I disagree. The culture might be different but the first time Europeans encountered Americans Indians there was drastic shock and misunderstanding. Egyptians weren't old architects, they enslaved thousands if not millions of people. What make us "human" is the ability to relate to one another. We still hate and love and kill and create life the same way the people 5000 years ago did. In 25 years, we will do the same just with bigger toys and a little bit longer life span. These authors make for great Sci-fi. I have read Cory Doctorow and Charles Stross. They paint an interesting picture of the future but I think it just is not realistic. We as humans will never escape our "Humanity".

I think a better example would be Company X owns a road they charge a toll. The Toll road gets you to where you want to faster but you have to pay for it. It does not discrimiate for or against Fedex compared to UPS because it makes money off both. If UPS finds a better way to get there then it does not pay the toll. There has got to be a balance between net neutrality and non net neutrality find it out is the hard part.
I have the lowest tier of DSL from verizon, I pay 14.95 for 768/256. I just moved to DC area from SC and that is amazing compared to the prices and packages that Bellsouth offers.(I was paying 25 for 256/128) If I download a well supported torrent I get about 84KB/s so I am happy with that. There has got to be a good way of balancing Net Neutrality and getting more vendors in more areas so they can compete with each other. If someone wants to pay for the toll road that is fine as long as I can get to my sites the same as before.
You have a point, I guess I was just getting reactionary. I think we get alot of oil from Canada. I just don't want to be hijacked and getting oil from Venezuela at least, I don't think is any better. There has to be an option out there. We do need to invest in get oil out of ANWR and the gulf. Even if it takes a while we have that option and it will give up leverage against other suppliers. The one thing I think ppl don't understand is how much oil China and India now consume as opposed to just 10-15 years ago and it is going to get worst as China grows so something proactive needs to done on the oil side for the short term and X for the long term. Only time will tell, but I think this bill is a small but good investment.
Just because the Government "subsidises virtually every industry" already does not mean I want their hands in another cookie jar. Of all the countries in the world, Our government does the least subsidising of industries. Let the free maket decide, if gas goes up naturely( by lack of supply or whatever), then industry will have to adapter to consumers needs, taxes don't really work when it some to spurring technological change.
I think this is a good idea, but in the end the H2 has to come from some where and Nuclear power is the only real answer. I just love to hear about the genuis's that build a town around driving around in Electric Golf cart so they don't have to have cars, but the forget that the whole town gets their power from the Coal plant down the road. If we did not have the 70s/80s scare tactics about Nuclear power, the power grid would be better and we could make a conversion to Hydrogen easier. I really have no true love for Nuclear power but it is the better option to get away from foreign oil. Personally I think getting away from foreign oil, whether it be with ANWAR or alternative energy, is the best for this country. OPEC could destroy this country in one move and that has nothing to do with Oil companies gouging us.

The way I see it, if the Bluray drive is worth 200$ then that puts the two systems on even footing at 299 and 399. Both Xbox360s do not have a HDMI port, but you can get a cable from third party vendors, I don't know about first party. I am sure that sony will do the same so as not to cripple the Bluray player. I think that sony will sell out there supply within the first 5 months. 6mill/~5months. launching it in Japan a week earlier will get them off to a good start and might encourage sales in the US. I hope that Nintendo has a solid plan outside of the controller my wife and I always love playing the group/family games than any of the other systems. Right now we will just stick with WoW at least through the expansion that takes up so much time we haven'y played any console in awhile. I think it would be good if all three companies did well in the market, in the end it would force them to lower prices and make some great games.
I think the true gauge of the battle will be Holiday season 2007, all three systems should be in full swing and picture will be a lot clearer.
One question do the EA games for the 360 have the "footwork" stuff, all I remember about the 360 launch was the sweat on the guys faces?
That is exactly what I feel, It just amazed me that the Wachowski built a whole highway to do the car chase in Reloaded. Doku(the actor) is 60-some years old I don't believe for one instance that he could pull off that CGI flip at the begining of III.
If you check out IMDB, Lucas just came up with the Story, which he is good at, for V and VI. I think IV is the weakest of the orginal three but it was so revolutionary that people look past the flaws. V and VI were directed and Written(screeplay) by different people that did not happen with I,II,III. Lucas is just terrible at writing dialog. V and VI maybe a little cheese but Han is just so funny. The story and dialog was just all messed up in I,II,III that I think I liked the Matrix Trilogy better, but that is just me. Way to much CGI, Matrix and LotR trilogies did a better job of combining CGI with real sets, How do you interact with something that is not there or when you are just talking to someone in front of Green screen and have no context/environment to act in.

And that is the wonder of the American/Capitalism system, If Walmart was truly screwing everyone then people would not go there. The basic lower middle-class family loves walmart because it saves them so much money, if they shop correctly. I personally like being able to go to Walmart get a 1/2 Gallon of Milk(Organic), a quart of Oil and a t-shirt or PS2 game. It saves me time and money. Their product is not very good but you get what you pay for if you don't like it go somewhere else(which is what my wife does.) Walmart/Best Buy forces business to specialize in something to succeed. I worked at a computer shop last spring for about 9 months. There is no way we can compete with Best Buy/Dell/HP on Computer Builds as opposed to the late 90s when it cost $2100 to make a PC, but now it has turned into a service industry, especially with the advent of SPYware. Dell and Best Buy actually send us customers. Dell buy making crappy computer with propriety parts and Best Buy sends them to us directly because they don't work on those kinds of issues.

I have no idea where you live but here in South Carolina(The South, hahaha), the weather has been nothing but nasty hot and humid in the summer and mildly cold in the winter. The only odd thing that happened was from 2001-2004 it never broke a 100F in the summer but then in 05 it did. That just proves that anecdotal evidence is not worth a darn. I think that is one thing that he (RICHARD LINDZEN) is saying that we truly don't understand the system in which we live in.
I don't deny that Global Warming is happenning but the question is Why? The earth is so complex to say that we understand and that we could cause the earth's temperature to be raised in about 25 years is very arogant. Who knows what the weather is going to be like next winter let alone in 30 years from now. The brup of a volcano puts more pollutants in the air than all the coal plants in North America for a year. I am not against being proactive in gaining indepentance from Oil but for different reasons. Hydrogen fuel cells maybe great but the hydrogen has to come from somewhere ie Nuclear power. If people(everyone) was not afraid of nuclear power starting in the seventies(ie China Syndrome), I think the power grid and ultimately the dependence on oil would not have happened or be as bad as it is and we would be able to convert to hydrogen easier. But as a caveat, nuclear power is not the end all be all.
Yeah I was going to say that. I guess video game ratings are more equivalent to renting or buying DVDs as opposed to going to a movie. I just think that today we have gotten so use to movie ratings and that eventually it will happen to video games.
I would like to see a equal study about kids watching/renting/buying R rated movies. M-rated games = R-rated movies, AO games = NC-17 movies. You can't take your kid into a NC-17 movie but you can to a R-rated one. I don't know how this applies to video games, I guess your child would not be able to purchase the game even if you are there.
I agree, but the people who run for office should be solely responsible for the ads that are run by/for them, then we don't have to worry about campaigns leaking stuff to the third party supporters.
The greatest problem with McCain-FeinGold is that it absolves the Candidate of responsibility for the actions of Third party groups "George Soros" and "The Swiftboat Vets". If all money is given to the candidate, he/she would be responsible to the public for the action of the ads that are run. A candidate would be a lot "less" likely to run a negative ad that is tied directly to their campaign. I like the idea of companies being only able to come out and say "I am for this idea X", but there are always holes.
There are two very easy ways to get around the windows genuine software. The best one I have seen was: after a failed atemped at updating windows, go into IE and turn off the Genuine Software plugin, after that you should be able to update windows or just change a dll out. Whether it will work on a mac is a different issue.
I agree with you completely. I was trying to look at it from a positive light: Playing a game that you enjoy, maybe making some money from it. The company also makes more money from the services they render to others. It would be neat to see if someone could pull that off. If you could there is a lot of dough out there.
I agree with you. I think some better questions are: Is it morally reprehensible for companies to rig the game so that you are doing something financially productive for them besides paying them to create the game. The ideal situation would be players pay company X to play game X. Company X has the players doing something X that they can sell to people/company Y. Company X pays players that meet specific goals. Everyone wants to love their "job" so isn't it the best situation if one could get pay to play a game that they enjoy.

I have a couple of question? To my knowledge the M2 AMDs are just the old 939s with the DDR controller changed to a DDR2 controller, so unless there is a massive improvement in memory management they can improve that much. I think the big change is going to happen when 1206 LGA comes out. I don't have any idea how much putting the PCIe bus in the processor will do but is got to be great for games. I don't understand why they had to do the 940 socket again they should have just jumped to 1206 but I guess they could not get that out in time. Does anyone know when the 1206 is supposed to come out? I think the Opteron is supposed to come early then the Athlon 64.
I need to upgrade my machine I am still running a socket A but at least it runs WoW. I will probably get a 939 when the 940 comes, hopefully that will be cheaper.
System on a chip or at least integrated GPU and CPU cool.
