WTF? I mean seriously, I thought this was a *news* site. I've been a game reviewer for over 4 years, if I wanted game reviews I would go to a game review site, not to "Zonk" on/.
I find Zonk's abilities lacking and suggest you give up the attempts at reviewing games or go to a game review site and get a job. I am so sick and tired of Zonk and his bullshit around here I seriously am thining of ditching Slashdot altogether. After many years of faithful readership, I'm pretty much done. Zonk has been a plague on this site and no one is listening to the massive outrage at his abilities. It is quite apparent no one is running this ship, and if they are they are running it pretty loosely... too loosely for my tastes.
His "news" is always either a dupe, speculation, blatantly false, or tied to his game-reviewer-wannabe delusions. Zonk you are a disgrace.
HEHE, that line stopped me dead too. Umm, it didn't slip under anyone's radar (ugh, poor stealth pun) it was pure hollywood CRAP. People stayed away like it was a west nile virus infected mosquito, not because they were not aware of it... but because it was inanely stupid.
I wish Hollywood and the music industry, and the videogame industry to some extent would implode. If people could get their priorities straight and stop feeding money to these manufactured, shallow, and blatant rip-offs things could get back to some balance. I mean is no one else infuriated at the fact that most of these "artists" can't even spell their own name but own 47 house, a leer jet, and have millions in the bank? We celebrate idiots in America, and we idolize them, and we place them on a pedestal for all the world to see how fuckin stupid we are to propel these people into untold riches and fame.
I really wish I could do something to upset this balance and get things back into some realm of normalcy.
Exactly, some useful stress testing like putting it in your back pocket and sitting on it multiple times on multiple surfaces would be useful.
Hell, there are so many "normal use" scenarios that COULD have been done to add some value. I actually find that form of "hey, lets break this brand new gadget that many people would love to have but couldn't afford and in a blatantly useless manner 'cuz we got them free" mentality to be disgusting.
Do some normal stress testing for the review and give away the still-working but a little worse for wear unit to a lucky reader.
I love when people do dumb shit. Nothing is funnier.
I once watched a guy claim his new 4WD Subaru could climb up a huge dirt pile. So he did it to prove it, problem was once on the crest of a pile of soft dirt your tires sink in and your screwed. He had to pay the people who had the dirt pile to dig out dirt around it slowly so it eventually could be driven out.
I also watched a guy at an airport with one of those Panasonic Toughbooks stand on top of it (while closed) to impress a woman at the airport bar (way to get chicks) and then he opened the display and turned it on to reveal a nicely mangled LCD panel. Even the bartender laughed his ass off.
Word. Except the educational value of running things over with a car repeatedly is questionable.
When I was 4 my family found me surrounded by a dismantled desktop police scanner of my grandmothers with a screwdriver in hand. Everyone was pretty pissed I guess too, but I was quickly forgiven when I put it back together and it worked fine. I think most geeks have this nature, it's what makes us who we are.
Just this past weekend my dad brought up a story about how when I was about 5 or so we sat together for a whole day building a model airplane. Not two seconds after gluing the last piece on I picked it up and threw it like a paper airplane and it smashed into a million pieces. When asked, "I was testing if it really flew." He was too confused to figure out which emotion to have about it, sad because a whole day's project was ruined in seconds, upset at me for doing something dumb, or semi-impressed because I had a fairly logical thought behind my action.
Yeah, RUNNING SHIT OVER WITH A CAR helps us understand a whole bunch of new things that otherwise would have gone unknown. Damn am I dumb, how could I have overlooked that!
So, basically, to sum it up. We've created a whole bunch of advanced shit to take apart and more advanced shit to *use* to take the advanced shit apart... all while being comfortable.
The Discovery channel showing reruns of people building motorcycles?!? or catching crabs? Bah! You're crazy!
Honestly I used to love watching Discovery and actually *gasp* discovering shit! Now it is about as informitive as a monkey on a trycicle with two cymbals.
America is fat, stupid, and lazy. Everything is watered down to such idiot levels that no one knows a damn thing anymore, and they are proud of it!
My fiance is an elementary school teacher, they don't even teach science or history anymore. They simply groom the kids for the test at the end of the year (Math and Reading) so that the do well and the school continues to get funding. What bullshit!
Kids today are morons. I truly would love to see a massive cleansing take place in America. Between Cell-phones, lack of education, and fast-food... I would love to see a lot of them disappear. I have no faith in where this country will be in just 10 years let alone 20 or so when they begin to run it. And it isn't about politics either, I don't care who's side you're on they are splitting this country and ruining it from all sides.
I may have a bleak outlook, but it's my opinion and I don't think it's illegal to have one of those... yet.
Seriously, I find it funny how as soon as we get some new piece of technology our first instinct is to break it. Honestly think about it. I can't tell you how many things I can't wait to take apart as soon as I buy it. There has to be somehting unhealthy about this.
Give somehting new and unknown to a bunch of apes and the first thing they do is smash it or rip it apart inquisitively.
It will see a Revolution release. Game dev's/Publishers are actually not releasing information on cross-platform releases with the Revolution included. I believe it is because of the projected release schedule for the console. I do know of about 3 cross-platform titles so far that will release on all three systems but the publishers are only listing PS3/360 in press releases.
I will do my best to contact one of them (I am a member of the media) and ask what the true answer to this question is, because until you brought it up I never even gave it much thought. I'll try to post a followup reply with any info I can get, I think it is a great question.
Well stated. Mirror's my initial reaction. As if anyone is going to go out and purchase a Media Center Edition PC just to be able to use any of the extra features of the 360. Puh-Lease!
I hope this bastard tanks so hard, and I actually wouldn't mind seeing the PS3 go down with it. These ignorant fucks think they have everything sewn up and that these "next-gen" consoles are so in demand... I can't wait to watch Nintendo and Mario laugh all the way to the bank on this round.
Tengen originally was unlicensed, but became a licensed developer eventually. There were acually a number of unlicensed NES developers and carts, the poster has no idea of what he speaks. Nintendo's licensing was mainly a QUALITY ASSURANCE. It degenerated in the later years but it served its purpose quite well.
I'm well aware of how to do this, but that doesn't come close to touching on the real problem. There can't be anyone on/. who ENJOY Zonk's postings. Either they are dupes, slashvertisement, or just inane or outright unfactual postings... how can any website that accepts PAYMENT for quicker access to this crap not take a stance on this?
All that needs to be done is reign him in and school him in some basics and he could be OK, I'm not asking for his head on a platter (although I would accept it, and relish in drinking his warm blood)... seriously this is out of hand and needs to be fixed.

There is much more to news than the end of this or that, or the obligitory post about one console, then another, then the other all in one day even if nothing new is said about the second two. Just tell the big story. You don't post 12 news articles about other topics just to make sure you tell every side, it is lunacy.
Seriously something needs to be done. Zonk needs to be given his pink-slip and/. needs to get back to NEWS! I have never watched a big site implode so quickly and at the hands of one or two people in my life. A true shame.
yeah, this is Slashdot alight. Where hypocritical bastards such as yourself are behind the little guy and the companies who stand for innovation and creativity... but then back huge corporate scumbags who shovel as much DRM, Anti-everything, Restrictions, Region Specific code, Price gouging, non-competitive, non-innovative, hallywood-like crap by the ton.
Sony was nothing more than sour grapes over Nintendo's decision not to purchase the technology, and their attempt to beat them by brute force and numbers over quality and innovation.
Enter MS: Who threw together the most poorly cobbled together console ever with only one goal of knocking off Sony. Would they accomplish this through innovation, and bringing something new to the industry? NO. They would hash out crap-ass safe titles that have no innovation, soul, or much beyond flashier graphics.
Now you have Nintendo. A company who started life as a playing card manufacturer! They have innovated and continually re-birthed themselves by sticking to low cost, extreme high quality, innovation at all costs, and now the ability to play long forgotten gems, reaching out to the small/indi developer, innovating the controller (which others would be happy to ride the status quo forever with), and doing it all while being completely open and honest! *Gasp* This sounds like they value a lot of the same things as *I* do and most everyone here does, now doesn't it?
So take your garbage elsewhere. I've been so happy that at least one company in this round has had the stones to stick to their guns and try to right this overturned applecart of the videogame industry.
Exactly, this is part of what I was alluding to. They have basically already stated that they are courting small/indie publishers and will make it viable even for a single person. This is great news and should really be a boon to the system and to the industry as a whole.
The other key aspects are the return to a simpler/userfriendly controller which will ensure massive audiences and market for these smaller dev's to shoot for. The lower system costs. The fairly standard platform (we know it will be the same as the GC, just beefier, and that was a great platform to program for.) Nintendo's (modern) toolsets are always head and shoulders above Sony and MS'.
I think most/.'ers are going to be loving the Revolution if they even just get a few of these things right. I mean, I could honestly care less who the company is, if they can offer me this level of access with the quoted features, Nintendo is my new friend. And actually probably will gain them a fanatical following of quite a diverse audience. Something Sony and MS can never dream of with their narrow demographic that keeps narrowing by the day.
Publishers pass on most of the creatie and unique titles in favor of "safe" ones. I've been on this side of the industry and it really begins to piss you off when you see great, innovative project after project get scrapped or turned away time and time again from publishers. It is so frustrating.
The next-gen 360 and PS3 aren't going to help matters either. The development costs and efforts are going to be big risk and no one is going to stray much from the center. This is a loss for all gamers everywhere.
I get bashed for saying it, but these two consoles need to fail and fail big. If they are massive successes the game industry is going to become even more fractured and broken. They are doing nothing but perpetuating the core problem of the industry, and amazingly making it worse.
I am hoping Nintendo can buck the trend, not out of fanboyism or love for Nintendo, because I would say the same of any company that was taking their stance in this new console war.
Umm, I figured the sarcasm was implied without any further clarification. Guess I was wrong. I don't think anyone has ever used s3 ViRGE and pwnage in the same sentence and meant it.
I actually was quite poor and had a S3 4mb VRAM ViRGE back in '95 or so. It was actually pretty easy. You could buy the 2MB version and it had two more VRAM spots that you just popped 2 more MB into. I then bought a junk S3 card with 2 MB and put them in, viola! instant 4MB s3 ViRGE of pure pwnage.
I by no means claim the S3 + Cyrix 686 to be the bee's knees but I actually fondly remember my cyrix 166+ with a S3 ViRGE. I was able to pay about 1/4th the cost of a similar Pentium I and run all of the latest apps and games like Delta Force with no issues.
S3 got a bad name, but I actually never quite saw why. Same with Cyrix. Cyrix processors ran very comparable to Intel and AMD, and there really were no major 3D accelerators at the time.
I liked my Cyrix + S3 setup, and will gladly defend it.

For example Donkey Konga 2 is priced at $34.95 NEW all the time compared to most placed $49.99-$59.99 and most players choice titles are $10 used.
The big thing is that they take any game, movie, or CD in trade and they pay cash which is very close to the trade value, unlike EB/Gstop. I traded in old PS1 games, DC games, and received a ton of store credit and EB/Gstop don't even accept them at all.
