  1. Parents on Parents 'ignore game age ratings' · · Score: 1

How many parents even care about their kids these days? I mean really care? Yeah, they'll buy them clothes and drive them to soccer practice and whatnot, but they dont know shit about their kids' lives.

Hell, people dont even descipline their kids anymore. When I was a kid, my parents signed a waver to allow teachers to spank me in school when I was being a shit. When I was being a shit at home, I got spanked, too. Good luck doing either today, you'll have a damn kid sueing his parents or the neighbors calling the police.

It doesnt "take a village", it takes parents doing their job to raise a kid. If parents give two shits about their kids, they will place restrictions on what they can do, and monitor their compliance. "Oh, Johnny will just play GTA at Billy's house." Well crap, call Billy's mom or dad and tell them that you dont allow your child to play that stuff and that if they see it they need to send Johnny home and give me a ring on the phone.

My point: Parents have been neutered over the years and the will to care has been beaten out of those who actually cared in the first place. Parents, do your job despite that.

Really, did you ever truly believe that MS embraced the hobbyist with the original xbox?

This tactic not only provides them with more money, but it has a neat side-effect where it creates another hurdle for hobbyists and pirates to have to jump over (or perhaps its the other way around).

They do not want anyone hacking their console for any reason.

Perhaps in the case of the gaming industry, $2Billion refers to how much money they spend making games. Spouting "$2Billion" everywhere is certainly a lot more attractive than talk of Midway, Atari, and other companies that invented video games dieing slow and horrible deaths and then clawing their way out of the grave only to die again...

That would put the Fear of God in companies violating the license. A large company tries some crazy shit and ends up getting utterly devastated by the end while finally solidifying the legal validity of the GPL.

  10. Re:Sequels on More Products From the Sequel Factory · · Score: 1

Well that is certainly true, but as you pointed out, some things shouldnt change.
Zelda 3d games control the same, Mario 3d games control the same. Those are things that probably couldnt really be improved -the games were quite different from their predecessors, though.

Mario had the water pack that changed the way one plays a Mario game, and Wind Waker had the new graphics (albeit not a change in gameplay, but the way even some Zelda fans reacted you would think they turned zelda into a GTA-clone).

  16. ...larger launch library... on Sony May Delay PS3 Until 2007 · · Score: 5, Insightful

Yes, because the launch library matters.

    Wait, no it doesnt.
The PS2 had a bunch of crap right out of the gate. The leader of the pack was a mediocre snowboarding game that was propelled to stardom by the fact that it was one of the very few games worth owning at the time.

Yeah, the xbox had Halo at launch, but that didnt matter either. They could have released it at any time and still garnered the same results (a lot of sold hardware).

The Gamecube had one outstanding game (Rogue Leader) at launch, and then THREE MONTHS OF NOTHING until Super Smash Bros Melee, and the console continues to be #2 worldwide.

Two crappy launches (in regards to titles) and those are beating out a wildly successful launch in the long run.

Now, if the consoles launch at the same time it matters... Or at least one would think so. The cube's poor launch was within days of the xbox's great one (again, in regards to games only), and they are in a dead heat now.

So I guess my point is: "Analyst" speculation is less than worthless, and history reveals that supposedly obvious things make no sense at all.

Quit posting what amounts to random guessing about the ps3 and 360. We dont see a story every time a new fake Revolution controller pic hits the net, so why do we still get this crap?

Not to say the PSP is going to fall into oblivion like the Game Gear, Lynx, NGPC, Wonderswan, GP32, etc... (Sony will not let it), but Nintendo has taken on better hardware for years and released products when they saw fit (when the market was saturated).

When the GBA stops selling, then Nintendo will give us a new one.

Though if the 360 has any kind of Halo at launch; even a Halo text adventure by Infocom (like it matters, people will think it's innovation), then they have a good chance at getting nearly their entire original Xbox customer base back.
