What habits have I found effective for system administration? BOFH spring to mind ...
One more vote for leaving if they take out the classic option.
I know I'm one voice among many (and only have a 5 digit uid), but yeah. If there isnt an option to keep classic, then fuck this site.

One way is using the get-winevent cmdlet from powershell. http://blogs.technet.com/b/heyscriptingguy/archive/2011/11/14/use-custom-views-from-windows-event-viewer-in-powershell.aspx.
Dunno about windows recovery console however.
