Say what you want about profit and money, but when marketing conflicts the ideals of free software (freedom), I choose not to use RedHat anymore.
There are lots of other Linux distributors who still supports the ideals of free software and open source. They'll get my business.
Because YOU'VE decided that Taiwan is it's own country, and not a part of China?
Reminds me of a show I once liked
Lois: Did you get the permit from the city.
Peter: No we're not part of the city. In fact we're not even part of the country.
Lois: What are you talking about.
Peter: Thanks to a technicality we have the right to secede from the United States and that makes us our own country. from this point on we shall be known as Petoria. I was going to call it Peterland but that gay club by the airport already took it.
Lois: We are a clean industrious people. Mostly white. My son Chris is in charge of our space program. We expect to get to the moon very soon.
Chris: (in tree) Almost there. (falls) they should really use monkeys for this.
Lois: And little Stewie here is our President of poopies.
Stewie: Oh har har.
Trisha: Where is the president now.
Lois: Oh he's on a goodwill mission to America.
"As a global company Red Hat must be sensitive to political differences that impact the markets it serves. One of those markets is Mainland China, where the inclusion of the Taiwanese flag would have prevented the introduction of Red Hat Linux 8.0."
Yay! More supression of free speech, this time from our favorite crippleware!
Apply thisto your flawed logic:
"The leaf-shaped island, one of the most densely populated places on earth with 21 million people, is only about 245 miles long and 90 miles wide. It is dwarfed by mainland China, with a population of 1.2 billion."
Hmm $40 * potentially 1.2 billion
OR
$40 * potentially 21 million
Red Hat could sell v8.0 in China for 25 cents, to 25% of the population, and STILL make more than retail to 100% of Taiwan.
What company do you work for, and what symbol is it traded under? Because the REST of us know that something as simple as a flag could be re-added by one of the 21 million Taiwaneese, if they so desire.
Beating on nightlys gives immediate feedback on the effects of changes made that day - catch serious bugs early.
You're right, I never even considered that. I think I'm starting to blur the lines between Alpha/Beta/Release, and I know I'm starting to ignore version numbers. (eg. Mozilla 1.0 ~= Netscape 7.0)
Although still in heavy development, I have found Phoenix quite useable and stable even in the early 0.2 release and I continue to download the nightly release every day.'"
Umm why download nightly builds of a usable, stable application?
If it's usable and stable, why not wait for the next point release?
They were cheaper than UUNET on a burstable T1, and I haven't had any issues today - related to UUNET. No that still sounds bad. They've been good, I don't see what the poster see's:)
They've been rated #1 or #2 the past few years on Boardwatch (Savvis could own it for all I know), based on latency and ping time, IIRC.
They do multiple peering, and supposedly are dynamic, so with UUNET down, supposedly they're rerouting my traffic across another provider to reach those spots..
Of course, if a site is actually ON UUNET, there might no be any other way to get there.. get it?:P
I wish they'd throw billions of dollars into my city and redo all the roads for us too.
You need weasly city planners.
For example. The federal govt WILL help pay for Interstate and intrastate highways. Around here, there's a lot of renaming of roads so the feds help rebuild/repave them. They do have to be used as 'Hwy 200' for a certain period of time before they can become eligable, but it's a way to get more money to widen/improve an older road.
Either that, or the people who setup the road system did a really poor job. Considering I sometimes have to wait 25min for a train by my house, on a 4 lane intrastate hwy, I wouldn't entirely rule out past incompetance.
With all the printer drivers included in Lindows 2.0 I was able to set up my trusty old H-P LaserJet 6mx within seconds. There's also new compatibility with laptops, power-saving software, etc., that I've yet to test. As for the Microtel hardware, everything works as advertised except for the CD-ROM drive, which I haven't been able to get sound from yet.
I'd bet $20 that the Microtel PC doesn't have one of those pass-thru wires from the CDROM to the sound card.
But does MSNBC's target audience know that? Nope. It's entirely possible people will think that Linux doesn't support playing audio CD's.
Just keep those pesky imperial units away from the project and you should be set. The probe could continue to send back data to the orbiter as it goes down, but it's probably too much to ask for a soft landing.
Even with a hard landing, make sure it has a self-destruct so the Rebels can't examine it.
Of course, for most people, we're close to that point where chip-speed stops mattering... (maybe 1-2 more cycles of Moore's Law ought to do it.) How many people think about the speed of their computer while surfing, emailing, word-processing, or any such thing? (I know, I know, it's a cliche, but cliches are cliches because they're _true_.)
I can't agree more. I've been overclocking my PC since I got my 486-33 10 years ago. Anything I could do to squeeze more horsepower out of it to play the newest games.
I upgraded memory
I learned that 256k cache is worth it, and 512k didn't help as much..
I learned how to use mem/d to put TSR's in certain places in memory so I had plenty of conventional free. (7th guest in 4MB - on a SCSI CD - baby!)
I did the basic 'up the bus speed'
Ran my VLB video at 50mhz:)
Optimized bios Ram speeds..
I kept all that up until a couple years ago..Overclocking and optimizing has mostly'deteriorated' into CPU upgrades, revving up the MHZ on the MB. I now find I don't need that as much, because the blockage is in the Internet connection, not my CPU. The games run fine, but lag is (always) intermittant. Playing Descent on a 486 over a 28.8 with Kali WASN'T just the line speed, but also your PC speed. I have a PIII 800 now, and games run just fine. Now it's the line speed.
I think this finally set in with me a couple weeks ago when I broke down and bought my first notebook (and new PC since the 486:). I was concentrating on screen size, memory, and HD. After I purchased the Notebook, I was surprised to discover it was a 1500 Celeron. I only checked because I couldn't remember if I got an AMD or Intel, and I was thinking it was around 1200.
So many years of tweaking, and now I can't remember what CPU BRAND I even bought.
On a side note, While Mandrake 9.0 RC2 installed PERFECTLY (not sure about Winmodem, don't need it) on this Toshiba 1405S171 (from Circuit City), I have one annoying issue. If I type 'rick' fast - at my normal typing speed. It comes out rriicckk. The same thing happens on my home system mdr8.0-8.2. I thought I just had a shitty Mb;)
I can't think of a good search term for that kind of an issue, so I havn't found a solution, any ideas?
This is obvious microsoft bullshit, as open-source platforms are more reliable, and more scalable than anything from microsoft.
Is that really true though? I mean, does MySQL support cluserting, fail-over, load-balancing, etc?
What MS product are you comparing to MySQL? I'm looking to get out of MS Foxpro, and everytime I look at MySQL, I see rays of light coming from it.;)

But what defines a hero? Like someone else said, Wonder Woman is unique in OUR cities, but not on that island of her's. Same goes for Superman. Wasn't Supergirl 'on vacation' when the planet blew?
Everone will start as equals (that doesn't necessarily mean equal to you and me - see my other post
Just like any other MMORPG, there will be a slew of 'normals' and then a small number of higher-ups. Even on UO, 'normal' is much more advanced than a 'regular person'. I sure as hell can't make myself invisible;)

Isn't a key part of the whole comic book superhero thing the rarity of superheroes, trying to save the normal population from Evil with their unique powers? Who are you going to save from Evil, your fellow superheroes? A superhero setting has to be one of the worst settings imaginable for a massively multiplayer game.
I don't agree. X-Men is a team for a reason. So are all the other teams: X-Force, Excalibur, Fantastic Four.
You must be thinking of DC. DC is more 'one loner vs them all'. In Marvel, the good guys get their asses kicked all the time, and regularly get help from other characters.
Look at Spiderman.. He gets help from/helps other 'New York' superheroes all the time. Having 50 in a large city such as NY still makes it a rarity.
Everybody knows your mutant powers don't surface until you reach puberty.
If you join NOW, you can practice throwing fireballs in 2018...
For those non-mutant wanna-be heros, there will be radioactive spiders, and gamma-ray explosions randomly througout the game... If you're lucky, you can take 99% damage, and have your gamma-irradiated friend heal you, greatly increasing your strength and agility (and breast size) permanantly (rather than just when you get pissed).
So you're saying the universe is God? As in, the universe itself makes all decisions about life, death, toast dropping butter side down or butter side up?
Not that I believe, but it's the only logical conclusion.
For God to be omnipotent, he would have to be everything/everywhere.
The chair you're sitting on (God got a boner!:P), the desk, the windows.
We all know the bible is the 'difinitive work' of god, written by humans.. (and the church isn't exactly full of 'Holy' men..) Who's to say god and 'Nature' are different beings, or even have a conciousness?
"god's will" is about equivalent to 'it just happens' or 'that's the way the world works'. There's only the assumption of a conciousness behind the outcome.
At least now you know that 1 'day' = 2 million 'years'.;)
Ahhh yes. The instant gratification option. Also the "I have a life, unlike you loosers" excuse. Its much the same line you hear from those who run various game cheats.
You must have not really played the game. If you start a new character, you spend a hell of a lot of time building them up just to walk outside of town without getting PK'd.
It seems to me, if I was waiting with a bucket of cold water outside your door every morning, you might get a little pissed off after getting drenched time after time.
Really, all OSI has done is reduce the load on their servers, by allowing some people to avoid macroing for weeks on end. (Believe me, it took me at least two just to get a decent hiding level.)
In any case, when your WIFE (if you have one) is saying you're getting bitchy after playing UO, you might want to think about that REAL LIFE you have.
With DRM looming over everyone's heads, based on your professional experience, does it REALLY help the industry, or just increase the cost of the product? Personally, I think if DRM costs the producer x, they'll charge oldprice + (x*2) for it -thereby 'recovering' the cost of piracy.
What affect do you think software 'piracy' had/has on the hardware industry? Does it promote adoption of the latest and greatest hardware in exchange for 'free' software? (i.e. Because Joey didn't buy MS FS 2002 and WinXP, he'll buy the new AMD/ATI combo MB..)
Anyone remember what year Datsun changed to Nissan "because we liked the car so much, we named the company after it"?
Not unlike the U.S Virgin Islands...

Therefore, Red Hat removed option X.
If I don't recognize that Country Y exists, why should software in my country have a flag for a country that doesn't exist?
Don't you remember the civil war? Sounds like you think the US should just have split in two, and been done with it.
Up the price to $3 ;)
