RealPlayer on linux makes me somewhat happy the times I have to use it. The core is open-source (Helix DNA), and it's about on par with all the other video players in Linux. (I believe that SuSE also uses Helix instead of gStreamer). I heard the Mac player isin't stellar, but is far ahead of the Windows version
EDGE, while lame, is already implemented across most of AT&T's network. Blu-Ray, while lame, is an attempt at a new standard that is not ingrained everywhere yet.
Since the necessary cable is required for the phone to be useful (iPod dock connector still), someone could probably write up an app to do all the dirty work for the end user
GSM is one of the three cell protocols in use in America right now. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM, Sprint and Verizon use CDMA, and Sprint-Nextel uses iDEN/TDMA. When you're roaming, you're probably using the "other network"'s towers

Desktop search is a name for a program that constantly indexes your hard drive so the results come up instantly when you search for a file. Examples include Google Desktop Search (Win/Mac), Vista Desktop Search (Win), Spotlight (Mac) and Beagle (Lin)
Yes, but this billionaire has been TO SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCEEE! Doesn't that make him so much cooler? Oh, and the little thing about him dumping his billions into a community-developed operating system, and isin't necessarily going to get any money back on the deal
Let's see: -failed UMD video format -low battery life -lack of stuff I havent played before -rampant piracy (bad from a business perspective) -easily scratched screen -tries to do all sorts of things, but doesn't excel at any of them
You have to have an AIM nick in your profile.
You might want to give Slashdotomatic a more relevant buddy icon as well.

Since AT&T is GSM, like the rest of the world, you should* be able to just swap out SIMs
*Unless AT&T vendor-locks the phone (likely)

Re-read the post. I said Sprint was CDMA. Sprint/Nextel (as in Nextel, owned by Sprint) uses iDEN. Sorry if I was a bit unclear.

In my area, Cingular (now AT&T) actually turned off TDMA ~1yr ago

You'd be suprised how much easier it is to get a signal when you can put the antenna more or less wherever the hell you want on your desk
Try one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 2E16833315041. Works for me, and even works out-of-box in Ubuntu (Ralink chipset)
If I'm not mistaken, the iPhone does IMAP push-mail

who have never had AT&T or BellSouth broadband
Well, since I live in one of those four states, I'm pretty damn excited anyways
Only if you don't run it through PGP or some other encryption program first

They'd stay alive for a little bit, the web browser still works an hour at a time
Rumors say that they've been dropping the banhammer on people using Action Replays, but there's no solid substantial evidence
