i may be too old for this, or i could simply disable the games section - not an option, i am still interested in games, thus i am also not too old. but i would propose to put 360 related stories in a new category, ads. which i can disable.:)
i am sorry, but this is slashdot, heeeeeellllllooooo. this should be anti-ms, not adding to their marketing buzz.
i have to ask, does anyone still care?

I'm also running spamassassin, but i am absolutely not satisfied with the performance of it. how long does it take for your SA to scan one message? My mailserver is only a Athlon 600, but still this does not justify a few seconds hit per message.
other than the performance, i'm really happy with SA.
whoohoo! slashdoted, but not only the webserver, but i guess also their smtp mail server. go slashdot, go!!!

regarding that annoying default pluggin: delete it, or move it out ouf the system-wide plugin dir. i guess it can be disabled through the plugins config file also. but i haven't tried.

...and sending them over the wire. You can generate id's and use them for remote ssh access. see ssh-keygen(1), then when you type your password it is only used locally. nothing is send until your id is decrypted. and then using this is the authentication done.
You can only sue them if you can prove, that you have all patches installed. because it's your responsibility to keep the hosts security thight. they can sell you a secure distro if you happen to install a not secure package, or fail to upgrade. then it's your fault.
btw, can't we sue microsoft for all the damage done by the codered family?
just buying a distro is not enough. you need competent sec staff.
I guess this just increases the false sense of security. those who are security aware, are capable of securing their own distro. those who are not, are only spending loads of money. reasonable defaults are ok, but changing them, means probably opening a hole, or weakening the overall security. installing a secure distro is ok, but remember security is a *process*.
according to this bugtraq post, lcap is not that secure, you can easily reset capabilities if you have CAP_SYS_RAWIO enabled, which gives you access to/dev/kmem. if you disable it, you won't be able to run X and a bunch of other apps. but on servers this shouldn't be a problem...
IMHO you seem to mix up a few thinks. You shouldn't compare Exchange and qmail. since the latter is written with the "do-one-thing-but-do-it-right" paradigm in mind. it is only an MTA, that means it delivers mail to your mailbox. while exchange does a whole lot more. using the right tools (e.g. courier-imap, procmail, fetchmail, etc.) you can get most (if not all) functionality you get with exchange. and each of those tools uses the DOTBDIR paradigm. you just need to combine the appropriate tools, and voila...
IMAP? courier-imap.
security? you have to make a tradeoff since you refuse to use proper products, there's no tradeoff using qmail-courier-imap-ssl-mutt-whatever.
workgroup facilities? there are a lot (Evolution, many webbased) so that's a moot point. you get everything.
Resources? qmail is a lot more resource friendly than Exchange...
still there's a tradeoff using OS-tools, you need somebody put all this together. a smart guy...
maybe that's what they call hacker: someone who likes to fiddle with things to make other things happen. if something works the way it's intended, and not much work is left, i don't bother with that project anymore. i like to fight with my system, it makes me feel good to have a system, which needs lots of work to make it usable, when it's usable i don't care anymore.
maybe that explains my anti-mainstream argument a little bit better.
i'm always rebelling against most mainstream stuff, sorry. but it is us IMHO, who make the world move, help a project until it's good for anyone else, then help out another project that needs people. it's not that mainstream is bad, but it's rather about... well i don't know. this the way i feel. no bad intentions.

i genuinely welcome everyone who welcomes me. this is a triumph of communication. lets all together invid/te our vicinicity
Flash based popup/unders are very easily blocked by the very excellent flashblock extension.
Since they are the ones providing the pipes, they could really give a boost to the RFC 3514 a.k.a. Evil Bit for filtering out the unwanted packets ...
ty, i will try this.

Why is this different from the "rock 'n scroll" approach used in the itsy?
why don't you use hparm -X?? -d1 /dev/hd?
that'll enable ata??/dma features. and everything will be much faster...

that's not embarrasing, that's is very romantic (once in a lifetime). and this takes a lot of curage!
i hope the answer is yes.
filterproxy let's you exactly do that. check it out. it's written in perl, and configurable through a web interface. it has many nice other features: gzip content-transferencoding being one. definitly worth to check out.

there's nothing better now, than playing some infiltration. and then try it out in real life. trust me.
