I have to disagree with you in one point. Here in South America racism is as bad as in any other western country. And I see you separate South America from "western countries". I feel slightly offended. Like when US people call themselves "Americans". But that's a separate issue. Discriminating people because of its race is very bad seen here. Sadly, it's common, but that doesn't make it acceptable. Specially in countries like mine (Chile), where you can see many european descendants as well as native descendants. I don't know where you got that from, but we do not have some kind of "aparhaid" (sorry if I mispelled).
About the game, when I played it the first time (back when I was around 10-12 years old I think), I always thought the game was too weird to be Mario, but I didn't question it much. In any case I prefer SMB3 over any other NES Mario. And I might have read it wrong (9 in the morning here and I'm sleepy), but I don't recall SMB3 having the card game in each end of world. It was a spawn in the map.
That sounds like... god, if those magazines had no ads at all, they wouldn't have more than 20 pages. I wouldn't like to see games mags to turn something like that =/
Is still a pretty crappy reason. And thanks for the correction. I still make mistakes in english.

Blame the language. You (singular) and You (plural) are the same words. I didn't mean to attack him in particular. Maybe I should have said it in a clearer way.
But nobody says anything about the picture where the black is dominating the white. Why is that not racist? Or is racism only when the black is the one being dominated? That sounds pretty unfair to me.
I don't mean to offend anybody, but I'm not from the US, so the whole thing seems to me overrated. And I'm not from Europe either. I'm from south america, where you see a lot of xenophobia around. And I don't agree (nor understand) it either.
I understand your point of view, but racism only exist because people think about it. I understand the whole problem in the US with their previous slavery, but that should be left in the past. Humans have different skin colors, big deal. At one point of history, a stupid human said that people with darker shades of skin were less as humans than the "lighter-colored" rest (which was the same as one stupid man said that women are less as people too, but let's leave that issue aside). There is no reason why we should keep that alive.
If one person looks at the ad, and finds it racist, he/she should stop and think "WHY am I thinking that". And realize that is stupid to think about it, and drop the thought, and look at the ad as two colors "fighting", and that they have NOTHING to do with human skin color (than, btw, isn't _black_ neither _white_. Just shades of pink and brown)
I agree. If you think about racism, you'll find the ad. racist. If you don't give a damn about skin color, the ad is just the representation of PSP colors.

wow, there goes my thought that geeks were open minded... you're a bunch of intolerant people as much as anybody else. Live and let live. Everybody has the right to believe in whatever they feel is true. All this argument has left me with the impression that/.ters are as retrograde as the next person.
Not really. Think about all the countries in South America. Almost all of them speak Spanish. But every single one of them have their own accent, even within each country. And spanish is phonetic.
Back in elementary school, in english class, some of my classmates used to write the phonetic words of english just below the correctly spelled word, because it was easier for them to pronunciate it. I never had to use that system, but I understand it, spanish IS a phonetic language. And is the way I'm used to.
I agree with you. I have enough with the chat on my current mmorpg (WoW). Plus, I already spent around 5 years of my life to learn a good level of spoken and written english... Don't f*uck it up even more, please
Plus, for me, english is one of the easiest languages to learn. Few verb conjugations, no noun gender, and the grammar is somewhat similar to my natural language, spanish. Is already simple, don't screw it with strange ideas.
Yeah, you're right. But I'll check on the web about that stuff at home, because I don't think it would be "politically correct" to look for kinky sexy stuff at work:P
By marketing to our baser instincts and trying to achieve even a simple sexual response, advertisements create a positive attitude in the possible consumer who sees their product, and maybe even encourage the purchase of that product because, chemically at least, something in our brains has been positively re-inforced to link the sexy product with a promise - albeit one that we conciously know is false - that pleasure is to follow upon the purchase of said product.
The bad thing is that makes us (humans) look like we have no brain cortex. I'm not arguing about what you said, because is the truth, and is what happens. But on a certain (and very personal) point of view, is sad to see that we still act on mostly stimulation than reasoning. Often I find myself seeing advertisement which offers sex in one degree or another (from suggestive model positions to barely clothed ones), and thinking "Who can fall on this?". And lately, those kind of advertisement disgust me in a degree I've never seen before, because I feel insulted. Not because of the semi-naked women at all (I'm a woman), but because they just cannot make any more intelligent ad.
The thing is, sex != breed anymore. We still have the instinct (of course), but I really, REALLY doubt someone looks at porn and think about having babies... that's the last thing you think about it. In fact, nobody thinks about having babies when having sex, unless you want them.

They never did? I'm pretty sure they did once you got into the higher levels. Or maybe it's just my imagination
How do they do to make critters chase PacMan? Or they just don't and wonder around in the maze? I didn't find it on the article.
But I think you still need an uterus to make the baby grow.... I don't see males having that.
:D
In any case, I'd like to keep seeing males around... they're full of flaws, yeah, but I love them
I don't want to become a lesbian anytime soon =/

... when there are NO interesting news to post on Slashdot :(
... and it made me remember my math courses at the university... what a headache. I just hope it doesn't last 36 hours hehehe...
Evolution solved that dilemma long ago my friend :P

Time to tell Sony to never build another console and colour it in a way that might be related to skin color.

I always thought that location specific DVD was pure crap. Why the hell would they make that? anybody here enlight me please.
OTOH, if one is a racist, then the ad is very good. It shows an aryan person victimizing a black person
Sorry, she doesn't look "aryan" to me at all. She looks more like she's suffering from albinism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albinism)

of course. I never said that it would. I was just saying that writing english in a phonetic way doesn't really have to mess up accents.

I understand the GP. I speak spanish and we have neutral, feminine and masculine words too :D
No no, I think you got it wrong, Ignorance = bliss!!
