Despite being the creator of the second most popular desktop OS, they don't compete in the "desktop OS" market because they refuse to sell their OS to other hardware OEMs (like Dell). They refuse to do this, because the desktop OS market is broken and they can't make money there and only by bundling can they make money.

Yes, Microsoft is a $14 billion / quarter believer of your broken OS market theory.

So MS should ask people like you (an avid Apple user, who even blogs with 'iBlog') about how to design their Mp3 player. Why? It's not like you will EVER even consider buying an MS Mp3 player. Why? There's already an iPod and a lot of people (like YOU) love it and won't convert to anything else. So why make another 'iPod'. I say it's good to be different. Screw the scroll wheel. Sure the Zune has it's shortcomings, but so does the iPod. To each his own.

The big names you put forth make up perhaps less than 1 percent of the outsourced man-power in India. People here are are complaining against the quality of the CS / general development work that is being sent to India in massive numbers, which one would be foolish not to label as subpar. So again, the R&D work done in India, although getting much press, is insignificant.

"Preloading" here doesn't mean there gonna load their Mp3 Players with "goodies" like those promised used iPods from eBay. Instead, it means that you will be able to by a bunch of songs along with your Amazon Mp3 Player that will be loaded on to the player prior to delivery. And I am sure this would be a introductory special offer, like by an Amazon Mp3 Player and get 50 free songs (or 25; or 100!)

Oh, and before you go on and bash this service to be "loaded with DRM bullshit", please tell how exactly is Apple's service WITHOUT any DRM? And isn't it true that with every iTunes update Apple keeps adding more and more restrictions to how you can use YOUR OWN MUSIC!

I for one, welcome our new South American Jungle Mp3 Cartel Overloads...

The article mostly talks about the telcos trying to offer Video services at a "premium" to subscribers, not much else. This way they can take a huge chunk of the next-gen Video-over-IP market, by having better quality videos (and most likely live video feeds) over their network. How they would stop video.google.com if Google decides to up the ante and offer H.264 quality videos is beyong me... that would probably be illegal.

So basically they are asking Congress to let them bundle a Video & Internet in one package sans the legal troubles. In my opinion, Verizon (a TELCO) is already doing something like that with their FiOS service (Broadband + Video), although in limited areas.

Do you research first pal. During the UN Press conference they specifically mentioned that they have developed a modified low-powered version of the LCD screen used in portable DVD players. They expect them to cost around $30-$35. And they are definitely not talking about 10k orders, they are talking about 100k orders. And what makes you think you can do a remotely correct cost-analysis for a project of this scale???

Also, nothing broke during the conference, and I saw the whole thing. Only that the screen and base where not hinged together and powered through external cables, which looked liked a broken laptop.
