    A user is desperate to get his 15 mins by getting his story on the front page. He has tried and failed. A lot. So, he waits for a story to pass that won't be too high profile, and researches it, sticks with it for a while, looking for something different to say about it.

    Then he either waits a month or two, or submits it when he thinks a different editor will see it.
    Slashdot has a vulnerability. People are abusing it. Get over it.

    Of course there are more attacks against linux than against SCO Unix. I'd imagine there are somewhere around, 300 to 400 trillion more instances of linux running than instances of SCO Unix. So it's not strange that there are more attacks against them
    I refer you to 50,000,000,000 comments about how install base is not the factor, security is. We laugh in the face of microsoft for using this argument. Consequentially, we don't get to use it.

    Listen, there's no point blaming the side-effects of your little "habit" on your choice of storage medium (it's for your "conventions"... suuuure).
    All you have to do is throw a little vaseline or baby-oil in there and you'll be back "on the road" in no time.

    maybe a useful suggesting for you then:
    what i do in windows is to do as much as possible in firefox - ftp client extension etc. i once even put a big text box onto my website to use as a text editor in windows (some php to save it on the server).
    sure is nice to hear "i agree" after posting on /.
    I suppose it's to be expected after praising linux!

    The way he talks about linux - shitting on its user friendliness and recompiling the kernel (I've been using fucking SLACKWARE for years without needing to this once), makes me think he tried to migrate once but he couldn't get used to the change.
    I know I've personally tried to convince myself to go back to windows a few times, but in my case it never works (for reasons see above +5 Insightfuls).
    If you read around forums, read letters sent to magazines etc, you see this same old story all too often - I tried it, my stuff didnt Plug-and-Play, thank you goodnight.
    Either that or he's being paid by MS... in fact never mind all that other stuff...

    I see a review on the main page that I like the look of. I click Read More. I am taken to a second site, with slightly more of the review, and yet another Read More link. Whose idea was that?

    I may check in in a few months time to see if they have fixed this, but it is highly likely that I will forget. One less person to see their bizarre google ads.

    So then, the superpower doesn't like the comparative "bazaar" system that the UN employs. You say it can't possibly be decisive enough? I suppose that when that many people (ie. the whole world) have access to a system, anyone can find a way to take advantage. In fact I agree, I'd much rather leave this product in the hands of Micros... I mean, er, America, safe in the hands of a notoriously fair and just corpor... I mean, country.

    This seems as much like "theft" as piracy does. I would say that it doesn't fall under theft, but something along the lines of illegal access, unauthorised access, etc. Definitely illegal, definitely wrong. I am not defending any of this, but I am getting sick of people comparing every new cybercrime to "theft". It's time for average Joe to be given a chance to understand these important new concepts for real.
