I'm pretty sure the red background is for stories from teh future!1!, but for some reason they seem to occasionally still appear red right after they become available to non-subscribers.
A great story, varied and challenging gameplay, and enough side quests to keep you busy for a very long time. After getting my hands on a copy of it, I didn't do much else, except for the occasional break for eating (which the loading screen helpfully reminds you to do).
It has a few flaws (slightly larger text size would be nice) but overall it's much better than sorting through each section trying to find new stories.

These are all very interesting ideas, but I think the real question is whether you'd even be able to hear it over the sound of the server exploding.
