So what are the other search providers doing? Complying with French law or ignoring it? Believe it or not, Google is not the only search provider on the Internet. If others are complying, are they wrong to do so? Or are they right?

  4. Batteries in Cold Weather? on Are We Reaching the Electric Car Tipping Point? · · Score: 1

I'm not driving an EV during a snow storm at night..... The draw from the headlights, defroster and wipers and the batteries being weakened by the cold? EVs are fine for warmer climates, but nor the cold.

  5. Coloring outside the lines? on Even the "Idea Person" Should Learn How To Code · · Score: 1

Learning to code may limit what the "idea person" thinks is achievable. It teaches to "color inside the lines". An "idea person" should challenge coders, not accept limitations taught in school.

Because we joined the UN as a permanent member of the security council. It's our job to protect the rights of foreign people from human rights violations.

I mean I suppose we could resign from our position, supposing you like the idea of China and Russia being in charge the security council.

Then it would be up to UN Forces, *not* US Forces to enforce any UN actions.

Surprisingly smartphones have not been around forever and little Johnny & Sally still managed to make it thru daycare okay. If there's an EMERGENCY, outsiders can call your employer's main number and ask for you. You get paid to work, not deal with personal matters.

When I made the move from worker bee to director all I did was ditch the tee shirts for (mostly vendor-supplied or company) golf shirts and made sure to have a denim overshirt or corduroy sportcoat handy for improtu meetings w/ CxO-level mtgs. Levis 501s and sneakers were still mandatory for geek cred.

  24. Homeland Security! on Whose Cameras Are Watching New York Roads? · · Score: 5, Interesting

Homeland Security agressively patrols that area since it borders Canada and has a international crossing at Cornwall. I've been stopped at road blocks hosted jointly by NYS Police & Homeland Security. The State Police stayed in the background while my car was singled out by Homeland Security for a walk-around sniff by their dog and an uncomfortable amount of questioning. I'm an old Unix admin who does not resemble a terrorist in the slightest. Also worth noting that that St. Regis Native American Reservation sits on both sides of the border there. Perhaps someone is trying to keep tabs on them??
