DSL in many places) libraries are far from walking distance. If I want to go to a public library I have to drive several miles down a busy highway. School libraries are closed to the public. And once I get to the library I have to share one of two computers with everyone else. Also there is no wifi where I live.
Office formats in a gpl friendly way. Fix IE so that all browsers (open browsers/nonopen browsers) can access the same web. That is all I can think of.
2. in the case of executables isn't unique to windows, most OSs let the program choose its own icon. Example, get a Linux box and look at the firefox logo, OpenOFfice, GIMP, and so on.
If you use such little server space/bandwidth it could be more cost productive to get one of the multiple under $5 plans that some hosting companies have.
...that the average joe hates acroynms, my friends which know nothing about this are more likely to pick blu-ray merely because it doesn't have acronyms. I think people prefer things they can say, blue-ray vs h-d-d-v-d.
Most enviromentalist don't advocate pure solar, they advocate using it the take strain off other systems, I look at AC in the desert as big strain to be removed.
Put a solar farm on several people's roofs, put a wind farm here and there, coastal cities get wave generators, and everything else can be nuclear. That is the future, not pure solar.
If this new system could be inmproved to focus the light to a small line I wonder if panels could be hid inbetween roof shingles? Removing the ugly factor entirly, though thick black lines could be cool.
I have had similar experiance around my town, I found that as long as the school buses are not moving/stoping, then the 3 cars on the road will not have problems. Once the buses are moving there can be 1 hour delays if you are unlucky, 20 minutes if you are lucky.
So best commute 5PM yesterday through 4AM today, 8AM through 3PM, 5PM to tomarrow. I think more people ride the busses in the mornings (1 hour difference).

How about large sirens on the beach, they use those for alot of things in the US (not only on beaches).

c id=736976 from Monday October 02, 2000 (I think) is linked from wikipedia. It offers apologies to The Simpsons. Wikipedia claims it is the first know use. (talks of fungus)

oxymoron != redundant
Redundant is repeating something, oxymoron is contradicting something.
