I still have 3 on my jaws, I just had one pulled out because a hard-to-reach cavity transformed into a hole that started to collect food and stuff. And it started to hurt. I didn't want to part with it, I liked to have ALL my teeth. I guess now I appreciate those molars even more!
Oh, and I DID ask for that tooth back. It's in my bathroom now haha.
I agree. Words change meanings with new generations. Some gens ago, gay meant "happy". Now days, I'd say nobody would ever use that world to describe happiness. Maybe it is time for "gay" to stop referring to homosexuals and to be used to describe something "lame"? I don't know how the homosexual community would feel about this.
Don't. Last Sat I actually went out to ride my bike along the river walk and I got like 7 mosquito bites on my arms, and I'm kind of sensitive with these texan mosquitoes. Now I have big itchy bumps. I might not be used to their bite because that never happened when I lived in Chile.
Lesson: Don't go out. At least not near river banks;)
I agree with what you say, but I doubt first world countries would start putting birth limits. If anything, right now they're ENCOURAGING couples to have kids because their population is becoming too old and they have no new people to support it. Just look at Japan and some countries in Europe. They all have this problem. The only ones overpopulating are the less "educated" countries. Seems like education = birth control.
I agree. I don't care what my husband does in his private time. I draw the line with "real living human females". Anything else is fair game. And it goes for me too. I have a knack for hentai.
That's an interesting point of view. And yeah, there's no other word for the US citizens to call themselves but "americans", while we in spanish have, like you correctly stated, Estadounidense, which fits perfectly in my own opinion. I don't know about other languages, I'm just talking about the ones I know.
When asked about someone that comes from the US, I call him/her/them "US person/people". I still don't feel quite comfortable calling them "Americans". I do feel a little sorry about it, but between 28 years of south american culture versus 1 year or US culture, is hard for me to shake off the cultural difference.
Yeah, I know what you mean about ethnicity. I am mostly a white caucasian, because the majority of my ancestors came from Europe (I might have mixes in the blood too, who doesn't at this point?). I also come from Chile, which makes me a "latino". But when asked, they give me the option between caucasian OR latino. I don't believe latino is a race. But that's how things are in this country.
The entity in charge of regulating this is probably the SUBTEL,(Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones, subsecretary of telecommunications perhaps is the translation?). I don't know if you have any idea about politics in Chile, but we have several political parties over there, not only two. Yeah, there are like 3 or 4 that are bigger and with more power than the others, but they don't get to bend government entities the same way political parties in the US do. So in a way, by being more political (more parties), they are less political (the power is more spread). I don't know if that makes sense, but it sounds pretty haha.
Chile doesn't have states like the US. The main divisions are regions. They have their own governmental entities but they're all controlled by the central ones in Santiago, the capital. So regions don't get to do whatever they want either, meaning that if the government creates a law, all the rest of the regions have to follow, and individual regions can't make their own laws.
I hope that helped somewhat to understand a bit how Chile works. Of course, the real question is if the SUBTEL is going to care enough to reinforce the law in all its extent. That's a completely different deal.
They do teach poor geography. The rest of the world knows that there's ONE continent called America, that has 3 different sections: North America, Central America and South America. US people like to join together central and south america and call it Latin America, but that's only them. The rest of us know geography. If you look at wikipedia, the english section refers America as the US, while the spanish section shows you America as the ONE continent. Is a cultural difference, but it hurt us non US citizens in the way that we feel americans, but not in the way the US thinks about it. It feels like they robbed us of our continent's name.
Well, the thing is, he's not saying they should change their language. Just the way they type/write it out. Nobody's saying chinese should speak english. Just instead of using their system, move to the phonographic one (sp?). Egyptians once wrote with pictures. Now they don't. And I don't think they've lost one bit of culture because of that.
I agree with you. It doesn't add anything to what you're writing. I just makes it look "prettier". Knowledge is not better just because you're writing it/reading it in cursive.
I actually tried to get good marks in school when I had calligraphy. I never got past 4.5 or 5 on a 1 to 7 mark scale (being 7 the best, and getting below 4 is failing). I honestly tried. My hand is not made for cursive writing. And I actually have very good fine motor skills, I just fail on writing. Eh. As long as people can understand my print handwriting, I don't care.
I wouldn't go as far as saying it's not worth my time if it's in cursive, since for some people is really easy to write that way. Just don't ask me to do the same!
It is also annoying to see an attempt to a cheerful joke to be read as a mock. You must be bitter. And a typical south american who thinks that other countries get happy when one is going through a bad patch. That's why south america can't progress. All the countries are against each other.
As a chilean, is sad to see how our neighbours are having bad times with their government. They used to pick on us chileans to make themselves look good, now they don't even do that! (joking, joking). I hope you guys get your shit together and make a revolution or something. Argentines are known for their personality, use it!
I've tried it, and I always, ALWAYS go back to the 2am->11am. Is not the amount of hours I sleep, is when I do it. Back in school, I had a more "normal" routine (wake up at 7am to get to school at 8, go to bed around 9-10pm). I'd sleep the same length but I would still wake up very groggy. And on the weekends I'd switch back to my "natural" state, not even forcing it. I've read somewhere that is just how some people are.
And on a stranger note, I really, REALLY hate the morning sun. Something about that brightness makes me want to punch it in the face if it had one. After noon, is all ok.
I liked your novel. I have a similar problem (or condition). I've always have trouble being awake and fully aware in the mornings. At the university, the 8AM and 10AM class hours were awful for me. If the class was slightly boring or tedious, I'd fall asleep. If left to my own devices, I usually go to bed around 2-3 AM and I wake up at noon totally refreshed. Right now I don't have a job, so it doesn't interfere with anything, but I do want to get one and I'm fully aware that I might have to work the usual 8-5 *sigh*
Also, more to the point of the article, I have trouble falling asleep. I CAN'T shut my brain off. I start with one thought, or even maybe some tune I might have stuck in my head, and the train of thought that follows is incredible. Is like my brain is on speed. So I end up tossing and turning until I eventually thing something really uninteresting that makes me fall asleep. Once asleep though, I don't have problems staying that way. I wish my brain had an ON/OFF switch.
Is what someone previously mentioned. Personality != Behavior. Your personality might have not changed at all, but you did change your behavior. I believe that the personality is your own set of "rules" about how to respond to situations and people, and your behavior is how you actually end up acting on them. I could be wrong though.
Of course, but is completely wrong to sell you a thing that wasn't what was advertised. That's called a scam. Is like a restaurant serving chicken when in reality is, dunno, rat, or whatever. Although I believe ALL "reality shows" are fake.
That is a really interesting point, and I recall seeing something familiar
When I was about done with my university classes and I had to take a couple of internships as part of the degree, one of those internships was to help my said programmer teacher (who in reality was a computer professional who took care of everything IT in my school, and he happened to teach programming too) with taking care of the computer labs. One day I was doing formatting/reinstalling work at one lab on a couple of computers, and a class was starting too. I don't recall well what kind of class was, if it was indeed a computer class or another type of class with computer support (like biology or maths, or whatever). I believe it was a 6 or 7th grade.
Now, back in my day *shakes cane*, when I was in 6th grade, and like someone previously mentioned, my computer classes consisted in typing lessons plus LOGO (I loved LOGO haha). Most of my class was really interested in it and behaved really well, except of course for a couple of mischievous students. Well, this new class I had the sadness to witness, kids were all over the place, they only wanted to take each other's pictures with their cellphones, check their facebooks (which my teacher blocked just like you did, and they were really angry at that fact), and chat online. The current class teacher at that moment seemed at a loss how to control the kids. I felt sad for her and angry at this new generation. The most bold kids even tried to "convince me" to unblock certain chat services, I kinda laughed at their faces to be honest. I just didn't care.
Sometimes I think the problem is in the generation, and not so much in the schools.
I take this only happens in public schools? what about private? Are private schools too expensive or too elitist? Private schools in Chile are obviously more expensive than public, since you don't pay a dime in public schools, but the money is totally worth it, you get a better education and some private schools aren't as expensive as others (namely the very old and prestigious ones)

Wow. I just want to see any kind of book being published with THOSE names in our current times. Hilarity ensues.

I wouldn't mind if I get to have my own cyber hunk too. I demand equality in this marriage!

Sorry, the word I was looking for what phonetic, not phonographic. My mistake.

When you piss in your diapers and you barely recognize people, seems to be the case. Which oddly also applies to babies.

YES!! that damn metal slide, I HATED IT

I actually love to watch the Science channel. Is like a new Discovery, or better, like the old Discovery.
