Well, I guess technically this would be giving regulatory power to your government then allowing your government to be sold to your local businessman for personal gain.
That's exactly what I was thinking -- especially when you think about the "stem cell burger" we were recently able to create, with a few harvested stem cells and some calf's blood.
Did it really take a lunatic to see that the gov't was doing this? Everyone (outside of slashdot) was OK with it when Bush was president and the patriot act was passed, why be so against it now? IMO Snowden didn't tell us anything we didn't already know, and I don't know why people are calling him a hero or traitor now when he hasn't really done anything good or bad.
Breathing helium can kill you much the same way that putting a plastic bag over your head can kill you. It stops you from breathing oxygen-enriched air which your body requires. It has nothing to do with whether the helium itself is damaging your body.
Seriously, this is news for nerds. A nerd's response should be more along the lines of "Wow, it's pretty amazing some of the innovative things they're doing with all this data." It really is, too. Being able to take this data and turn it into something useful in a completely different way is a technical wonder. This is a data mining masterpiece.
Slashdot is not a political news site. This is not a political news topic. Can we get back to the real reason we're all here?

I don't know, but if this same guy wrote the hack instructions then nobody will ever figure it out.
Just tried this with a co-worker's iphone and yes, if the camera was running you can access all of their previous pictures. Couldn't get it to load their contacts, though.
I've tried that with Christians up here in Michigan. It doesn't work. I like the story of Jesus and would love to believe that the world he imagined could really exist, but I'm hard pressed to find other Christians who see it the same way. It doesn't matter how you approach topics like evolution with them, they complete refuse to believe it or even consider it and will look for every possible justification to figure out a way to convince themselves that you're wrong.
If the carpenter makes the chair, and tells you he snapped his fingers and it materialized, but then you found out that in reality each piece was independently milled and fit together through long hours of painstakingly delicate work, then do you honor the carpenter for all his hard work, or do you question why he lied to you about how it came about?
The difference is that people are pretending to care about privacy right now because of Snowden. Don't worry, this will pass as soon as the next manufactured crisis comes around (probably the debt ceiling, again), and nothing will change.
Why all the name calling? If they are such idiots, then why is it that when they see reason, they react to correct the problem? You should be commending these people for realizing their mistake and working to fix it. Otherwise, you will end up with more "stay the course" politicians who are unapologetic when they make a mistake.
You don't file a lawsuit to regain $22.99. He's filing a class action lawsuit, which means he's speaking for everyone who paid $22.99 and probably his lawyers stand to make millions (and maybe him, who knows). If all you wanted was your $22.99 you'd just call Apple and make a stink, and eventually someone would refund you.
By privatizing it, right? From what I read around here, the free market does everything better!

Thanks for the clarification, but the anecdote still doesn't prove anything. There's lots of bad code out there in any sector.

But wouldn't it make Earth unhappy if we shipped its hard-earned plastic to a neighboring planet's moon?
It's really sad how all those red-neck astronauts just throw their litter out the shuttle window, isn't it?
It's really sad that comments like these get modded "flamebait" isn't it?

I think you willfully ignored "any other faith" as mentioned in my previous comment.
Yes, I was also able to replicate using the same technique. BTW My coworker knows I'm doing this, I'm not just hacking his phone without him knowing :)

It's as if none of you think the Jewish, Muslim, and any other faith is not all based on a similar creation story.

But doesn't that pretty strongly imply that we are all children of incest?

Thanks, yes, I was pretty sure I read about this exact same idea about a year ago (and I think it was even here on /.)
The title doesn't say anything about profits. What's your problem with it?
OR... you could buy the phone WITHOUT the subsidy and choose your carrier right away.

Is this considered accidental suicide or something like that? I wonder how his life insurance company (if any) will handle this.
