  1. Truly this is sad... on Hans Reiser to Sell Company · · Score: 3, Insightful

As a company owner, this thing is so sad. But on the techinical aspect, ReiserFS has better numbers in i/o, read and write that ext3, but many, many times, the way Hans conducts himself, lead to more and more people running away from ReiserFS.

Novell have just switched from reiser to ex3 at opensuse 10.1 or 10.2, I can't remember well, and this was the last "mayor" distribution supporting it. Any way, his company was loosing value, even more, his company is more like a one man company that a group of people. I doubt Namesys has CMMI, or follows any structured development strategy, so, buying a company whos best product is the sole creation of his owner is a very, very bad move.

I hope he gets some money for his company.

Ajax and DOM, used with wddx is a good way to keep MVC model.

Soap can be used to extend the interface layer. Ajax calls to wddx objects are neat, and also php has <a href="http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.wddx.php">w ddx functions</a>, so having to communicate webpage with php very easy.

With javascript + dom control, you can process all the information you gather from ajax request to php.

I&#180;ve working with ajax + php + wddx all day, since 1.5 months. I used to keep a MVC using a post to a Controller then a redirect to the next viewer if success or redirect to previus viewer with error flag at session.

Now I&#180;m working with real mvc, the viewer only has the enough logic to display the info sent by wddx response. The controller is just an interface for set the values to call an object.

    Very nice.

IBM has a HUGE hardware POS, and they build IRES, IBM Retail Enterprise Solution on TOP of Novell`s NLSPOS

Also, Novell has support for the brand new OpenPower, Xseries and so on, also redhat, but the difference, is that, Redhat charges you by instance, and Novell charges you by hardware, and since IBM is preaching the "consolidate on big hardware using LPAR (hardware virtualization) on their machines, Novell offers a much more "from the book to the TCO financial benefits...

Redhat AES, the same, BUT, redhat charges you by installation, so, virtualization is more expensive with Redhat than SuSe.

Also, since IBMs OpenPower Machines, only runs on linux, they eat a chunk of market to aix (pseries), and even more, HPs Intanium and Opteron, run with linux, add this redhat/suse sales from Dell, and you will have a very and rich environment...
