No, that's one version in 1611 English and one in 20th century English. You'll notice that they say the same thing, just in the vernacular of the times.
Your analogy would be true for in-generation comparisons. In this case, however, I think it would make more sense to say that Sony beat Microsoft to win the last World Cup (and Nintendo barely got out of the first round), but in this World Cup Microsoft has already won their first game of pool play while Sony and Nintendo are still prepping for their first game. Oh, and Sony keeps cutting players.;)
This is a state law that applies to Louisiana only; it has absolutely no bearing on how Florida or any other state but Louisiana deals with violent video games.
While that's an amusing anecdote, it's not what is happening here. In this case, they were using a Wii... it just happened to be in a Gamecube case. Now, any one on Slashdot should know that cases are a wholly superficial part of a system and so this is nothing but more FUD over a non-issue.
I've experienced similar periods where the DVDs you have just don't seem appealing and you don't really have the time... and suddenly you've had them for two weeks. Couple this with the throttling that Netflix does (I mail two DVDs back and mysteriously there's a 4 day difference between when they receive them?), and I'm considering quitting as well. The main problem is that I chose Netflix as a cable-replacement option: pay 1/3 as much as cable so my wife and I can get watch seasons of great TV shows or good movies rather than whatever crap is on at the time. If I can't get what I want when I want it, there's really no point to keeping it.
Here's hoping for a well-thought out download system.
"Should it contain local news? Traffic? Weather? What type of information would you want on the BBC's homepage (or CNN's if you're in America)?"
I'm not a coder or in web design, so I can't tell you how to make a simple but elegant interface. I can tell you what should be readily apparent to anyone asked these questions: I want exactly what I want, when I want it. That's what I like about Google News - if I want sports news on top, that's where I put it; if I want a custom search for all new pharmaceuticals, I can do it. Major news websites should take note that people want to be able to decide what news they see.
There's a reason why most people flip directly to a specific section of the newspaper. It's time the newspaper flipped for us.
I fail to see how Madden based on the Revolution controller constitutes a "gimmick game." To my mind, a gimmick game would be something like DDR that is based on a very unusual premise of hitting 4 buttons in time with the music... with your feet. Madden Revolution, on the other hand, takes an established line of games and attempts to give it more intuitive controls; it's like the progression of controls for FPSs on consoles, except a 100 times more effective.
The only reason why they are selling them for so little is because the market is saturated with pirated copies, which the article lists as costing $0.75. The situation is somewhat like the console wars: Hollywood just wants to find a way into the market, even if they have to take a loss.
I'm going to reply to this one rather than the 15 posts that have already complained about the Z button.
Anyway, am I the only guy who has large hands and can still handle the Gamecube controller? For the Z button, I've always found that I can put my right middle finger on R and still use my right index finger for Z. Perhaps this is some weird anatomical adapation I've made after hours and hours and days and days of playing Smash Bros. - and if so, I recommend it to the rest of you!
There are still cases of malaria in the U.S. every year... I was just saying that it is more common in tropical regions and far, far, far more common in those regions which don't have adequate access to medical care.
I doubt that the Ebola vaccine will be added to infant vaccines any time soon - or even suggested for the general populace. Ebola isn't like the hepatitis viruses or HIV which might be quietly spread without showing any symptoms... when an outbreak happens, you know it's happening immediately and you can treat those affected and vaccinate the rest. Infant vaccines tend to be those viruses that can sneak under the radar easier but have high infant mortality rates.
As for malaria, it is far from eradicated. While you won't hear about it much in temperate climes or in developed nations, it's still a very big problem for millions of people who live in rural areas or don't have ready access to the drugs that prevent and kill it. For that matter, not all of the old, cheap drugs work as well any more, and the expensive newre ones are great for suburbanites on vacation to the tropics, but not as easily disseminated to the slums of India or the far reaches of Africa.
I completely agree. But it's just not likely to happen in the same country where all gas prices are listed as X.XX9 - as if by taking 1/10 of a cent off we're actually saving money.
They are trying to make the service as responsive as possible for new and low-volume users. Once you are a tried-and-true Netflix user who requests a considerable number of DVDs, they put in artificial obstacles to prevent you from renting more than is profitable (the article says each DVD costs the 78 cents postage).
We're going from "Ick... tastes like radiation" to "Mmm...! Tastes like Shewanella oneidensis!"

Nothing to see here, move along...

But seriously, did anyone else think that Hollywood is going to use this as the background for The Perfect Storm II?
(Just kidding, but the parent poster is probably just unhappy that an overweight, middle-aged plumber gets more press -and play- than him.)
I had a low-birthweight kid and only got the core system. :(
I completely agree - only a user with a defect would use Internet Explorer. ; )
That's the same situation as is happening with recently released DVDs... coincidence? I think not.

Aren't ants monarchists? They have a queen...
Ecosystem refers to an environment and its organisms. You're looking for "economy."
Wasn't the antitrust investigation into Microsoft during the Clinton administration? Well, I mean... the first one.

Will you agree not to send any lawyers now? =/

(The lesson being that everyone dislikes being told they're an idiot.)

This is not at all a new phenomenom - I was saw clips of this in neurobiology classes some time ago. I don't really see why it's making Slashdot.
