This reminds me of a notorious dutch forger by the name of van Meegeren, an Art Dealer who 'discovered' numerous Vermeers, some of them regarded as 'the most beautiful' ever created, this happened during WWII and he was lzater tried for selling 'Art treasures' to the Germans. He claimed that he never sold any Art to the Germans but rather some of his own handy work, he got laughed at and it was not until he offered to paint a 'Vermeer' on the spot that he was taking seriously, he proceeded to paint another 'masterpiece' in court. A large number of 'Vermeers' disappeared from Art galleries overnight. Lots of egg on face and all of van Meegeren's work was branded as 'rubbish'. Looks like beauty is not in the eye of the beholder but rather in the mind.
Tom Waits
Mule Variations (1999)
What's He Building?
What's he building in there?
What the hell is he building
In there?
He has subscriptions to those
Magazines... He never
Waves when he goes by
He's hiding something from
The rest of us... He's all
To himself... I think I know
Why... He took down the
Tire swing from the Peppertree
He has no children of his
Own you see... He has no dog
And he has no friends and
His lawn is dying... and
What about all those packages
He sends. What's he building in there?
With that hook light
On the stairs. What's he building
In there... I'll tell you one thing
He's not building a playhouse for
The children what's he building
In there?
Now what's that sound from under the door?
He's pounding nails into a
Hardwood floor... and I
Swear to god I heard someone
Moaning low... and I keep
Seeing the blue light of a
T.V. show...
He has a router
And a table saw... and you
Won't believe what Mr. Sticha saw
There's poison underneath the sink
Of course... But there's also
Enough formaldehyde to choke
A horse... What's he building
In there. What the hell is he
Building in there? I heard he
Has an ex-wife in some place
Called Mayors Income, Tennessee
And he used to have a
consulting business in Indonesia...
but what is he building in there?
What the hell is building in there?
He has no friends
But he gets a lot of mail
I'll bet he spent a little
Time in jail...
I heard he was up on the
Roof last night
Signaling with a flashlight
And what's that tune he's
Always whistling...
What's he building in there?
What's he building in there?
We have a right to know
I'm with Linus on this one, I use KDE because I CAN tweak things, to quote Einstein:
"Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler."
I always thought he introduced the cosmological constant to stop the universe from collapsing, unaware at the time that the universe was expanding. The removal of the CC was later vindicated by Hubble who discovered the expansion of the universe. I do not think that in its original form the CC had anything to do with dark matter.
I don't know fromwhere you arrogant fuckwits get the notion that the US owns the infrastructures in the rest of the world, you do NOT own the fucking infrastructure.
No we're not, on a clear day you can see it though, just head out north east for about 12 hours and you'll hit its western shore, the big pimple on it must be YOU
Anthropic principle: We see the universe the way it is because if it were different we would not be here to see it.
this is better known as the WEAK Anthropic principle
During WWII the Dutch underground was referred to as 'de Illigaliteit' meaning: 'The illegals', those that were not caught and killed by the Nazis still wear that badge with pride.
We had this nifty thing at school years ago, enabled us to speak 4 different languages, it was called STUDY, in addition the more we understood all these foreign languages the better we came to understand our own.
Looks like Windows will become what Cobol used to be, people to scared to move on to a new system because of the legacy problems.
Wonder how many NT 4 workstations will be around in say 15 years that are still being nursed, and more importantly, will those doing the nursing look anything like the old fogies still doing Cobol today.
The last time the thread came from the rivers the Dutch evacuated the entire city of Nijmegen (200,000 people in all). In the aftermath they decided to give the river (Rhine) a bit more room, rather than raising the dikes even higher.
mmmmmmmmmm, I was born in Rotterdam, lived there for 29 years, never heard THAT story before, sounds about as good as plugging a hole in a dike with your finger, those that actually have seen a 'sea dike' will see the funny side of that story. Also the 8 Billion Guilders was the initial budget (1953) needless to say that they went over 'a bit' seeing the project went for more than 30 years, some extraordinary innovations were made due to some extraordinary problems they faced such as having to build on silt rather than bedrock, but in the end they were true to the creed: "Luctor et Emergo", the Lion in the coat of arms of Zeeland does stand knee-deep in water for good reason. One lesson the American people could learn from this was the fact that the entire 'Delta Plan' was enshrined in an irrevocable Law, to make sure that no one could weasel out of this when the memory of the flood subsided!
Being born and raised in the Netherlands I had to learn 3 languages besides Dutch (English, German and French), with English being my preferred. I thought I was pretty good at it until I moved to Australia in 1984, only to discover that all the things they teach you in school (syntax etc.) is only HALF of what you need to truly MASTER the language, after 21 years I can (sometimes) manage to pass for a dinkum Aussie only because I seldom speak Dutch, married an ozzie girl and have ozzie kids.
There were already a number of search engines available (1999), what could be more dynamic that that, there's your prior art.
End of discussion i'd say
To quote Christiaan Huygens who stated this publicly (and was applauded for it), the same time Galileo was put under house arrest and threatened with torture for bringing forth 2 competing world models for debate: "Science is my religion"
That's right, in my IBM Midrange days they did just that with a 'patched' version of the SYS36 SSP (os), and found redundend loops to slow the bugger down to make the new AS400 look faster, subsequent 'patches'
(PTFs they were called fot Program Temporary Fixes) removed these loops and for a long time the SYS36 (model D) shat over the lowend AS400.
Aahh the memories....

No, we don't redefine the edge of the solar system, the boundary is determined by the 'Helio pause', the extend of the 'solar wind'

Funny, I knew before I read the article that the bloke had to come from 'Tasfobia', either that or the ghost of Joh Bjelke Petersen being channeled.

Try this: James Hardie did a runner from Australia trying to avoid a hefty payout for Asbestos related illnesses

Wrong, the Dutch Delta Plan as it is called consist of enough raw material to rebuild the Great Wall... TWICE

This must be a hoax, in the US anything foreign is ALIEN.
