Miner listed several reasons for this state of affairs, including bad UIs and small screens...

    How about the fact that cameras are added to phones as an afterthought, and they'll always suck because they cannot have useful lenses.

    I don't like the idea of creationism being taught in a science class, but I wouldn't mind them both (and other compelling theories) being presented in an "Origins and Development of Life" class.

    Creationism belongs in a Studies in the Techniques of Using Fiction for Coercive Purposes curriculum.

    This show of force by the morality police is actually going to help the pornographers make more money. How? Virtually all of the pornographic images posted to the .binaries groups were stolen from pay-to-view pornography sites, thus devaluing the images. Some of those who have had their 'free' source cut off will spend what it takes to continue their viewing habits.

    Prohibition didn't work then, and it still doesn't work.

    Sure there's the benefit of not having a pilot in the danger zone, but that's secondary. The primary function isn't to save lives, it's to do the three things above.

    All of which save lives.

    Apparently it is possible to subscribe to a "flawed mental shortcut for understanding the world," yet still be a scientist.

    If that means he's using an IMAP interface to gmail and Mail.app's damn "I'm not actually going to save your mail, I'm just going to cache what you've recently read" behavior is tripping him up, then I gotta say I have some sympathy with him.
    Isn't that the whole point of IMAP; not relying on keeping everything local? Over the course of a day, I check my mail on three different computers. IMAP is the only reason I can do this and have every email (I keep) available on every computer. Why would Mail.app save my mail locally that's already on IMAP servers?

    Yes, I can and do occasionally download and archive my IMAP mailboxes, but that's for safe storage reasons and has nothing to do with useability.
