CHOOSING to shop at wal-mart, eat at McDonalds or believe in a mythical superbeing?
Sometimes there is no choice, the town has one WalMart and the rest of the small businesses go under leaving you no choice in where to buy -or- you must travel far away to go to a small independent shop.
Greed is the driving factor among everything these days, the competition is brutal and the labor is cheap....is this a lefty view? or just a rational one?

So not only are the famous writers and bold journalists in danger; at every level of public and private life, the freedoms to think, read or write are denied. In the absence of a free press, other human rights abuses flourish unabated. Nothing is reported, criticized, questioned. The example of imprisonment, torture or execution imposes a further silence. Somehow they need to determine how to detect a spoofed packet/phony TCPIP headers, maybe they need to hire some of these hackers to work for MS?

  4. Sanction China for pirating? on Bush Signs Law Targeting P2P Pirates · · Score: 1

My friend who is Chinese tells me you can get any DVD you want on the street in China, even some movies before they even come out in the US. So does this mean that we impose sanctions on China for pirating American movies? Or do we only prosecute those that can not retaliate by threatening to cut off an endless supply of cheap labor?
Movie theater profits go up every year so I don't see the justification of this legislation, maybe they will start taking away DVD copiers and any other means to capture an image (VHS) that is copyrighted in order to solve this problem?
This article says the net profit margins on DVD sales are 50-60%, while the lingering VHS business sees 20-30% net profit. To put this into plain English, your average $20 DVD apparent costs around $9 to produce, advertise, distribute, etc., leaving about $11 on top as pure profit. For an industry supposedly under dire threat from piracy, things look pretty rosy.

  6. Sounds great, get it out there! on Rave Reviews for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger · · Score: 4, Interesting

Apple, now raking in profits from its iPod, should seriously consider lowering their prices on their high-end machines to gain market share. Currently APPL is trading at $36.35 +0.40 (1.11%) a share and the stock has gone up consistenty since 2003 when it was around $10 a share. Now is the time for them to make some moves.
If Tiger indeed blows away XP, so they should try to advertise it more, get it out to as many people as possible in order to increase their popularity and inspire more people to use and develop Apple software. If everyone had a better alternative to Windows for say just a fraction more in price, people would start buying it. The iPod has already convinced people Apple is a good brand, all they need is a price incentive to switch to Apple PCs.

Tell everyone about how great the new product is, then find out it just isn't as easy to implement by the release date. They are going to put attestation, sealed storage, process isolation, and secure in/output in Longhorn? It sounds like a good idea but, is this possible to do by 2007?

On Mars, it has to blow at about 30 meters, or 98 feet, per second because the planet's atmosphere is extremely thin." I am wondering if the upper atmosphere is in constant motion? Also how to repair it if it breaks or burns out, they would have to have some replacement parts or an easy way to fix it.

Okay that means that DirecTV has (3x36) / (13.9) = 7.77% of the market. I wonder how much that will increase with this new HD satellite? I don't know if the price for DirecTV will go down, but I will assume it will temporarily so they can increase their market share.

Star Wars was/is a great idea, but the Empire Strikes Back was the best movie of the series in my opinion. It was directed by Irvin Kershner, screenplay written with Lawrence Kasdan and produced by Gary Kurtz, Lucas had a lot of creative help in making that film which turned out to be wonderful.
To reinvent oneself, you have to create yourself in the first place. Star Wars was a culmination of his story ideas with actors and movie techniques that have never been seen before. This is the key to its success.
Unfortunately, time and time again when directors/actors/musicians get older and have kids, their creativity is geared toward kid-friendly productions that their own kids can watch or sing along with them. This G-rated kid-friendly mindset sometimes kills creativity. He needs to get back to his 1970s mindset where he had to create something that has never been seen/done/heard of before - and not worry about what his audience thinks. (easier said than done) The upcoming 3D Star Wars is a start, but it is still cashing in on an old idea. Anyway, good luck George!

AOL profits from these spammers and they know it. Very soon, AOL needs to take control of their spammers and start blocking them. Apparently, this is either too difficult & time consuming for AOL, or they just don't care and know that the profits will just keep rolling in.
There are so many other better alternatives to AOL, I don't even know why people use AOL in the first place. I guess it is all those damn install cds they dump all over the place like rabbit poop.

That worked wonders for creating a more stable XP according to Bill Gates...."One thing that's been amazing at Microsoft is the impact that our monitoring data has had on how we prioritize our software work. I'm sure you've all seen in Windows XP that whenever an application or the system malfunctions, you get the ability to send a report back to Microsoft.
