Sometimes I'm glad we haven't found anything. How embarrassing it would be, like having guests show up during a ugly fight with your spouse. (hehe, that episode of Office was painful!)

I'm not sure we deserve to meet an advanced alien race. Humans pretty much suck, we'd prolly figure out a way to try to war with them anyway.

Watcher should have compromised and chose a movie that would interest even jaded Texter.

You? You should be better at focusing on the massive movie screen and not what's going on in the next person's lap.

If you rely on the schools to construct your child's ethics, you are...um...not just stupid, but unethical yourself.

Don't pass on your major obligation of raising your children: instill in them the understanding of right and wrong your damn self.

The schools can be left with what they do best, teach necessary vocational skills and fundamentals for the future workforce.

Parents do what they do best: feed, clothe, and house them...and make them decent, respectful humans in your spare time.

    Try it. It's fun sometimes.

Do we have to expect and then forgive this kind of obvious shysty behavior by our corporate citizens?

Companies are petrified of "leaving money on the table", another way of saying that if they don't try to glean the profits By Any Means Necessary then another company will, and they will fail. Or be quickly punished by Wall Street.

And we are all okay with this business model based on desperation, clawing and scamming and cheating...or at least pushing the edge of decency to absurd limits.

So here we have a company, a country, a civilization that values and rewards cheating the system as far as it can get away with...which is only known in hindsight, as the raw and unapologetic greed that is required to succeed in this world inevitably leads to certain kinds of blindness.

You know the type: not really seeing the poverty of your fellow humans, the destruction of the environment, the wars and civil strife...we sort of acknowledge that it's there but we refuse to honestly admit the causes and will not genuinely cooperate with the solutions.

Because doing that might result in us "leaving money on the table"...for someone else! God forbid someone else rush in and fuck over the people in search of profits instead of us!

Suffice to say, this is a perfect example of a company knowingly gaming the system, because everyone expects (nay---demands!) them to in order to survive.

Great world, you assholes! Competition is good, sure. But is it so good that we forsake our humanity?

(nope, I'm not mad at MS...why should they pay a tax that they might not have to pay? But how do you know if you have to pay it? Well...just try to not pay it as hard as you can. You will soon have your answer!)

That's bullshit. I don't think anyone cares about cutting a few cm off the unit. That's not a compelling feature. An afterthought at best.

Making the unit quiet? Making the unit cool-looking? Reliable (fuck you 360)? Great games? Cheap? Online community? Keep up with latest tech (Blu-ray, large hd, graphics, etc)

Those are the features people spend money on. I've never heard anyone toss in the "but look how slim it is" in a console argument.

And as far as the 360 goes: It's very loud and unreliable. If it didn't have games (Halo3, Gears, COD4 and Live) it would die, and die horribly.

As it is, I'd like to predict a PS3 comeback and MS as the final loser, maybe even a Sega implosion. And I've rode Xbox since it first dropped. They are in trouble!

But what happens to an artist's soul when he signs up with the dark side? At some point, they start to suck ass. Maybe they would have anyway. But just maybe, the gift of talent they possess wastes away under the shadow of greed.

Also, the fan changes. Sure, we naturally grow up and out of an artist. But fans have this special bond with music they like. Something magical happens, it speaks to our soul. There's a connection, and for some of us, and I argue more and more of us, we cannot enjoy the music like we used to when we know enough about the artist to know they they are scumballs. The connection, this soul-link, withers away.

For example: R Kelly. I used to be a big fan, grew up with him. That shit was hot. Classics. But every time I hear him now, I just hear a pedophile, pissing on a 14 year old. Who can take Michael Jackson seriously, even his old classic hits? Some, but most reject him.

Artists know this, and most hide their politics and private lives so that we don't hate them and their music. (on the flip side, some music ain't so great but we like the artist/message)
