  1. Verbal Contract on How To Vet Clever Ideas Without Giving Them Away? · · Score: 1

If you're just asking someone for basic feedback you can make a verbal contract by asking them a simple question like "This will have to stay between us, I hope that's okay?" if they agree to it then they've concented to a NDA, albeit not on paper, so burden of evidence would be harder. But it's less obtrusive than a big paper contract.

Well... the problem with plastics is that they arn't bio degradable, so they are just accumulating in the biosphere. They will however be weathered down into tiny particles over time, and animals will get them into their systems with yet unknown consequences (we know fumes of burned plastics are toxic but that doesn't really say anything about tiny particles in our bodies) Anyhow, that's yet another problem we will have to deal with to not rape, or pollute as it were, the earth.

And no of course we don't have all the information but we know that once in the planets history due to carbon emissions into the atmosphere from volcanoes, the planet overheated. And we know that burning fosilized fuels releases geologically sealed carbon back into the atmosphere once again which it hasn't been a part of for millions of years thus increasing the levels of CO2 beyond what the planets natural balance had previously been. There is also a general concensuss that the greenhouse effect is happening and that the changing chemical composition of the atmosphere leads to a warmer climate on the sruface of the planet.

If we have not enough information about the earth's atmosphere we certainly have less about mars', there's a number of things that could cause the ice caps on mars to melt, a change of axis for one.

  8. The Reason as I see it on MPAA and FBI Help To Train Swedish Police · · Score: 1

It's not a threat to our sovereignity to seek advice and skill from other countries police forces, or from interest groups who knows about piracy and how it is done (and are willing to help).
    Why are we doing this?
Well because the US has put some pressure on the last government, so slowly changes are being made. Why do we care what the US says?
We don't want to be the next Cuba (or Iraq before the invasion), our biggest export market is the US (ok it's only 10% but still).

So to please our economic overlords we train 6 police officers to deal with an illegal activity that 1 million swedes do, ie piracy. Is this going to put an end to piracy in sweden? Probably not.
Will it lessen the extent to which there is movie, music and software piracy?
Again probably not. Because the swidish police is still very inefficiant they have to do an godawfull amount of paperwork for every case, and as the laws are right now it's hard to collect evidence against users who are found sharing or downloading copyrighted files on p2p sites or programs, as the police can't get warrants to search computers, and it's illegal for them to hack our computers (regardless of how unprotected it is).
So they will probably try to close down torrent-sites and DC-hubs and find the "key players" in "piracing groups". That provide rips and cracks and what not to the masses.
I guess it's because the sueing tactic RIAA uses in the US is impossible in Sweden.

  9. Evolution of Final Fantasy? on The Fundamentals of Gaming · · Score: 3, Insightful

I'm just gonna complain a bit, but the Final Fantasy article doesn't delve into anything as deep as the evolution of Final Fantasy. That would have required them to atleast mention what changed over the course of the series. this is more a "what's final fantasy XII's heritige" sort of piece... and not really a good one at that.
It's this sort articles that usualy makes me stay clear of IGN.
The article isn't really clear as who it's aiming for, gamers who has played previous titles and knows what "the Sphere Grid system in Final Fantasy X" is or the gamer that is unfamiliar with the history of the series who needs to learn what a Chocobo - "a large, traditionally (but not necessarily) yellow, flightless, bipedal mode of transport" is.

An example, Me and my band is making an album and for one of our songs we bring a radio into the recording booth and just record one song directly from air and put it on our album without paying royalties to the creators of that song, that is theft. If you do the same thing with a file you've found on the internet.

Are you sure it isn't a math lesson, couse isn't 29+12=41 (which would have been more than the wii's amount and wii was supposed to be the winner, although it still had less than x360) and the number of sony's inhouse created games are 20 (or 18 if you're picky).

Besides I count to 49 games x360 games in the article (48 if we don't count xbox live arcade unplugged), ps3 had 35 (with 20 made by sony and sony online studios), wii had 38

So the sumary had alot of factual errors.

on a side note: I think they were right not including things like mahjong into the release titles. Nor the back cataloge of games playable on these systems, because what they wanted to count was games that are unique to these consoles, and you can play ps2 games on a ps2 which is notably cheeper to buy than a ps3.

How can you think it's insulting, he's saying "I want people to feel a need to own our product", sure even if he took it to a degree wherein the person would think about ways to earn more money so that they could fulfill this need. The Playstation concept AFAIK is to be the best gaming console on the market. And so will the PS3 be, (if we just disregard the innovation that is the Wiimote) it will probably be the best or chaired best in pretty much all aspects. Have you ever met someone who has had a poster of a Ferrari when they were young? Do you think that Ferrari is insulting that person because s/he will never have enough money to buy (let alone own) a Ferrari? No, they are making a product for a certain demographic, and most people who has Ferrari posters will never be a part of that demografic. If you own a business, and your product is rejected by the market fot being too expensive, then you either deal with the lost sales or change your pricing structure. Either you're clairvoyant, or you're just assuming that all this talk about ps3 being too expensive (on the net or with your friends) before you can buy one, is any kind of indicator of how it will turn out. If Sony (or rather their analyst) had shared your view they wouldn't have delayed the PS3 launch in Europe, they know that there is a HUGE demand for their "overpriced" product yes even at it's current price.
