I can think of quite a few things we could cut:

    • TSA Scanners/Screeners
    • Corn based Bio-Fuel
    • PSA's

And we could also start being more effecient:

    • Make all federal buildings green (Solar, wind, etc. The added benefit, it would make the cost cheaper for all of us)
    • All government vehicles green (Hybrids)
    • Make companies accountable for any federal money. AT&T springs to mind here. Also, wasn't there an /. article a few weeks ago about some security guys scammed the gov out of $20-$40 million? We need to stop this kind of crap.
    • Start privatizing various federal agencies.

    New revenue:

    • Legalize, license and Tax marijuana (Added benefit, less money spent on fighting the loosing battle on drugs, plus less people in over-crowded prisons)

I'm sure I could think of more, but it's not like taxes and cutting funding are the only solution.

Judging by all of your past comments on /. it appears that you have NOT been a supporter of Apple products anyway. With that in mind, I'm not sure your "personal opinion" really has much weight. It seems to me that perhaps you are a programmer and/or perhaps a person that enjoys hacking the devices. There's nothing wrong with that, but unfortunately you don't fall within Apples' target market. I'm not sure the exact numbers, but I would guess that it's a fairly high number (maybe 70%) of people out there don't care that Apple is adding a layer of control to their products. It provides for a simple and easy to use user experience, plus gives the company the ability to make money by providing an eco-system to support their products.

There's a lot more grandma's, teens and non-technical people out there that like to spend money on things and not have to worry about if it will run Linux or not.

This is America, everyone owns a car or takes an airplane were they want to go. Rail is just now being thought of again because everyone is having such a crappy experience with the airlines. (both cost and TSA hassle)

The reason we don't have any great alternative to mass transit is primarily the airline, auto and oil industry. They've bought off enough politicians to ensure that other options never take off. A good example of this is the auto/oil industry in the 50's - 60's. A lot of cities used to have great/eco friendly electric light rail systems, but they were replaced by gas guzzling/smelly buses.
