    In some formations, you do have to avoid things that are good food for bacteria, because the bacteria will then produce H2S as a waste product, which is bad for both the steel casing and creatures that like to breathe oxygen.

    For both parent and GP, you can visit fracfocus.org for a record of what was pumped in each well and at what volumes. There aren't a whole lot of trade secrets in the wells I have submitted, though I will admit there are some.

    The price is a bit deceptive. They don't sell it by the pint - the cups are about half-size. Still significantly cheaper though. The bartenders are all volunteers, working for free beer.

    Depends on what state you're in and when you got it. When I got my Texas DL, it was possible to obtain one without being here legally. That has since changed, but it's not like they went back and checked all the previously issued ones.

    Depends on your definition of flood-prone, I suppose. We have flood insurance despite being above the 100 yr flood plain (by less than a foot). Once you're outside that mark, it's like $150/year. Hard to argue against it at that price.

    I have lived in both countries. There is more freedom in Germany than in the US of A. Like drinking beer in public, having sex at 14, saying "shit" in public, being naked in public, not getting sued for everything and anything, being free of religion. That "Land of the free" BS is part of your indoctrination.

    Umm... It's perfectly legal in the US to have sex at 14. What will get you in trouble is having sex with a 14yo, provided you are over the age of 16 or so, with the exact age gap varying by state.

    The problem is that the laws against and about fraccing will do nothing to stop shoddy cement jobs, which, by the way, is just as possible on a well that flows naturally. If you want to stop shoddy cement jobs, you'd do a much better job of it by, I don't know, regulating cementing better? Crazy, I know.

    Yes, but if you can live long enough to keep your kid from dying at 15 while he's still showing off trying to get laid, then you've helped to pass on your genes further. If you can watch your grandbabies while your kid is out hunting, you've helped to pass on your genes further.     Did you miss the part where GP said his advice was relevant to being in the passenger seat with an unresponsive driver? Granted, seems to me the first step in that case is grab his leg and yank it off the accelerator, but you'll have a real hard time getting his foot on the brake.

    My company is the exact opposite. Firefox is not allowed (although I know quite a few folks with the portable version), but Chrome has just become available if requested. Apparently it's something to do with the automatic updates in Firefox vs being able to specifically push updates in Chrome - I don't know exactly since I'm not IT.

    If you've grown past the number of machines that you can keep in a spreadsheet, why does replacement of a machine mean upgrading the operating system? Seems far easier to me to keep using the same image.

    $375 would be nice. I fly Houston to Shreveport occasionally when my schedule won't allow daylight hours to drive. Approximately 1 hour trip on a prop plane most days for the low, low price of $747 no matter whether you book 3 months in advance or day of.

    It's not intended for that purpose, but the countdown for the crosswalk can be used to time the light for a car as well. I always use that when it's available.

    How does the world look to people with bad vision? Blurry, mostly. More specifically, though, the most obvious change for me when I got glasses for the first time was realizing that kids draw trees with one green blob at the top for simplicity's sake.     The payroll tax reduction was fancy math. The total funding for Social Security was not affected, as the missing 2% was reimbursed by the general budget. You can argue that gov't IOUs don't mean much, but if you're doing that, then we're so screwed already the 2% didn't affect anything anyway.

    I'm quite aware of how to do a cement pressure test. If you'll note, I even said they pressure test. However, that pressure test will only tell you if the shoe holds. It won't tell you whether or not you have a microannulus behind the casing that you could hook up with after perforating.

    I am aware of 14 distinct chemical tracers and 3 radioactive tracers in active use. Of course, there may be restrictions on what tracers could be used if the purpose was to be detected in a freshwater aquifer.

    The pressure it takes to pump into the well should tell you how far down you're pumping. Additionally, the pipe is pressure tested prior to shooting holes at the desired depths. Really, that's not the difficult parts. The problem you're thinking of would more likely occur via water channeling back up the outside of the pipe due to improper cement placement. That one's a bit more difficult to prove. The easiest way would be radioactive tracers, although I don't see that flying with the environmental crowd. You might be able to use a temperature log, but it would be hard to distinguish between different causes.

    I'm glad I'm not the only one. If I get a call after hours, I know it's because somebody was on the scene and couldn't fix it, so had to escalate it. That means it's not a small problem, and it needs to be solved now. I'm salary, yeah, so I don't get explicitly paid for that, but making six figures at 25, I figure it's kinda built in. A salary compensates for all the work you do. If it's not high enough, change it, but that doesn't explicitly mean you deserve overtime at the same rate. Maybe the company came up with that salary figuring in extra hours.

    Might as well shut it all down. You'd have the same effect. The friction effects of pure water at the rates most jobs are pumped at in the Haynesville would take our surface pressure from 12,000 psi to about 60,000 psi.
