This reminds me of an article posted not more than a few months ago. Things are no different now than they have ever been. Even back in video games' infancy, the general public lost interest in video games as they grew up. Some stayed, sure, but the vast majority of people veer from video games at varying speeds. This is nothing new, and it means little. Like I stated last time, talk to the people who WERE, say 16, and then talking to the people ARE 16, and see how THEIR interests compare.

The one big, important thing to note here is that Microsoft is primarily a software developer and Sony is primarily a hardware developer. Microsoft has so far only eaten up software companies, so why would they want to start going after hardware companies? Microsoft's success in past has been largely, if not solely, due to the fact that it costs near nothing to manufacture software, so it's practically all profit.

They way I hear it, the 360 actually didn't do very well because...it didn't do very well. The ONLY actual shortages were in big cities. My hometown always had plenty of units in stock, and MS sold 800,000 of a possible 4 million units thus far. If you've been keeping up, a lot of a companies, including EA and Activision, have recently had large layoffs. MS wants to tell you it's because of a slow gaming season, but if you check things out more closely, you'll noticed that the divisions were next-gen divisions...in particular, 360 development. The companies realized the 360 wasn't doing so hot, so they pulled funding and placed the money in more reliable venues.

The way I heard it, PS3 is actually in some ways easier to develop for than the 360. It is only the initial reaction to the cell processor that made everyone flip out. For example, the PS3's gpu uses openGL, so most of the graphics functions are very comfortable to developers.

How could the kid possibly think he'd come out alright? I mean, even in the game jumping from heights can kill you, and if it doesn't kill you it hurts you quite nicely. Therefore any kid attempting a re enactment must be trying to hurt himself, because that's the only thing that ever results from a jump in WoW. If you try to disregard this fact, then you must also disregard any connection it may have to WoW.

I think that's actually a pretty strong case for Blizzard. The kid obviously had a mental problem if he could see the jumping but not the hurting.

You find it highly unlikely because Square has traditionally held a track record of releasing Final Fantasties about every year? Think about it:

1999 - Final Fantasy VIII
2000 - Final Fantasy IX
2001 - Final Fantasy X
2002 - Final Fantasy XI
2003 - Final Fantasy X-2

This was their only skip since Final Fantasy VII. Now tell me again why I should believe they can't crank out another one a year after XII, let alone two.

Halo 3 was noted as an American console buyer. In particular, the Japanese really don't care for FPSes, so the release of Halo is hardly going to sway them. Instead, I find it likely that Squaresoft will unveil Final Fantasy XIII around the time of the PS3 release, which will capture pretty much all of Japan and a growing market of the US and the rest of the world.

Though I love Nintendo to death, I can't help but be wary of their move. Sure, the console will support traditional games, but the GameCube supports online games and look where that lead it.

In the end, it seems quite clear: Halo fans will buy a 360, Japan and FF fans (and there are a LOT of those) will buy a PS3, and devote Nintendo fans (and maybe some newcomers) will buy the Revolution. It's like clockwork, people.

HOWEVER, combined, there were enough for me to seriously consider a purchase. But now that a good deal of the games I liked on the XBox aren't supported on 360, that brings the total value down, and thus back to the point where it doesn't warrant a purchase.
