    The USA spends more taxpayers $$$ (as % of GDP) on it's crappy only-for-the-old-and-poor system than Canada or Australia, both of which have universal health care systems which provide better care (on a wide range of objective measures) than the USA.

    That remind me why I stopped being an employee, and became a contractor.

    The bad thing about being a contractor is I only get paid for the time I work (no sick leave, public holidays, annual leave etc)

    The good thing about being a contractor is I get paid for _every_ hour I work.

    Strangely enough, once I was working on a strictly per-hour basis, the boss found far fewer 'emergencies' that required me to work all weekend.

    4. Politician calls an official enquiry, staffed by his cronies, which blames the engineer.

    And you sound like some of the smokers I knew back in the 1980's.

    No matter how much scientific evidence piled up to show the harmfull effects of smoking, they kept on bleating...

    "but you can't prove all those cancers were caused by smoking, those people might have got cancer even if they didn't smoke"

    There's none so blind as those that will not see.

    Yes, I'm aware of the difference between 'climate' and 'exceptional events'.

    I'm also aware that there's been an awful lot of 'exceptional events' lately, both in oz and elsewhere - you may have noticed the loss of one of Americas major cities not too long ago.

    The disruption of usual climate, and an increase in 'exceptional events' is exactly what the climate experts have been predicting due to greenhouse warming.

    To clarify:

    The record December night I mentioned was here in Melbourne, about 38 degrees South, a similar latitude to San Francisco which is about 38 N.

    The snow was in the nearby 'mountains', which aren't very high, there was snow down to about the 1000 metre mark.

    There was also snow in Hobart Tasmania, about 43 South, roughly equivalent to Boston.

    We're in the middle of what meteorologists described as a "once in 1,000 years drought", had our hottest December night on record (minimum 27C/81F) and a 4 days later it snowed on xmas day.

    Climate change?

    That's just a myth put about by people who believe what they see when they look out their window!

    Ever hear of the law of Conservation of Mass?

    Put in simple terms, it says that the amount of Carbon in the can is fixed at the time the can is sealed.
    Heating it, cooling it, or giving it a really good shake makes no difference.

    I've heard the following works fairly well, but haven't tried it m'self.

    Put 2 email addresses on your web site, the real one, and a 'decoy' one which is hidden from normal users (eg white-on-white text right at the bottom of the screen).

    Any email that arrives at the 'decoy' address is parsed, and the sender added to a blacklist.

    Yes, they could have got better times avoiding the USB adapter, but as they sad in the review, they weren't after 'ideal conditions' figures (manufacturers already provide these), they wanted to measure performance for a 'typical user'.
