If there is a watermark embedded into a song I purchase, does that mean it is a new and unique work? Would it stand alone and separate from another purchased copy of the same song? Does this also mean that I paid the company to produce an original work for me, and now I own it and the copyright?
When the Sixth Circuit "ruled that details about the program, including who was targeted, are state secrets" revealed the courts intentions of how they would be handling these cases.
Kind of makes me wonder if the judges that were removed were removed in preparation for these types of cases...
I agree, just because it is abrasive does not make it less true.
I guess I have a different opinion of how to present myself in public forums and discussions, which is why I don't have to hide as an AC. The same points that were made could have been made without the inflammatory attitude that came with the comment.
The intention of my original post was to show that the problem had been resolved (which was not in the summary).
I was not trying to get into any kind of flame war with you, and I don't know why you seem to be taking this so personally.
No flame here. I meant exactly what I said, and did not mix words in any way. I didn't take the comment on the author's page into account because it was posted by "Anonymous" and abrasive. Your comment was accusing me of not including the AC's comment.
I'm not sure why you think we should be upset with the submitter/author, as he seemed to be trying to give an account of the issues he was dealing with. On the first day he did call the "magic number" he posted, but the person was not able to help him properly, delaying the resolution of the problem. That's not ignoring it.
I don't feel I need to apologize for skipping that. I tend to give less attention to anonymous posters, whether on/. or elsewhere.
ACs tend to be more inflammatory and abrasive than is necessary, which they probably would not had they put their name (or pseudonym as the case may be) behind what they say.
I will add, and others have caught this as well, that the "magic number" he mentioned is the same number he was given in an e-mail when a problem was first identified.
We just did it. After probably 20 or so phone calls to numerous departments all over Apple and AT&T we finally found the *right* department who can actually activate iPhones with you online, on the spot.
The magic number, and you will want to write this one down, is 877-800-3701. A special shout out and thanks to Scott Francis who left us a comment with the key to getting this whole mess solved. Apparently this is the one place at AT&T where they can actually activate your iPhone with you online. It was about a 20 minute hold and about a 10 minute process but the iPhone is now activated.
Thanks to everyone who spent the last day plus with us on ZooomrTV while we got it activated. It's been a fun ride. Now time to play with the phone and figure it out.
"Save the planet" is all I seem to hear lately. The Earth will heal itself, and is not in jeopardy. Our ability to exist on this planet may be in question, but something tells me that even if we all die off the planet will remain.
If there are changes in the environment, the strongest/fittest will survive, adapt, evolve to the new conditions. I am not saying that we should run out an trash the place up, whether we're talking about the islands in question, or the planet. We need to stop trying to save every little creature on the planet. Species will come and go, ever hear of dinosaurs?
Funny thing is, every time I hear about all of this, I think back to SimEarth, where the climax of your civilization is when cities are fitted with engines to exodus the Earth and leave it as a large zoo.
How so? If "bad guy" show up at a U.S. Customs checkpoint in an U.S. airport, and is denied entry, wouldn't he have to take another flight immediately to somewhere else, or back home?
Would this flight be cheap? Most likely not.
If "bad guy" already had a round trip ticket, would the airline make him pay a "change fee" to immediately reschedule his flight? Most likely.
Affect the bottom line of the airline? Doesn't look like it.
I have to say that I have been using Apples since the Apple ][, and currently have a few Macs at home. I know the PC side as well, having worked on them for the past 11 years. When most people ask me what computer to buy, I send them to the PC market.
Why?
More targets that keep the "bad guys" from coming at me at home. I only recommend Macs to my closest friends, and some of my family.
Mod me to hell for this, but I know I'm not the only Mac user to feel this way.
When is/. going to start their own BBS? Then we can avoid this whole intarweb thing. Make it such that subscribers get to read the stories 3 days before non-subscribers. The money received from the subscribers would go to pay for the inbound modem lines and news wire fees.
Yeah... screw the man. Oh wait... we would still have to use phone lines...
But they know that if they can get the "telephone and cable incumbents that dominate the wireline market" bumped out of, or at least have them given a reduced presence in, the auction they have a better chance of winning the auction with less up front out of pocket.
Does that mean free, high speed, wireless internet access paid for by Google Ads? Probably not. But it might. There were several companies doing the same with dial-up a few years back.
"The 700 MHz auctions will not give birth to the much anticipated third pipe if the licenses are auctioned to the very same vertically integrated telephone and cable incumbents that dominate the wireline market."
Reading that leads me to believe that "telephone and cable incumbents that dominate the wireline market" are the first two pipes.
Pipes of course referring to internet connectivity.
You have to have a pipe to connect to the tubes... (couldn't resist)
The Queen is still Head of State (or Monarch if you prefer) for Australia and Canada. So no, Australia doesn't have a navy so much as the Queen has naval forces in Australia. Why do you think the names of all the ships begin with "HM"?
In the World Factbook, scroll down to "Executive branch" on these pages: Australia Canada
The same information could easily be found in other places, pick your source of preference.
Of course you could argue that Canada gained it's independence in 1982, but the fact remains that it is still a Commonwealth Realm.
There. All of that and not one reference to Homer Simpson's comment about "America junior."
The Architect: It is interesting reading your reactions. Your five predecessors were by design based on a similar predication, a contingent affirmation that was meant to create a profound attachment to the rest of your species, facilitating the function of the one. While the others experienced this in a very general way, your experience is far more specific. Vis-a-vis, love.
Reading through this made me realize that everyone is not really getting it...
These "cables" that we are using to connect devices are really just noodly appendages. Before you can truly understand how these noodly appendages work, you must embrace the FSM, and make Him a part of your life.
One problem I see with this already is that I have multiple accounts at multiple banks. Yes, there is one account that I can claim as my "primary," since may pay check is deposited there, but I don't want that associated with my driver's license.
I can see trying to decrease the number of cards in your wallet as good for individuals*, and bypassing Visa and MasterCard's fees** good for businesses, but is this really a good idea for the average consumer, already prone to identity theft?
Since the focus of this article is on gas stations, I would rather see gas stations go back to the two different prices for cash and credit. I'm usually not in so much of a hurry that I can't take a minute or two out of my day to walk into the gas station to talk to another human being (IRL, LOL) while paying for my gas (with cash). Heck, I might even pick up a drink or snack.
* Do you really need to carry all of your cards all the time? I don't. ** Carry cash! Accepted more places than Visa!
Is listening in on a conversation connected by VOIP the same as listening in on a PSTN conversation, legally speaking?
But will it blend?
I feel your pain:

Point-by-point rebuttal, not a flame.

I'm already working on a prototype with my with my wife.
Since I was in a hurry to get the program going, I did away with the delays associated with construction by using my body's own imaging capabilities.
I was going to send a link to the pictures, but she deleted them from the camera before I could upload them...
Now to find a few more test subjects...

Seems that, while it may be the proper term, "pentagonal" isn't in the majority lexicon.
There is a difference in posting for the sake of posting, and actually providing something to the conversation.
