Not that I want people to steer away from this masterpiece but this game is so bad it is the definition of what not to do in a video game. I want people to play it just for the entertainment value and laughs it will bring. Play TP and then play a game like CoD or any other FPS game in the last 5 years and it will be worth a comparison. If anything, don't pay money for it. Rent it and you will thank me later.

Well, I agree on the fact that an undone game is something that should never happen. Especially when it comes to polish in a game. I don't really don't want to ever play a buggy game. The problem lies when that is very subjective. Some people think COD 4 is the greatest gift to mankind, and to me it isn't. You are right, it can become very stale gameplay. Publishers don't like to take risks. That is why gaming is in a rut. Halo 3 was not much different than Halo 2. I bet you anything that they didn't want to totally change up the formula because that might risk losing more people.
When you have a game that has sold 11 million units and an average of $50-60.00 a pop...that is a lot of money. Developers don't see that money at all. All of that money gets filtered back into the publisher, either to line their quarterly earnings or to fund other misc. projects.
All I know is that it isn't as clear cut as people try to make out to be. Yes greed plays into it, but that happens in any major corporation. Games are no different than most any other business. It is the fact that people think they know what they are talking about when referring to games and how they should be made, but in reality they have absolutely no idea what goes on behind the scene
People need to start realizing how the game industry works. You have multi-million dollar franchises at stake and games generally only get one shot to make their money. They don't have 3 releases, they have one. Movies can be shoved to theaters, make money there, then shoved to DVDs, online rentals, and TV. Games take a lot longer than most movies to make and are far far more complex to make than any other entertainment out there. Stakes have become higher with next gen games. It takes a lot more effort in creating a next gen game than people realize. Budgets have skyrocketed, teams have grown in size and to understand the new systems takes time and a ton of effort.
People also need to start distinguishing developer from publisher. Developers have very little say in what to do in a lot of cases. Marketing, advertising, producing, DLC deals, etc. all of that usually gets decided from the publisher not the developer. There is a big difference. People need to stop hating on developers for decisions made by publishers. It just needs to stop.
As for the content, content gets cut, added, rearranged, and thrown all over the place during a project. Developers may not have time to complete a certain cool piece of content before they hit their ship dates. It takes time to develop these ideas or pieces of content. At some point a game has to be released to make money for the publisher. There are constant milestones for the developers and some things make it and somethings don't. DLC is a way for people to experience more content that generally was left on the cutting room floor for a number of reasons. Think of it like you are getting a directors cut of the game. You either have a choice of buying it or don't. It isn't going to ruin the game if you don't have it, it is only going to enhance it if you do buy it. If everyone had it their way to produce a perfect game, it would take 4-5 years on average. Think about that, pretty much one console cycle because you want the perfect game which would never yield perfect scores anyways. Get real people, that isn't how it works and it will never work that way. Only a few instances will games take that long to make (ie. Halflife 2 and Doom 3, and a few others).
Everyone needs to get off their high horse and accept the fact that this is the way it is probably going to be for long while. Activision Blizzard, EA, Ubisoft, Midway, Microsoft, etc. they are all corporations and their main focus is to get your money and make sure their shareholders are satisfied. Whether that mean they will release a buggy game or a game that will blow you a way. These are calculated risks that they take. The developers are generally the ones that care about how well the game is made. Some have the talent and some don't. If games were easy to make, then we would have 100's of thousands of people working to develop games and you don't see that. You see a small selection of people that can make games, just like acting, athletes, musicians, etc.
I suggest anyone who doesn't agree with me, go buy Unreal 3, Unreal 2004, Quake 4, Doom 3, Farcry, Halflife 2 and open up their editors and you figure out how to make a game. You will find that it isn't easy and it takes a lot of time. DLC is what happens when developers want to continue their content to enhance the game. Yeah, maybe that content could have made it in the game when it shipped but like everything, there are sacrifices to be made somewhere along the line whether it be quality, or quantity. Be happy you get extra content from any developer.
This is an extremely good question. I work for a major gaming publisher as a level builder, and I ask this question a lot. I mean if people are getting upset at the GTA hot coffee mod, then just wait 10-15 years from now. After playing Crysis on a high end machine with everything turned all the way up, we are damn close in being photorealistic. For those who haven't yet played Condemned 2, pick it up. Now imagine that game 10 years from now. It is going to be epic.
Environmental building and lighting are pretty close in being real (lots of haxoring to get things right), now we have to get characters and physics up to speed. Mostly characters though, as soon as I see a character on screen and their mouth is moving, it kills the realism.
Another thing we need is AA. Up until about a year ago we really couldn't do much AA in games because our videocards just couldn't handle it. Right now the 360 is the choice platform for developers and that machine can't do AA very well or at all.
I figure it will take 2 more console generations to really get in the realm of photorealism. Working in the game industry is weird because every few years you change the way you make games. It is always constantly changing in every project (new engines, new software, new limits, etc). It requires a lot brain power to get games to where they are at right now (at least AAA titles). One day though, we can put headsets on and get off like John Spartan and Lt. Lenina Huxley (Demolition man).
I am not even close to being a troll. If American congress actually focused on the right things instead of things like war then we would be in much better shape. The war has made things worse not better.
You are right though, Medicaid and welfare are major problems, but you have to fix one thing before you can start on another. War has a lot to do with fusion research. Everyone knows the reason why we are over there is energy (oil). We need to secure the oil because US depends on it so heavily that with out it, our economy starts to take a dump. We need to do exactly what we did with the Manhattan project. Give all the funding we need to, to leading world scientists and essentially lock them in a room and figure this shit out.
It is very relevant because there are a lot of things we could of done with the money. Yet our congress keeps funding this war. Afghanistan was the only place we should of gone but our mighty cowboy of a leader had to get greedy. Anyone who says we are fighting terrorists over there so we don't fight them over here is just fooling themselves. First of all you can't fight terrorism. I am sorry but if anything this war has pissed off a lot more people and made things a lot worse. So, yes I get a little agro when I see science and math and projects go out the window because our congress is dumb. After all our interwebz is run on tubez.
" Even that protracted timeline now appears optimistic. Since 2006, when seven member countries committed to the ITER's $10 billion budget, federal funding for scientific research in the United States appears to have bottomed out. The U.S. agreed to pay 9.1 percent of the project's total cost--but of the $160 million contribution planned for this year, Congress has approved just $10.7 million. Porkolab says eight ITER engineers had been laid off without severance pay. "
I love how we can spend a shit ton of money on a ridiculous fantasy war and we wont actually fund something that actually has some merit. Too bad the terrorists missed and got the wrong people, they should of went after our congress. What a bunch of worthless old people that run our country.
These articles are about the only things that restores my faith about humanity. That is sad.
In fact I do work for a major corporation in the gaming industry and I work for one of the major franchises that just came out recently it starts with a C and I will leave it at that. I personally have no problem with people pirating my game...mainly because I get paid no matter what. I am a level designer....do you know what that means? That means I get a lot of say in how the game is designed which means I am in the upper tier of development. My actions have directly made my company tons and tons of money. I have seen so much more corrupt things through the execs of my company than you would ever know. I have gotten screwed out of bonuses that I know I should of gotten. Why? because of corporate greed. It isn't because of piracy buddy. I have made the company millions and millions of dollars...I have helped get several games out for them on time and I have worked several years of crunch (try 60-80 hours a week for 8 months straight, sometimes only getting 2 days off in a month if that). I have been where most wouldn't go. How many 18 hour days have you put in at your work? I am guessing not many if any. Guess what my salary is? I will tell you $50k a year and try to make a living in Los Angeles with that. You can't, unless you have roommates or something like that.
I went to film/art school for 4 years. I have been taught by more people in the industry than you would ever know. People from Sony, Disney, Pixar, Rhythm and Hues, the list can go on and on. SO yeah I think I might have a little more credibility than you do buddy.
I know how actors and actresses and musicians work. Hell I live with a former band member who was going to get signed for a multimillion dollar deal until things like drugs with other people got in the way. So please don't tell me I have no clue what I am talking about. People like me actually contribute to your entertainment. People like me, love our job and we aren't EXPECTING to get paid millions of dollars. Even though my game sold over $250+ million, I am not expecting to get paid $5 million for my contributions. So please take your nonsense elsewhere.
yes there are indy artists all over the place but guess what...now there are things like myspace, facebook, youtube, ifilm, break, liveleak, and a billion other places out there to get them recognized. Indy people of course aren't going to get paid millions and why should they?
For some ungodly reason we hold musicians, artists, actors, actresses, directors, producers, execs to this pedestal when we shouldn't at all. I want to see scientists and college professors and actual smart people put up on the pedestal. Why the fuck are we even caring about people like Britney Spears or Paris Hilton? It is all about priorities man, priorities. America is so ass backwards with so many ways of thinking it hurts society. Knowledge comes first before entertainment. But right now, its the other way around.
I find it funny that they are targeting 7 out of 8 ivy league schools. Doesn't that say that maybe pirating is a good thing? Maybe these smart people know that pirating is illegal in the minds of the IP holders but don't care. They would much rather get educated and cultured through things like torrenting and other p2p programs. At what point does the public have a say in what is right and what is wrong? The way I view p2p and torrenting is that it is the biggest library of any kind. It holds not only entertainment but educational purposes as well. I have tons of videos, music, games, etc. that are very illegal but then again I don't care. 90% of that stuff I wouldn't of seen to begin with so I don't feel guilty about taking what I wouldn't of seen or heard or enjoyed. A lot of it is educational (ie. Modern Marvels, Discovery, History Channel, etc)
I do not care about actors, musicians, directors, managers, producers because they all get paid no matter what. If they are good they will continue to get paid. When I see shows like MTV cribs...and what these celebs buy with my money...screw them. They don't need their 3rd or 4th super car. They don't need their insane boats or whatever it may be. I am sorry but actors/actresses don't need to be paid millions for their roles in movies. Musicians shouldn't expect $90,000 for a small gig at a club. Execs make way too much money for me to give a rats ass about me stealing a damn album.
These guys have outdated ways of thinking and they are fighting for their last breath and instead of working with the consumers they go and fight the consumers. All I know is that I want to see propirating videos on youtube.
cuban has thought of the fact that these telecos have squander all of our money away and have yet updated internet service. I find it funny that America is suppose to be the biggest badass country in the world and we lack on just about everything technology wise (except for when it comes to military needs). Other countries have way better internet than we do and we are so lagging behind.
Americans just don't care. They don't see what we "could" have and suffice what we do have. Cable, DSL, FIOS are all better than dialup 56k so we must not complain. worthless I I tell you.
For once I would love somebody from a corporation do something for the public and not for their own self interest. when will companies figure out that helping your customers out only attracts more people to their company and because of that you gain more business. They always seem to want to screw over the consumer as much as possible.
I don't know but a lot of issues can be solved but no one wants to put the effort into solving it.
I wonder how many of the 89% of the American population believe in Christianity. Out of those people, I am sure a lot of them think that putting chips in the bodies is the mark of the beast.
Old people over 70 should not get a voice on just about anything dealing with technology (not at this present time at least). There always is a gap in thinking between young people and old people in most things (especially technology). Older people have a harder time to grasp concepts of all sorts. Show a 70+ year old person programming, or how to make a website, or make something in 3d and they will just look at you funny. Show a 12 year old the same things and they are intrigued. We are also talking about a generation that think porn is wrong, and considering the amount of porn on the interweb...yeah I am sure they want that to have oversight.
Old people in general should not be in high up places (ie. congress, supreme court, company execs.) Just because you are old doesn't make you wiser....it just makes you old with old ways of thinking.
Or he wanted fame and fortune. Which is why a lot of people start their own businesses, institutes, etc.
There is a damn reason why our government and top aerospace engineers are looking into this. Maybe because it's credible and you have no clue how his device works.
They need to stop fucking the little guy over. You start screwing employees out of their royalties or bonuses or benefits. You are going to see a lot less people innovating for these big ass corporations and end up making their own damn products on the side. Only to end up getting sued by every other corporation. This is the major problem with business today. There is too much suing going on for any innovation to go on. It seems to me like all the innovating goes on in colleges that were funded by the government. I am sure a lot of research being done is for our military.
Right now anything remotely interesting ends up getting sued out of business. I am tired of companies not learning how to adapt to new technology *especially web technology*
There is a whole world of innovation out there but the problem is that it costs too much whether it be money or the threat of getting sued out of existence...it is a huge risk now to start up your own business or even bring to the table innovative products to your own corporations.
I refer to office space a lot because a huge portion of it is true in business practices. If I make an effort to do my job plus try to save the company money...plus be innovative and I bring it up the ranks. Do you think I will compensated for that amazing job? Fuck no. You either get a miserable raise and/or a kick in the nuts.
My mother has MS and I know others as well that have it. It is such a horrible disease. I hope this research continues and is a viable option and soon. Nothing is worse than seeing a parent or loved one just lose their abilities over a few years.
How do they figure £475,000 worth of damage? I don't know much about the case (or really anything of it) but did he actually do harmful damage to the crap he hacked into...or is it potential damage? I can never trust half the money numbers people throw around these days.
you have nothing to hide doesn't mean something can't get used against you in the future. People who say that "they have nothing to hide" either they are lying or don't think about what they are saying. Laws can change and laws are different in every state, in every country, and in every situation. Just saying that you have nothing to hide doesn't mean that it can't be used against you 40 years from now. Take a look at celebs and politicians. People dig and dig until they find something that is controversial and that can be used against them even though they did it 10-20+ years ago.
I am sorry but the least people know about me the better. I don't want people knowing everything I do or don't do. I don't want the government to use whatever data mining they have gathered about me and use that later. We can't stop terrorists by data mining. We can't stop terrorism because it is abstract. Start taking away any more freedoms in America it will start pissing more people off and homebrew terrorism will start happening.
Unless we can make the government completely crystal clear and see exactly what they do behind closed doors...they aren't welcomed into mine.
Who knew that minority report could feel so real these days. Americans could care less about these topics. As long as they have American Idol and entertainment...they could care less about our government and our freedoms. One of the best quotes from a movie and it holds true today.
Gracchus: Fear and wonder, a powerful combination. Gaius: You really think people are going to be seduced by that? Gracchus: I think he knows what Rome is. Rome is the mob. Conjure magic for them and they'll be distracted. Take away their freedom and still they'll roar. The beating heart of Rome is not the marble of the senate, it's the sand of the coliseum. He'll bring them death - and they will love him for it. -gladiator
I am glad some people stand up for noncensorship. It seems like everyday I read that some censorship is happening in every single country (and yes even America...we aren't the home of the free). It really comes down to an information war between the elite people who run countries and the public who want to know more and have more. Because these elite people are in cushy positions they don't have to do much or learn much. So as soon as you have people becoming more intelligent their job is at stake. They have lots of money. With money comes power. The question is how power is being used. Is it being used to control the masses (me thinks yes) but if more people do what what Pirate Bay is doing. Information gets out and that is always good.
basically, Mr. Carl Rove ended up only having 130 emails actually recorded throughout bush's presidency when there should of been all of his emails and all of the other peoples emails recorded. This is why we will never know anything come 25 years from now when things get declassified. This seriously amazes me why the general public is not outraged by this. Compared to the insane ridiculousness of this administration. This trumps it all. I could bet my life that most of those emails were about foreign affairs in Iraq, Iran, North Korea, oil, military, war funding, contracts and contractors for Iraq, occupying the middle east, nsa wiretaps, spying on Americans, the whole damn thing were in those emails. I seriously would be my life on it. Now we have no records of any wrong doing. How screwed up is this place. We should be marching in DC with pitchforks (well guns) and over take the city. Un-fucking-believable

Humans weren't here 35,000 years ago. It was only 6,000 years ago. We could not have possibly enjoyed music 35,000 years ago. =) /end sarcasm

yes there are indy artists all over the place but guess what...now there are things like myspace, facebook, youtube, ifilm, break, liveleak, and a billion other places out there to get them recognized.
Old people in general should not be in high up places (ie. congress, supreme court, company execs.) Just because you are old doesn't make you wiser....it just makes you old with old ways of thinking.
as long as Spielberg doesn't make a movie about it.
Welcome to the corporate world of mass fuckery

Anyways, more power to these guys.
we are gonna need a smart car for people like meadow soprano. =)
It's ok, she is hot so she gets a pass from me.
basically, Mr.
