You think that the art/game design for zelda took more R&D to create than for Splinter Cell?
Vice City stands on its own as a completely new game.
And here's the biggest thrill of them all, you are permitted to wait for the prices to drop, which they will.
No one is forcing you to buy them when they first come out at $50. Stop being cheap, if you want it first you'll have to pay for it. If you can wait you'll be able to pick it up at $20-30 relatively soon.
Creativity is far from dead, it's simply people whinning.
oooh there aren't any new games all there are, are fps, rts, mmorpgs, tactical games, etc. Where's the innovation?!
Games are supposed to be fun, if you don't enjoy the games out there now because they are part of a genre you're no better than someone who dislikes games because they don't have the best graphics.
And you know what? They alllll fall under one genre of entertainment, games.
I mean where's the creativity?! When's someone going to have the guts to create a new form of entertainment!? It's all the corporations fault, there hasn't been anything original since hopscotch!
See I think there a lot of people(me) who don't want a rich social and command structure.
We want it to end in a few hours. And start all over. People will get friends together and play but there will be nutso's running around doing their own thing. Just like BF1942 is now, just on a much larger scale.
Clans for FPS are quite social and practice on their own etc. This is not an RPG not all of us want all that extra stuff.
I'd like to play with 100's of people, but I really don't care about levels, etc any more.
Anyone up for a BF1942 map with 500 players? Yes there are problems with such a wide generalization, but hey, not all of us online players are exactly RPGers.
Agreed, unless they come up with a way to increase productivity, which this doesn't seem todo, why are they wasting time on it?
Let's see, 3d graphics of CD's or a simple text field where I type in 'Bandname' and hit enter.
Add to that the fact that 3d seems best navigated with a mouse and suddenly you realize that you're moving away from a keyboard interface which works better than a pointing device.
Keep your damn probes to yourselves! We all know it's those nasty Venusians who enjoy probing everything they can find.
It got so bad we turned mars into a desert because we realized they prefer wet worlds. (Probably something to do with the lubing of the probes or something equally disgusting)
As for your second point. Computer nerds are nice usually if your computer is having problems I really don't think you'll find many saying, ok that'll be $200 + parts. I guess we should be a bit meaner.
Of course I usually ask for a case of nice beer for payment if I like the person.;)
It's keeping up a culture of ignorance among computer users.
It's really called, not everyone has the time/desire to learn how to troubleshoot.
Can every car driver troubleshoot a problem with their car? Not even close. A small percentage will know what the problem is and fix it, another small percentage will have an idea of what the problem is and tell the mechanic, and the rest drop it off and say 'It's broken, please fix'
That's how it is with computers. I'm sure any mechanic who loves cars would wish people learned more and took better care of their cars. That's how I see a lot of linux people act.
But the fact is most people aren't going to even consider learning more. That's the beauty of linux. If they at first get Lindows, anyone who is part of the, group of users with a wealth of knowledge that leaves any Joe Average in the dust. will eventually seek out Gentoo, Slack, etc and learn more.
Anyway my point is don't worry about it. There are a lot better reasons for the masses to run linux over Windows other than it being technically better. Something they probably will never really know anyway.
I didn't know that advocating a non-litigous solution
That is not what you are suggesting. You are suggesting that HardOCP give in to the litigation threatened by Infinium.
A non-litiguous solution would have been, Infinium's CEO (Roberts) sends a letter to HardOCP(Kyle) saying, "You hurt my feelings with your article please take it down" and Kyle could have said yes or no, that is a non-litigious solution.
If you read the article and Infinium's response, the article did not contain false information, merely information that isn't very flattering for Infinium's CEO.
What HardOCP are doing is simply bringing this to a head weeks or months before it gets bounced back and forth between the two companies.
It's like a bandaid, rip it off quickly rather than picking at it.
That doesn't involve me dealing with crippling arthritis/carpel tunnel in the coming years.
I love what I do with computers, but the amount of time it involves and the idea of not being able to play catch with my kids because my hands hurt too much has me wondering if I'll really do this for years and years.
Oh thank god there are others out there that are starting to understand and remember what it really should mean to be Republican. Or at least what it used to mean until the Bush administration.
Only wish more republicans were true members of the Republican party and not just voting down the row because that's what they 'should do' as good little republicans.
You're right they pick and chose what science they want to use. So saying 'science is wrong' was bad on my part.
But my thing is how can they rely on any scientific fact? If their argument is about faith, why are they trying to convince others using outside data, not from the sources they claim are absolutely the last Word.
I think I just don't understand how you argue faith. You come to believe or you don't. There is no convincing.
Oh lord, cry me a river.

Cnn.com takes it hook line and sinker!
Does anyone else picture the poor lil programmers/engineers desperately trying to keep this instruction set working?
::)
You know there's probably just one of each locked way down in the basement working on this, afraid of the sunlight.
Creativity is far from dead, it's simply people whinning.

Area Man
you could hardly assure her yes
Parent is implying a girl would be asking about a career in computers or is otherwise interested in computers.
We all know this is false or it is the sign of the End Times!!
Run Away!!!!

Yeah, but I'm thinking about something even simpler. Something that has 100s of people but actually ends perhaps? Something with rounds of games.
::)
Planetside is good I guess, but it's neverending, no one ever wins.
I guess I basically want BF or UT with 100's of players instead of 32/64
A NON-RPG MMOG?
I'd like to play with 100's of people, but I really don't care about levels, etc any more.

it should be noted that by and large IT professionals earn more money then most other jobs
Is that really true any more? I mean, last I heard plumbers could do quite well for themselves and had much better job security.
I thought IT salaries came back down to earth after the DotCom bust.
Of course my dream job is CEO. Who else wants in?

You can make a cheap risk every week if you want with a small small chance of it being the best investment in your life.
It's called the lotto, and I think the odds of winning are better than the odds of Infinium making you a profit.
Getting some 'Killer Games'
How long has HL2 and Doom3 been in development? 5 years each?
So how long would it take an OSS project to make a killer game like that? 10 years.
It's not going to happen for free.
I can't believe you have two +5 Funny comments on the same story.
::) Or have you just perfected the jokes that /. finds funny?
You trying to become a karma god?
Hehe, boggle.
;)

I think the big hoodoo is that these are Official drivers. The previous iterations weren't supported.
Don't buy the car, it doesn't sell you won't see others like it.
He claims to be a Phantom beta tester.
Here ya go
