Look at some of the Sharp phones available (9xxSH series)- zoom doesn't mean having a lens sticking out of the phone.

Oh really- like what? I can't find any with quality better than my cameraphone for that price. All the decent cameras cost in the neighborhood of $250+ new. I can get a 2MP cameraphone with autofocus for $25. The only catch is its dubious origin. I had an older cameraphone stolen from me and found it at the market I bought this one from. I know it's mine but can't conclusively prove it because when I bought it the IMEI printed on the back of the phone didn't match the IMEI shown by pressing *#06# (strange, but I think it had something to do with the unlocking procedure). Of course, everything was erased when it was taken from me as well. I probably technically have no right to this phone but then again, I live in China.

Ouch. At my school the photographer takes a photo with his camera, and then I hand him my cameraphone (2megapixel) and ask him to take a photo with it. Of course, in my school the photographer is an employee of the school and the photos are free (or covered in tuition, I don't know which- just that the photos are put online and you print them yourself).

Go for a Sharp then- pretty everything you're asking for (9xx series- 910SH has 5MP sensor with 3x optical zoom and autofocus, 904SH has image stabilization, 3.2MP sensor, 2x optical zoom and autofocus, the 903SH has the same without image stabilization, and the 902SH is trailing behind with all the features of the 903SH but with a 2MP sensor). They are pretty big, though.

I'd never trust shipping on eBay any other way than paying when the product actually gets to me. That's why I'm a fan of the Chinese eBay system.

    1. Look for auction. On the Chinese site, a seller's contact info is usually listed- either a telephone number or address.
    2. Go to the address in question or telephone the seller. This is to make sure that the seller is legit. Usually, if an address is listed, it's a store and I will buy directly from them. Only once it turned out that someone was running a mini-store out of his apartment, and the guard at the apartment complex asked if I was getting accessories for my phone when I asked him about that apartment.
    3. Make the purchase. It's nice to be able to actually meet the person selling the item- I can inspect it before purchase to make sure that everything's OK. I don't have an eBay account, and I'm afraid of using Paypal. Of course, for those sellers that don't use Paypal, wire transfer is the standard method of payment, and I'm naturally scared of doing that.
I need to be able to do an inspection of an item that I'm buying before I purchase it. If a store won't do that, then I just go to the local "flea market" for stuff. However, a lot of the stuff is stolen. I went through my local cellphone market- found a phone that I dropped on a taxi some months ago. I couldn't do anything about it because there was no way to officially tell that it was mine (the red Vodafone logo came off, same scratches, same orange outer casing that I imported) because the IMEI on the box doesn't match the IMEI under the battery of the phone when I bought it. And the IMEI under the battery didn't match the IMEI that was displayed by pressing *#06# which was strange when I bought it but I didn't give it a second thought because I didn't care. I sometimes buy some phones just for fun ($7 apiece for some Japanese phones) to see what some people's personal lives are like. One CDMA phone without the ESN on the back (just a little sticker with the production date on it) had some porn on it- I will never look at Japanese people the same way again.

Sony includes a restore partition. I learned this when I checked their support pages and found out why the warranty is void by installing Windows in English (I got a Japanese import)- apparently it interferes with the restore partition when install occurs so that when recovery is needed I need to buy discs (for that matter, I needed to register my computer in order to get a Customer ID which I could then use to order recovery discs- they wouldn't let me order otherwise).

B. Find an inventive way around the block. It's amazing how few teachers pay attention when I plug my cellphone into a lab computer- it's a simple matter of finding and installing drivers for dial-up, and practically all the student body knows the administrator password to the computers. I picked it up on an internship with the school's IT department; who knows how the other students found out. C. Children of the teachers could complain to the administration; because of the location of this school, teachers have residences above the classrooms and internet is fed from the same fiber line that supplies the rest of the school with internet. This won't happen at my school because the administration is specifically looking to combat filtering- what is called the Great Firewall of China (else the students won't get their Wikipedia and other resources to do their work properly- books tend to have trouble getting here if they contain controversial subject matter so online is the only choice when researching said subject matter).
