Apple's Human Interface Guidelines differ entirely from Microsoft's. For this reason, supporting Windows apps natively under Mac OS X would be a bad idea... unless Microsoft artwork were to be used instead of an "Aqua skin"
It would likely be trivial to port PRODAS to Mac OS X. I think PRODAS is definitely an example of software which hasn't been ported to Mac OS X, as opposed to software which can't be ported to Mac OS X.
No modern OS sets up an unpassworded root account by default, especially on a multiuser system.
Actually, QNX Neutrino 2 initially sets the root password to be an empty string. Granted, version 2 is from a few years back (and I don't know if the current version still behaves this way), but it's certainly a modern OS.
Micro$oft has decided that the end user license agreement for Vista will only be available in the form of a folded paper crane. They're hoping that most people will never read the EULA for fear of wrecking "the cute little paper crane that came with Vista".
Leap.A installs a bundle to '~/InputManagers/apphook' that hooks certain iChat functions. When any of the user's buddies change their status, the worm initiates a file transfer and sends a copy of ' 'latestpics.tgz'. The file transfer is not visible to the user as the worm hides the transfer status information.
The worm enumerates all applications on the computer that were used during the last month. Leap.A replaces the main executable of those applications with itself and saves the original file to a resource fork with the same filename. When the application is opened the worm activates first, then it runs the original application from the resource fork.
Even if this device was in some way better than the current iSight + display scheme, it would be WAY to expensive to be of any practical use to Apple.

Agreed.
Who modded this as offtopic? It should be modded informative IMO.
Ya, all the thief has to do is take out the battery without jostling the computer in the process of doing so.
Does that mean Google has been using ticker tape all this time?
whoops! I meant to reply to CRCulver's comment... sorry.
Also be sure to check out their hilarious CryptoKids(TM) site.
The English term is carcinogens, not cancerogenes.
parent should be +5 Informative IMO
uhhh... don't you mean Nyquist?
Ack! caenorhabditas beat me to it! Damn my slow typing!
just thought I'd pass that along...
The article is an interesting read, and it's definitely the type of article I wish Slashdot linked to more often. Dupe or not, thanks.
Sound Check is not DSP. Your iPod simply adjusts the gain on a per-track basis (not in realtime) based on metadata.
The CPU is going to keep cycling, whether you're playing music or not. Am I missing something here?
it never gets old :)
IMO, it is perfectly reasonable to demand the full source code for a critical system, such as a jet, where bugs could possibly kill people.

No, Leap.A does not "[replicate] itself into other executable code or documents". According to http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/leap_a.shtml,
The difference is that Firewire supports ISOCHRONOUS data transfers.
