You have no concept of what evil is. If the only evil affecting your life is the advertisement on a website, you're too comfortable.
Besides, these ads do NOT autoplay. Stop complaining about the bandwidth and such when YOU KNOW it's not true. I swear, slashdotters will look straight past the facts if they have an opportunity to complain.
I agree, it is easy to copy and paste, and with the proliferation of blogs, on-line stories, etc., realizing and detecting inversely proportionately becomes harder.
What makes this issue so difficult to address, and so difficult to write about, is that it's not so much about gray blogs, but rather, various shades of grey blogs. The difference between someone simply quoting blogs and someone trying to tweak the system is not a clear cut matter, but a separation of degrees.
Quoting, even liberal quoting, is expected by blogs. It's a part of researching a story and covering ongoing stories as well as sharing information. If done properly, it can not only be used to create a new work, but also drive valuable traffic to the original site. In the blogging world, being the source is often a badge of honor.
It's fucking offensive that you would so closely connect homosexuality and the implications of blood-borne disease. Get with it. Among my friends, about half are of alternative sexualities. I happen to know more HETEROSEXUAL people with STDs than homosexuals/bisexuals.
Cut 'em off. Lets see if YOU want to have the internet without Google and a handful of other vital sites/services. Any hits from that ISP would be directed to a site explaining how their ISP is full of asshole cockjockeys who are too greedy to do their jobs properly.
Perhaps give 'em some alternative ISPs for their region using DSLReports.com?
I actually live in this tiny little nothing town. I can certainly vouch for the fact that it is run by a bunch of incompetent old fools. This is a town whose claim to fame is a college football quarterback who no longer plays. Its on our water tower.
Perhaps I should go down to city hall and make fun of him to his face? It could be amusing in the very least.
The OP is making social commentary. Our actions in Iraq are part of society. These bullshit charges are part of society. Just because you don't like the argument does not make the OP a troll.
Not true. We have actual videotape of Saddam saying, "while a country could not attack the US with bio weapons, an individual could, provided they were given the weapons.
And that statement is a fact. I've had discussions on the weaknesses of the U.S. infrastructure. Doesn't mean I'm going to attack it. Ample excuse for a FUCKING WAR? No.
As opposed the the millions of men, women and children that died as a result of us not going in there earlier. (UNICEF's numbers, not mine)
Nice accurate number. Millions. Guess what? We're killing people there. When we leave, people will keep killing people there. It's a social problem, and we've just made it worse.
I hate seeing these weak-ass counterarguments. "Hey, you don't like Bush?? Well.. CLINTON WAS A POOPYHEAD!"
Just because I might happen to dislike Bush's policies, behaviors, attitudes and reading level does NOT mean that I support the actions of another. In the real world, there is more than Republican OR Democrat.
Lets also mention the fact that Tipper may have done some stupid stuff, but she did it as a private citizen. Don't ya think that blaming Al for the actions of his wife is maybe a bit sexist and perhaps a little fucking stupid?
US viewers, check this out.. go to Google Video and search for "Iraq Explosion" Choose the 2nd result, "Night Explosion." If you're like me and every other US citizen I've given this to, you'll get the following error message :
I gotta say, it would seem that iDefense has always been willing to toss cash around a bit. I went to a party of theirs in Vegas once, and had a great time.
Pubs everywhere will install measures to circumvent such tracking, so that their customers would appear to be elsewhere or just be invisible any time they enter the establishment. They'd be filled with employees who are on extended lunches, "stuck" in traffic, or at a lengthy visit to a client.
I have never understood why people make such an issue of the toilet seat. If it's up when you arrive in the restroom and you need it to be down, you can put it down. If it's down when you arrive in the restroom and you need it to be up, you can put it up. NOBODY should concern themselves with the damn status of the toilet seat. Leave it in the position that it ended up in after you used it. The only thing I require of the toilet seat is cleanliness. Other than that, I don't care about the position. Don't you have enough concerns already?
No, here's how it works. You buy the $1000 item with, say, a local sales tax of $1083.75. That's $83.75 in taxes, as opposed to the $67.00(Hmm. Awfully even for multiplying by 0.08375) you would pay on the $800. $16.75 difference. If you know how to handle taxes, almost anything at Best Buy can be a write-off. If my tax rate is 20%, that's a tax savings of $200 on the $1000 purchase, where as on an $800 purchase, I would only be saving $160 in income tax.
End result? Save more money on the $1000 w/ $200 mail-in. A wee-bit iffy on the tax law, but you'll never be busted for something stupid like that. Our tax system is crazy.
Absolutely. The thing is, nobody has really stood up with a solid legal argument as of yet. The only real legal arguments used against RIAA cases has been "It wasn't me, it was my son" or other weak crap like that. These may work for the individual cases, but they don't really put a dent in the RIAA's case. If Nettwerk does this, they're going to do this with a big lawyer and they are going to battle the issues at the root of the argument. If there is a legal precedent set in court, it will do a lot more damage to the RIAA's campaign against it's own users. In law, precedent is the big battle.
Having seen how the Gov't works in regards to computer systems, this is no surprise. Something gets reported, sits in an inbox, is read by someone who doesn't care, so they forward it to someone else.. eventually, it hits the inbox of someone who cares. This person is the exception, not the rule. As soon as someone becomes a federal government employee, you can almost watch as they just stop giving a damn about anything.
Just because we have not observed this event does not mean it has never happened. Pick out the very simplest of monocellular organisms. Now allow the UNIVERSE infinite time. Eventually, something will happen to bring things into proper order.
2) explosions don't bring order
Um. Okay. Thanks for that, but please note that you're comparing a mass of some form of matter that is expanding quickly due to a simple chemical reaction to THE FUCKING BIG BANG.
3) Mutations occur but almost always bring harm and NEVER add new information to a genetic chain.
Oh boy, thats hard science. They almost always bring harm. And isn't a mutation new information.. kinda by default? There's a difference between a genetic shift and your methhead cousin whose baby was born with two noses.
4) Science itself was vastly vived by a creationist perspective.
I normally agree with much of what your comments have to say, even if I disagree with some of your conclusions.
In this case, however, your analysis is completely flawed. You are using examples of COMPLETELY different and incompatible industries to back your proposed plan on telecom. This is worse than apples and oranges, you're comparing apples to dachshunds.
Let's look at a few of your examples..
Computers. In the computer world, you have a low barrier of entry to the market, and you end up with a crowd of manufacturers competing for the consumer's money. Result? Fair prices.
Automotive. Christ, the auto industry deserves it's own name for the economic dynamics. They certainly don't operate under standard economics. Yes, they are overpriced. Yes, they are regulated. These two items, however, are not directly related. They are overpriced, to a VERY large degree, due to mismanagement and expensive labor. Interesting fact - the U.S. automobile industry spends more per car on health care than on steel.
Soda.. well, of course it gets cheaper. Ask any chemical engineer. The name of the game is redesigning the manufacturing process to increase efficiency. This is an industry that doesn't NEED regulation. No real major cost of entry into the market.
Medicine. You honestly think that we should have less regulation on the medical field? This is an industry that has been ripping off the American public for a long time. We need BETTER regulations of the industry. The current regulations have been greased to the point of ineffectiveness. Before we can do this, though, we need a congress that isn't so blatantly for sale.
Clothing. Yeah, you can get cheap clothing. Especially if you don't care whose quality of life is trampled for it.
Island life is always expensive. So many of the goods have to be brought to the islands on boats. Meat is crazy-expensive. While spending some time in the islands (Great Guana Cay, actually. Smaller island) I learned that you should monitor when the shipments come in.. The good groceries disappear quickly.
And how many artists are successful enough to make six figures touring? Not many.
I work with a student group at a university that recently hired a singer-songwriter-activist type named Magdalen Hsu-Li to play a small concert. We paid a few grand for this, and her expenses were basically for her to travel with her drummer (Who is also her significant other) and their instruments. She had also done a gig in a neighboring state earlier the same day.
I figure that if she were to be clearing $2-4k per gig, and she worked out a good schedule for touring, she could very easily make it into the six figures touring. And she is a relatively tiny act.
Really good musician, though.. if anyone is into the female singer-songwriter thing.

Why not just buy a bluetooth headset and a bluetooth adapter? Works well for me.

Way too much trouble. There are alarm systems with cell connections to protect the system from having the line cut by a thief.

Scary, no?

Over. Only communists use the dastardly under-roll method.

You're who this origional story was about. APR is, and always has been Annual Percentage Rate.

What about an external monitor?
You are an astoundingly misinformed jackass.

Yeah. Scientists.

Hey, as one of the guys who ran the Defcon Wifi Shootout.. We moved past Pringles cans. :) It's bigass sat dishes these days.
