I was wondering when that old chestnut would pop-up. Not everyone has the mindset to be a programmer, let alone the time. You're inviting a lot of half assed code to be rejected from the base line if you expect people to just "learn c or c++" then start contributing to a project that probably at least requires knowledge at CS level. This would create an extra burden on any project.
Believe it or not, some people (actually, most people) just want to buy their device.
It's not stupid. It's quite common for specialised equipment to rely on drivers written for a particular OS. We have a 3 year old transmission dynamometer that cost us $180,000 that is controlled by redundant commodity x86 hardware running XP. There is no need to keep the OS up to date as it serves only one purpose.
Stupid lusers these days think all "PCs" are to be connected to the Internet and used for browsing file sharing sites.
Arguably, the increasing incidence of pedestrians and cyclists being injured or killed by distracted drivers requires a legislative effort to minimise the harm, as people cannot be trusted to act responsibly. Some people would argue the same for online pornography, given the failure of many parents to educate and monitor their children's Internet usage.
I believe the immediate danger to all road users associated with distracted driving far outweighs the largely moral issue of online pornography.
My take is that a large part of the traditional Slashdot reader base love technology and the science behind it, but dislike the impact it has on person to person relationships, social norms and society in general. So get off my lawn unless you're gonna mow it.
I see no advantage to this.. thing over traditional blood, sweat and tears learning methods. The thing doesn't even tune. The most fundamental part of learning any instrument is feeling the natural acoustic harmonics generated when the instrument is slightly out of tune, compared to when it is in tune. This is ear training, and no shortcuts can be taken there. This device can not replicate that. Even an unplugged electric guitar generates audible harmonics that are fundamental to learning music.
The other issue I have is the requirement to concentrate wholly on the fretboard, not the score. This method may teach the student a few scales, licks or songs, but they will not develop the subconscious fingering accuracy required to truly advance. This will only come by throwing away this.. thing, and buying a proper guitar.
Ha! As if that previous republican loony didn't adopt spreading FUD and bullshit as his standard operating procedure! No, it's just "blame the skinny black guy".

Bummer you excluded the bathroom lights. I had mine on a midnight to dawn program controlled by a motion detector in the bedroom hall that slowly ramped the hall/bathroom lights up to 30% - great way to avoid squinting from the brightness when you go for that 3AM piss.
I did mine with Clipsal C-Bus, not cheap but works really well. It integrates with Clipsal Star-Serve for AV and runs wirelessly or with Cat-5 (they recommend using pink cat-5 for identification as standard).
As well as the C-Bus, I also ran cat-6 data, coax and AV to each room, all served by a cabinet in the garage. All in separate conduits, with extra pull wires.
One tip though; don't expect it to add to the resale value of your home if you have a complex system for lighting. Many buyers will see that as a potential future liability. Be sure to run standard light switching circuits as well.
Yeah, the only two countries with federally mandated helmet laws, and they've both seen a dramatic decrease in cycling participation since the laws were introduced.

GREAT! That means we can fill the world with 99 times more useless plastic shit! And fuck entire ecosystems while we're at it! Jolly good.
Hell, bottled water being cheaper than coke would be a better nutrition option. Shame about the waste plastic though.
It took you 3 minutes to type THAT badly?
Which island? Australia?
At least he doesn't smoke crack, unlike you...
I've watched two of these stupid talking head videos. Why is it that I've wanted to punch both of the subjects in the face?
Yeah, god put the coal there for us to use, right? Fuckwit. Let's see how your bible saves you next time severe weather hits.
Cool, as in chicks dig it, or cool as in... kinda frigid?
He's gonna swarm, on any motherfucker in a blue uniform.

The simplest answer is usually correct. Instead we get the typical murdoch media response i.e. the pilots were not Caucasian, they must be terrorists.
If any trace is found in Australian waters, it will either be detained or culled.
OK. http://articles.latimes.com/20...

Damn, you traded the Blues Mobile for a microphone, then you lost the microphone. Pure fail, all 'round.

No, they'd be man handled by security, police called and thrown in the watch house on trespass charges.
Yeah, we can all die fat and slow instead.
